Chapter Twenty-One: The Literary Tide in the Central City

After Li Aili shared the concept of "shipping" with the simple and unpretentious knights' wives.

Shipping couples is like a storm, sweeping through the entire social circle of the ladies.

At first, everyone was greatly shocked.

But after you get used to it... it's really delicious.

Many servants in the Upper Town mansions were surprised to find that their mistresses no longer frequently went to the Grand Theatre to adore those pretty boys, but suddenly stayed indoors, spending their days locked at their desks, writing furiously.

Moreover, she often finds herself wearing a strange, maternal smile while writing...

A new, niche genre of gay literature has become popular in the Upper East Side.

The preferences of nobles are always a barometer for merchants.

After the theater's revenue hit a new low, owner Melt Whelan finally couldn't hold on any longer.

He went to the black market and posted a bounty.

[What are the ladies of the city center obsessed with lately?]

[Bounty: 100 gold coins]

In this world, there are always some wolves who would risk their lives for gold coins.

The group of ruthless individuals who accepted the mission spent their days and nights squatting in the trash cans of the mansions in the upper district.

So that they can collect the 'freshest' intelligence every day.

Of course, it works.

Two weeks later, Mr. Melt Whelan, the owner of the Grand Theatre, received such an investigation report.

Ladies, you're hopelessly obsessed with male-male romance rumors, and here's the situation...

Mr. Melt was deeply shocked after reading it, and his worldview was completely shattered.

But as a shrewd businessman, Mr. Melt, having caught his breath, quickly discovered the enormous business opportunities within.

So he immediately summoned all the actors and held an emergency meeting.

The following day, an opera titled "The Duke and the Knight" was hastily staged.

Melt Whelan nervously sent the performance program to the ladies living in the Upper Town.

He was making incredibly devout prayers to the God of Wealth until the tickets went on sale.

Then... his tickets sold out immediately.

Melt Whelan was beaming; if it weren't for his ears covering his face, his mouth would have stretched all the way to the back of his head.

But the good news doesn't stop there.

As the audience began to enter, a horse-drawn carriage, which could not possibly be discreet, stopped directly at the entrance of the grand theater.

The coat of arms unique to Constantinople on the carriages astonished passersby.

The elegant and beautiful Duchess Elizabeth Cold Jade stepped out of the car with great interest.

Upon receiving the news, Melt Whelan rushed out immediately.

The moment he saw Li Aili, he was so excited that he was practically oxygen-deprived.

"Quick, quick..." he said, supporting his colleague. "Quick, slap me! See if I'm doing this..."

Before he could finish saying the word "dream," a sharp, bright slap landed on his fat face.

The waiter lowered his voice worriedly, "'Madwoman' might not be here to show her support. Just based on the word 'Duke,' I think it's more likely she's here to cause trouble!"

Melt Whelan snapped out of his dream of overnight riches and immediately shuddered.

But it was too late.

Li Aili heard the sound of slapping and looked over curiously.

Then she saw a slightly overweight middle-aged man with a half-swollen, red face give her a smile that looked worse than crying.

Li Aili: "..."

"I, my esteemed Duchess, what brings you here...?"

Li Aili looked with interest at the trembling "bubble" above the theater owner's head, and deliberately pointed mischievously at the huge sign displayed by the theater.

"Was it 'forbidden love' and 'the eternal love between a duke and a knight' that 'blew' me here?" Li Aili quoted the advertising slogan on the signboard.

What I was thinking was: This boss knows how to create a couple pairing.

The boss was terrified.

But his performance was already ready.

If he dares to boycott the show now, the ladies who bought tickets will definitely tear him to pieces.

Seeing that the poor, honest man was about to be terrified, Li Aili coughed lightly, "Alright, enough joking around. I was also invited to enjoy your theater's new production."

After saying that, she took out the ticket.

One moment in hell, the next in heaven—that's probably how Melt Whelan felt at that moment.

After the ladies were seated, the performance officially began.

I don't know if it was because the news of the Duchess coming to see the play spread, but on stage, the two male actors were like peacocks spreading their tails.

When humans abandon certain...Emm...bottom lines, they exude a kind of "beauty of going all out".

Two handsome male actors put aside their usual backstage 'scheming' and diligently performed the script that their boss had written overnight.

They suppressed the urge to slap each other with the soles of their shoes, reciting those cheesy lines that even lovers wouldn't dare utter... causing the elegant ladies in the private room to scream wildly.

Then, the performance was a huge success.

As they stepped off the stage, the two were nearly overwhelmed by the roses that had been thrown onto it.

They walked backstage in a daze, feeling as if it were all a dream.

Not to mention the ladies.

They had only been indulging in "niche literature" for a few days, and now they were seeing a live-action BL drama for the first time. How could they possibly handle such a shock?

They're all about to faint from lack of oxygen, okay?

Especially after they secretly switched the male lead to the Duke's incomparably handsome face.

As a lady was leaving the theater, her nose suddenly felt hot, and a stream of blood gushed out, which terrified her maid.
