Chapter Five: Transactions

Witchcraft potions.

At first, Li Aili thought that "witch potions" were a means for the Vatican and the Potions Association to eliminate dissidents.

But in this world where angels and demons both truly exist, "witch potions" were brought to humanity by the devil. Humans have all sorts of desires and needs, and there's nothing a bottle of "witch potion" can't solve.

After drinking the "witch potion," a person's desires are satisfied and their demands are fulfilled.

The devil obtained human souls.

No one knows what the devil did to those souls, but they have indeed vanished forever. On this magical continent where a true god exists, this is an incredibly terrifying thing.

Therefore, no matter where they are, those who sell "witchcraft" must die.

Li Aili only had one bottle of [Healing Potion], and couldn't bring herself to say, "I can drink it to prove it's not witchcraft."

She took a deep breath. "Want to bet?"

Li Aili stared directly into the Duke's azure eyes.

“Your order has a knight named Edward Martin. I met his wife yesterday, and she is willing to try my potion.”

"If the [Healing Potion] saves Knight Edward Martin, but his wife loses her soul, then I am willing to pay with my life."

“But, if my [healing potion] does not take anyone’s soul, then, Your Grace, let’s make a deal.”

“So,” Ellie took a step closer to Arthur Cold Emerald, “shall we make a bet, Duke?”

The Duke stared at Li Ai Li for a few seconds, then called out in a deep voice, "Conrad."

A butler with gray hair, dressed in a black tailcoat, walked in and said respectfully, "Master."

"Prepare the carriage; we're going to Earl Martin's mansion."

...

As Li Aili sat in the Duke's carriage, half of the weight was lifted from her heart.

But she didn't see Edward Martin's current condition, nor was she sure if the moderate-strength "healing potion" could cure his injuries.

In addition, she was sitting in the same carriage as a man with a powerful aura.

Although His Excellency the Duke's carriage was extremely luxurious, it would not be an exaggeration to say that it was inlaid with gold and jade.

When Li Aili lowered her head and counted the magic gems embedded in the carriage to the 61st time, the carriage finally stopped in front of the Earl's Mansion in the Upper District of the Central City.

I thought that once I saw Edward Martin and he forced the drug down my throat, the matter would be settled.

To everyone's surprise, after being led inside by the Earl's butler, they discovered that Edward Martin's bedside was practically "overcrowded with people."

There were seven or eight tall knights, fully armed and clad in armor, surrounding them.

Hearing the door open, the knights all turned around to look.

Upon seeing that the person who entered was the Duchess, each of them suppressed a burning rage in their eyes.

Immediately afterwards, Arthur Cold Jade entered, and the knights all tapped the 'brand' on the heart area of their armor, saying, "Your Highness."

Li Aili kept giving the Duke meaningful glances.

Balk, who was standing guard by Edward Martin's bedside, asked expectantly, "Your Highness, have 'those people' in the dark dungeon given their word?"

Arthur Cold Jade glanced at Edward Martin, who was lying down.

His condition was extremely bad; his breathing was so weak that it was almost imperceptible unless you looked closely.

The once valiant knight was now wrapped in bandages, his burn wounds almost entirely festering. The bandages were soaked with pus and blood; it was hard to believe that someone so badly injured was still alive.

“No. But there is a way that might save him,” said Arthur Cold Jade.

Balk seemed to have thought of something, and his eyes immediately fixed on Li Aili.

For once, Balk's expressionless face darkened. "Excuse my bluntness, Your Highness."

“Miss Marquis Li Aili seduced Edward’s wife. If we hadn’t arrived in time today, who knows what would have happened.”

Li Ai-Li was still wondering why Edward Martin's condition had suddenly worsened, yet his wife remained indifferent and hadn't come to see her. Upon hearing this, she immediately solved the case.

So the person was being held captive by these knights.

Arthur Cold Jade did not speak.

Behind Balk, a brown-haired knight could not hide his indignation. "Your Highness! That's witchcraft! If Edward wakes up and finds out that Joanna offered her soul to the devil to save her, he'd rather it was he who died!"

Li Aili couldn't hold back any longer and blurted out, "This is not a witchcraft potion!"

The knights all looked at her with cold, menacing eyes.

Li Aili could only say, "I have a bet with Your Highness. If this is witchcraft, I will pay with my life!"

The knights were more stubborn than she had imagined. Several of them stood firmly in front of Edward's bed, but a few others wavered.

Seeing the person on the bed slowly losing their life, Li Aili was frantic with worry. "Duke! If this drags on any longer, even a moderate-strength [Healing Potion] might not be enough to save them!"

The atmosphere inside was tense. The ever-silent Duke of Cold Emerald looked up at the anxious Li Aili and ordered, "Balk, move aside."

Balk looked at the Cold Emerald Duke in disbelief.

Arthur Cold Jade said, enunciating each word clearly, "If she fed Edward Martin a witchcraft potion, I will personally cut off her head."

Balk's eyes reddened, but the two Grand Knights beside him exchanged a glance, grabbed him from the left and right, and made way for Li Aili.

Li Aili only realized her hands were trembling slightly when she took out the [Healing Potion].

Upon seeing the blood-red alchemical potion, Balk instantly changed his mind.

"This is witchcraft!"

Even the two Silver-ranked Grand Knights were unable to subdue Balk.
