While Li Aili was sleeping at night, the Duke was still having a meeting with the Grand Knights.
The next day, she woke up to find the study door still closed, and she could smell the tobacco emanating from inside even through the door.
"Joanna, do you think... if the kingdom converts to the Dark Church, it will really have such a big impact?" After tiptoeing back into the room, Li Aili asked somewhat uneasily.
Joanna combed Li Aili's golden hair and said nonchalantly, "I don't think it matters. The Holy See doesn't protect duchies, so I don't think it makes a difference if we change to another one."
Li Aili was still a little apprehensive.
After much deliberation, she finally arrived at the door of the Duke's study.
If the problem was indeed caused by her making things up, then she should step forward and try to remedy it...
Fortunately, she was an alchemist and could create a 'forgetfulness potion' to ensure that Marquis Marina would forget all the unpleasantness in Constantinople!
As she was thinking, the tightly closed study door opened.
The Grand Knights emerged one by one, all with unshaven beards and dark circles under their eyes.
Grand Knight Commander Lance, who was stretching lazily, was caught off guard when he saw Li Aili.
Li Aili snapped out of her daze and raised her hand to greet everyone, but to her surprise, the knights all took a big step back, creating distance between themselves and Li Aili.
Li Aili: "???"
Finally, Balk reluctantly nodded to her. At the same time, a 'shivering bubble' appeared above his head:
I should thank her for sparing my life.
Li Aili: "..."
The knights didn't give her a chance to speak. They hugged the wall and ran away like mice seeing a cat. Their speed was so fast that... if it were yesterday, the Cyclops wouldn't have been able to run three meters before they pinned her to the ground.
Li Aili entered the study, where the Duke was leaning back on the sofa, resting with his eyes closed.
"What did you talk about in your meeting last night? Why did they run away as soon as they saw me?"
The Duke patted the cushion next to him, gesturing for her to sit down.
Li Aili sat down angrily, and the Duke said lazily, "Do you have a grudge against Harry Clark?"
Li Aili paused for a moment before realizing that it was the name of the current King of Clark. "No."
The Duke then asked, "So you have a grudge against Queen Melanie?"
No, not at all.
"And what about you and Crown Prince Herman?"
"I've never even met them, what grudge could I possibly have against them?"
The Duke nodded and said slowly, "That's probably why they fear you. You've almost ruined this family without any grudge against them."
Li Aili: "..."
“Actually, the meeting ended an hour ago.” The Duke got up, walked to the window, and opened the study window.
“Guess what the knights were talking about in the last hour.” The Duke sat back down next to Ellie.
Li Aili rolled her eyes at the man who was being mysterious. "How should I know?"
Arthur Cold Jade tilted his head and said lazily, "They're racking their brains trying to remember if they've ever offended you in any way."
Li Aili: "..."
The Duke couldn't resist the urge to ruffle Li Aili's hair. "They weren't afraid of giants. Congratulations, my lady."
Li Aili: "..."
She mimicked the Duke's leisurely manner of speaking, and said sarcastically, "Then they'd better watch out. It wasn't like that before, but it's hard to say now."
The two looked at each other and smiled.
The conversation just now reassured Li Aili.
“Seriously, if the problem is really serious, we have plenty of ‘forgetfulness potions,’ you know what I mean,” Li Aili said earnestly.
The Duke chuckled softly, a 'fire' burning deep within his eyes that Li Ai Li couldn't decipher. "Why should I save Harry Clark?"
Arthur Cold Jade looked out the window, his pupils appearing like thin lines of a snake in the sunlight. "Justice is always delayed."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Knock, knock knock.
That familiar knocking rhythm—it's definitely Conrad.
The Duke said calmly, "Come in."
Conrad walked in and said, "Your Highness, a group of people has arrived outside the castle."
The centaur race left a deep impression on Li Aili.
After all, it was this clan's 'outstanding horseman' who brazenly declared his intention to assassinate her in front of two knightly orders.
The Duke stood up and straightened his clothes.
"Let their chieftain come to see me alone. The rest are to be accommodated in the western forest."
The Duke said to Li Aili, "It's the assassin's clan."
Li Aili then remembered Jasmine, the centaur girl who had been rescued from the dark prison by the flower fairy.
Li Aili asked, "You held that girl's sister hostage before, but I haven't seen that centaur girl in the castle since. Where did she go?"
The Duke said speechlessly, "How could I possibly keep her in the castle?"
Li Aili stood up. "Oh, speaking of which, she has some connection with Alice. I'd like to go see her."
Ten minutes later, Li Aili got into the carriage.
The carriage sped along and finally stopped in the lower part of the city center.
The male servant who led Li Aili to the door handed her a black cloak.
Li Aili donned a cloak to conceal her striking beauty before the two of them disembarked from the carriage one after the other.
The male servant led her through the alley and into a filthy little tavern.
The centaur, now restored to his strength, stood on the tavern's stage, holding a small harp, and began to sing like a bard:
“Oh, look, those once noble elves, now all they know is how to make money.”
