Chapter Sixty-Four Investigation Report

After giving his report, the shadow minion did not leave.

He continued dutifully, reporting, "The people who attacked the Water Bottle Forest were hired by the Coran family."

"Those people got the information about the Kettle Forest from the drunken 'green hat' adventurer."

The Duke picked up the black tea on the table and took a small sip. "They actually have spare money to do this."

Shadow's henchman said, "In fact... it was through the noble loan from the Goblin Bank."

“A bank loan specifically for nobles, secured by their fiefdoms,” Shadow Claw added.

Li Aili: "…………" No, how deep must this hatred be? Borrowing money to take revenge?

The problem is, she has absolutely no idea what losses Coran's actions have caused the Duke.

Oh, but a group of tree spirits have successfully settled in the western forest, automatically upgrading the defenses on the west side of the castle to a new level...

Is this a perfect example of "giving roses to others leaves a lingering fragrance on your own hands"?

The castle's western defenses are now invincible. I wonder what kind of bittersweet feeling the Kelan family will have when they learn that their revenge, fueled by debt, has only made their enemy stronger.

However, what worried Li Aili most was the issue closely related to her career: "Could they know about alchemy?"

Otherwise, her boyfriend is always acting mysteriously, either fighting or causing trouble. Why is the Kelan family so fixated on the Water Bottle Forest?

The Duke retorted sarcastically, "You overestimate the intelligence of the Coran family."

"If it's really as you guessed, then the ones who attacked the Kettle Forest would be the King's Royal Knights, not the adventurers from the Royal Capital Adventurers' Guild."

The Shadow Claw continued, "Regarding the 'Giants' Lost Fragrance,' all the evidence we've gathered points to the one in the north."

Without a second thought, the Duke replied, "Not 'Northern Wolf' Wolf."

"Yes, after investigation, we found that all the evidence points to a newly appointed general, Bud Whiteman."

"But during subsequent surveillance, we discovered that he was secretly passing messages to the royal family."

"This is what we copied from the intercepted note."

After saying this, he placed a stack of parchment on the Duke's desk.

Duke Zhan lowered his eyes and looked at the stack of parchment in front of him.

Each note was covered in writing. He looked up expressionlessly. "Notes?"

They could be stapled together to make a book.

The Shadow Clerk said with a complicated expression, "Yes, after we pretended to leave the North, this general couldn't wait to release a snowy owl."

"Because the snowy owl had such a heavy letter hanging from its leg, it didn't fly very high, and we easily intercepted the letter...and copied it down."

The Duke flipped through it hastily.

Li Aili saw him scan a piece of paper in five seconds, and only stop when he saw the last one.

Li Aili, out of curiosity, leaned over and picked up the first piece of parchment, taking a quick look...

[To His Majesty the most exalted, noblest, most illustrious, and greatest King of the Kingdom of Clark...]

Good heavens! No wonder the snowy owl was so tired it couldn't fly!

It was all flattery.

Li Aili: "Why didn't they use magic to deliver such an important message?"

The Shadow minion lowered his head and said respectfully, "It's probably because of the betrayal of the Lord of the Red Tower that the King now sees every mage as a traitor."

“He believes that only the oldest methods are the safest…” Shadow Henchman sighed.

Li Aili: "..." This is truly the world's number one 'intelligence'.

The Duke instructed, "Go and remind Wolf."

The Shadow Minions acknowledged the order and withdrew.

Li Aili looked silently at the last piece of parchment in her hand.

"...My perfect plan has been executed, and now that one in the west must be in a state of impotent rage... Just as I told you, he is not invincible; at least before the giants, he can only rage in vain..."

Li Aili: "..."

She looked out the window.

Outside, the weather was fine and sunny. The only discordant element was a group of one-eyed giants who were weeping while diligently planting trees in the western forest like hardworking oxen.

Indeed... all that's left is impotent rage.

Thinking about this, Li Aili also felt a little scared.

She suddenly remembered something, "Speaking of which, it seems that you also have 'little mice' in your knightly order."

She remembered a knight named Mark Duke whom she had bumped into in the hallway one day.

“A guy named Mark Duke, he was also a spy.”

The Duke leaned back in his high-backed chair, his face showing no surprise.

Upon seeing this, Li Aili asked, "Aren't you surprised? You knew Mark Duke was a spy?"

The Duke gave a soft "hmm," and said, "His wife is a distant relative of the Coran family."

On the first day the couple arrived in the city center, detailed information about their identities was delivered to the Duke by Shadow's minions.

Li Aili remembered that there was a lady who always had bright red bubbles on her head at her tea parties.

One moment he'd be cursing the lady as a country bumpkin, the next he'd be criticizing her clothes, but most of the time he was just cursing her.

Because her bubbles were too discordant, after only a few times, Ellie instructed Joanna not to invite her to Constantinople anymore.

The Duke tapped the table with his finger. "So, what do you plan to do with that minotaur?"

"If you want, I only need to write one..."

Li Aili interrupted the Duke, "I think Bajin needs to be taught a lesson. Otherwise, he always uses the same old tricks from their underground city to do things here."
