Chapter Sixty-Seven Contradictions

Li Ai Li could understand why Arthur was so angry.

The upper echelons of the Holy Dragon Empire have long suspected that the God of Light is behind the incident involving the God of Deception.

Aniana's love for the God of Light...

They were supposed to have a late-night snack together, but Arthur got so angry that he didn't eat a single bite, and his face was full of gloom.

Well...

Putting yourself in Li Aili's shoes, you might also be angry.

The God of Light is suspected of being the mastermind behind the deaths of Anyana's two uncles.

As an imperial princess, Aniana couldn't possibly be completely unaware of this.

The hymn of light she hummed in the garden—no, the hymn of light's confession—was like a naked declaration to Arthur: 'Family or love, I choose love.'

Li Aili did not interfere too much in the matters between the siblings.

All she could do was offer Arthur some comfort.

"Don't be angry, maybe it's just a momentary infatuation... You'll understand later."

Besides... would a god fall in love with a mortal?

Can a person fall in love with an ant?

She felt somewhat at ease when she thought of Aniana, dressed in a black veil, 1000 years later.

Judging from Anyana's expression, she must deeply hate the light.

"In the end, she will come to her senses."

A thousand years later, Anyana is eager to please Arthur, but Arthur ignores her.

The next day, Arthur simply stopped going to the restaurant for meals.

Li Aili suspected that he was afraid she wouldn't be able to control her temper after seeing Anyana.

Li Aili could only sit at the dining table and dine with the Emperor and Empress.

Faced with the Emperor and Empress's frequent inquiries about Arthur's condition, she had to rack her brains to come up with reasons and help cover for him.

Aniana, on the other side of the table, merely glanced at it indifferently.

The other people at the table were quiet.

Only the Emperor and Empress would occasionally exchange a few words with Li Aili.

"Ellie, my angel rose has bloomed, you will be..." The Empress was interrupted by Anyana before she could finish speaking.

“Albert, I haven’t heard you talk about politics at the dinner table lately.”

In the past, the men of Shenglong would habitually discuss political matters at the dinner table.

But after Aniana said that, Li Aili realized that recently, she hadn't heard anything about national affairs at the dinner table.

Albert casually cut the roasted ribs on his plate...

The knight's breakfast was equivalent to her dinner, and it consisted mostly of meat.

“Oh. That’s probably because the country is peaceful and prosperous,” Albert said casually.

Aniana glanced at him. "Really, brother?"

“I did hear such a story once at the Holy Monastery.”

Li Aili could clearly sense that the atmosphere at the dinner table dropped when she mentioned the 'Holy Monastery'.

The Valkyrie Sophia, who was feeding the wolf cubs, lifted her eyelids to look at Anyana upon hearing this.

Aniana continued, "There's a wealthy businessman who comes to pray every day."

"He was very generous, donating tens of thousands of gold coins each time."

Hearing this, Albert chuckled and glanced at his mother with a mocking look. "Sending Anyana to the 'slums' was truly your biggest mistake."

Aniana ignored Albert's teasing and said to herself, "The way he boasts about his wealth is strange."

"Everyone is talking about how capable they are and how much money they've made."

"Only he would talk about which business he lost and how much money whenever he talked to others about his business."

Albert's smile faded.

Aniana said, "In the end, he really lost a lot of money, and when he came to the church, he no longer made generous donations."

"This time, when everyone joked that he must have lost too much money in business, he actually lied and denied it..."

With a "bang—!", Albert lightly slammed his fist on the table and stood up.

"Enjoy your meal, everyone," Albert said before striding away.

Brandon gracefully picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth, then stood up, bowed to the Empress and the Valkyrie, and quickly followed Albert.

Sophia looked at Anyana, "Aniana, what if this family perishes?"

Do you think you'll still be respected like this?

Aniana looked at her and replied earnestly, "I am respected because I am a 'chosen one' of the light."

"Instead of stemming from her status as an imperial princess."

Sophia stood up, grabbed a few pieces of bread, and prepared to go back to continue feeding the 'little wolf cubs'.

"Your Majesty, I shall take my leave now."

Then she wanted to see a white-furred 'little wolf'.

The little wolf performed a chest-pounding salute in a very proper manner.

The Valkyrie led the wolf cub away.

Aniana bit her lip and said to the silent Empress:

"What I meant was... I just wanted my brother to know that there's no use in pretending things are fine."

The emperor and empress calmly looked at their only daughter.

"Anniana, go back to your room."

Aniana stood up and looked at her mother. "You really are...you all really are..."

Li Aili met her gaze and saw a fleeting hint of hostility in the Holy Maiden of Light's eyes.

Until Aniana left.

The emperor and empress finally let out a sigh of relief.

She wearily rested her forehead on her hand. "Ellie... what am I going to do with this child?"

Li Aili has already eaten her fill.

She's now starting to 'pack' Arthur.

Hmm, the knight needs to eat more meat...

She devoured the main course, the roasted pork chops.

This type of pork rib, grilled with a secret sweet and savory sauce, is fragrant, tender, and juicy.
