Chapter Forty-Nine: No One Is Allowed to Leave

Li Aili: "..."

Just now, was Duke Cold Jade instructing her on how to kill a cardinal?

"Have you finished resting, my dear?" the Duke asked casually.

"We'd better get back to the ball sooner rather than later," he said absentmindedly.

So the two left the lounge and returned to the increasingly lively dance party.

The Duke of Pomegranate is dancing with a noblewoman.

Above the woman's head: [So you decided to cut ties with me completely because of that little bitch?!]

Li Aili: "..."

"May I have this dance, madam?" a handsome nobleman asked politely.

They interrupted Li Aili's gossip about the Duke of Nanjun.

A pink bubble appeared above his head: 【Hi~ Little beauty】

Then, before Li Aili could answer, his face turned pale, and he looked in horror at the cold, emerald-like Duke who was staring at him.

The duke stared at him like a lion staring at a hyena that had invaded its territory. "Where is your territory?"

The man's face visibly turned from white to green.

The pink bubble above my head burst.

"Sorry! I'll never do it again!" After saying that, the man turned and ran away.

Goodbye, my beauty!

Li Aili: "..."

The man's rejection of the Duke did not deter the enthusiasm of the female nobles.

They swarmed toward the Duke like bees drawn to honey.

The blushing young girl stepped forward gracefully. "Your Grace, Duke, would you have the honor of dancing with me?"

Cold Jade, growing impatient with the repeated invitations to dance, replied, "No interest."

The girl's rosy smile turned pale, and she glared at Li Aili resentfully before leaving.

To minimize this unanimous "disturbance," the Duke simply took Li Aili's hand and asked, "Shall we dance?"

Li Aili wasn't interested. "No, I'd rather watch the drama unfold."

Standing here and looking at the bubbles above everyone's heads, isn't that better than going down on stage and getting glared at while dancing with you?

The chaotic relationships between men and women among the upper class are so gossipy, it's enough to make you sick of it!

The Duke said, "A chest of gold coins."

Li Aili's green eyes widened in surprise. "What?! I'm that kind of..."

"A dance, a box of gold coins."

Li Aili smiled slightly, "That's the kind of person I am! Let's go!"

She dragged the Duke onto the dance floor, and once her mind, clouded by the gold coins, calmed down, she realized a serious problem—how were they supposed to dance the social dances here?

The Duke raised an eyebrow slightly. "Is this why you don't dance?"

Li Aili's eyes darted around, "Once sold, no returns or exchanges."

The Duke chuckled softly, "I'll teach you."

"First, step your left foot on top of my right foot."

Li Aili doubted she had misheard, but the Duke stretched out his foot.

Li Aili: You're the one who told me to step on this.

She stomped hard on the man's foot with one foot.

The Duke then said, “Right foot, step on my left foot.”

When Li Aili stepped on it, she realized that the two of them were almost touching.

She stood entirely on the Duke's feet.

Then, the Duke stepped forward and began to dance lightly to the music.

They clung to each other on the dance floor, like a pair of fluttering butterflies.

Countless men and women, so engrossed in watching them, accidentally lost their rhythm and stepped on their partners' feet.

Li Aili pressed against Arthur Cold Jade, her heart pounding.

What does this feel like?

A sour, swollen feeling spread through my heart.

She didn't dare look up at the man's strong jawline; she was afraid she would lose her heart.

When the music ended, the Duke slowly stopped dancing.

The entire room fell silent.

Li Aili hurriedly stepped back, landing on the ground again, thus increasing the distance between herself and the Duke.

"Ha...am I a little heavy?" she said awkwardly.

Looking up, I saw the lingering sorrow in her blue eyes.

Li Aili was stunned.

Is Arthur Cold Jade feeling sad? Could this tough guy... possibly have such feelings?

Why did he have that look in his eyes?

A whole host of stand-in literature suddenly popped up, like a bucket of cold water being poured over her head, instantly calming her down.

"Will you still jump?" the Duke asked her softly.

“No, a wise person knows when to stop,” she said with a slight smile, her words carrying a deeper meaning.

The Duke frowned slightly, about to say something, when a scream came from the second floor.

The band stopped playing, and the guests gathered curiously in front of the stairs.

"It's Sofina!!" Duke Red Pomegranate's expression suddenly darkened in the dance floor.

He took three steps at a time and quickly rushed up the steps.

Upon reaching the second floor, he immediately drew his sword.

The Duke of Nanjun, sword in hand, disappeared around the corner of the stairs.

The guests whispered among themselves, speculating about what had happened.

Was that Miss Sofina's voice just now?

I just saw His Excellency the Saint go upstairs too...

Li Aili silently surveyed the hall, searching for the Cardinal.

Sure enough, there was no sign of the cardinal.

Her gaze fell upon the very handsome bishop of the Holy See. He too was frowning, speaking in hushed tones with the knight of light who was traveling with him.

Li Aili can see the bubbles above their heads.

Where exactly did His Excellency the Cardinal go?

Miss Sofina seems to have had an accident.

[Find the saint quickly...]

Li Aili: "..."

Just then, there was a commotion on the second floor.

The Duke of Nanjun came running down with a menacing look on his face.

Behind him, Miss Sofina, disheveled, chased after him, shouting, "No!!! Brandon! Darling! Let me explain!"
