Chapter Twelve: The Duke's Weakness

Upon seeing the carriage Charlie Colan was riding in, Ellie understood why he dared to be so reckless.

The lord's carriage was engraved with the coat of arms of the Clark royal family, and he was accompanied by 16 golden knights riding royal griffins.

No wonder this 'former uncle' dared to be so arrogant; it turns out he's found 'outside help'.

However, when Arthur Cold Jade noticed the prominent royal crest on the carriage, he merely curled his lips in a mocking smile.

Li Aili noticed this and her heart skipped a beat.

Perhaps Arthur Cold Jade's ambitions were greater than she imagined.

The two walked up to the carriage, but Charlie Coran, who was sitting inside, still didn't intend to get off.

Arthur Cold Jade drew the sword of the knight beside him with a backhand.

Li Aili was clearly not the only one who witnessed this scene; a huge "bubble" appeared in the carriage in front of her.

The overflowing "bubbles" were filled with terrified "Ah!"

The royal knights guarding the carriage also had colorful decorations above their heads.

[What the hell! What is Cold Jade doing?!]

[Is the idiot from the Kelan family out of his mind? Why did he have to provoke this lunatic for no reason!]

[I heard that Duke Cold Emerald is just one step away from the 'Paladin' rank. Can our 16 Gold Saints defeat him?]

[Bullshit!!! I should have dragged that pig from the Kelan family's carriage just now!]

The royal knights' hands were all on their swords at their waists, and the air was thick with the smell of gunpowder, as if they were about to fight at any moment.

Li Aili very consciously stepped back to avoid getting involved in a real fight.

The Duke swung his longsword with effortless ease, creating a crescent-shaped wave of platinum gold in the air.

The sword wave slashed straight at the carriage.

The Golden Knight was shocked, not expecting that Cold Jade would actually take action without saying a word.

But being gold-ranked knights, they each unfurled huge, semi-transparent "shields" to defend against the Duke's attacks.

The shields overlapped each other, like layers of flower buds, completely protecting the carriage at the center.

In the blink of an eye, the sword wave struck the shield.

Look, the Duke's sword wave is like slicing a mille-feuille cake.

The first shield shattered instantly, then the second, the third... until the last shield shattered, the sword wave continued its unstoppable advance.

The knights had already drawn their swords, and several longswords were seen blocking the Duke's sword wave.

And that was the end of it.

The royal knights who were about to meet the sword wave were instantly knocked away, flying seven or eight meters like kites with broken strings, before falling face-first into the mud in a sorry state.

Immediately afterwards, the unrestrained sword wave overturned the luxurious royal carriage.

The overturned carriage nearly hit the remaining royal knights, but fortunately their griffins were very "pragmatic" and were startled into the sky by the Duke's sword wave.

With a "whoosh," Arthur Cold Jade sheathed his sword, his calm, unwavering blue eyes surveying the chaotic scene before him.

Li Aili: "..." He's... kind of handsome.

The carriage door was pushed open in a disheveled manner, and Charlie Coran, whose court wig was askew, struggled to climb out of the carriage.

Li Aili finally saw her long-lost 'former uncle'. The middle-aged man had sunken eye bags, dark circles under his eyes, and a face full of fat.

The court wig was also askew, revealing the 'Mediterranean' hairline that it was trying to conceal.

In the original owner's memories, Charlie Colan, while not as handsome as the Duke, was still a rare good-looking man. Even after so many years, he should have been a handsome middle-aged man. But the man in front of her was far from that level, wasn't he?

Time, for this person, can no longer be described as a "butcher's knife".

Then came Lady Coran, whose 'cake skirt', a favorite of aristocratic women, made her look quite awkward.

Finally, the Golden Knight, who had rushed back in a disheveled state, lent a hand and 'rescued' her from the carriage.

“I won’t get off,” the Duke said, looking at the group from the capital. “I don’t mind ‘teaching’ you.”

Charlie Coran was so angry his face contorted. But his wife subtly tugged at him, and he managed to force a smile at the Duke.

"...It must have been a misunderstanding."

Even without her mind-reading abilities, Li Aili could tell that the couple was up to something. Sure enough, bubbles started appearing above their heads.

[Ha! That bastard Arthur Cold Jade!]

The more arrogant you are now, the more pathetic you'll be when you kneel down!

Damn it! That little bitch from the Nice family saw what I was doing just now!

Damn it! How come those little bitches in their family always have the luck to marry good men!

[Heh! It's alright, this little bitch's good days are coming to an end.]

Li Aili's brows furrowed slightly, and her sense of arousal towards the two people plummeted to its lowest point.

Out of courtesy to the nobles, even if the duke disliked them, he had no choice but to receive the visitors from the capital in Constantinople.

The royal knights stayed by the lord's side without leaving his side for a moment.

Although they themselves had some doubts about whether they could protect Lord Coran under the Duke of Cold Emerald.

Arthur Cold Jade sat with Ellie on a two-seater sofa.

The handsome man rested one hand on the back of the sofa behind Li Aili, not even bothering to look at the couple sitting opposite him.

Vice Commander Balk and several Grand Knights were also present.

At such times, they became the Duke's 'mouthpiece,' responsible for communicating with the group from the capital.

Duke Cold Jade listened casually.

Lord Coran spoke to the Duke several times, but didn't even get a glance in return.
