Chapter 14 Humans and ghosts are on different paths; do not let your obsession run too deep.

The stall owner was startled at first, but then he saw that it was a beautiful and docile snake, so he was no longer so afraid. Instead, he smiled and praised it in Cantonese.

Xie Xun understood.

His college roommate was a guy from Hong Kong. Over four years of exposure to Cantonese, he was able to understand most of it and speak a few words, though with a slightly awkward accent.

Xie Xun replied to the old man in somewhat broken but fairly standard Cantonese, "Thank you, sir. It's obedient."

The slightly accented Cantonese phrase, combined with his clean-cut and outstanding appearance, made the old man immediately feel that this young man was both handsome and polite, and his smile became even more genuine.

Fu Qinghuai watched as Xie Xun chatted happily with a stranger in a language he couldn't understand.

Although it was only a short sentence, the gentle attitude that was so different from how she treated him, so natural and kind, instantly cast a shadow over his eyes.

So much so that one of the plastic leaves of the glowing windmill in his hand shattered silently.

Xie Xun frowned and glanced at him, but in the end he still paid for it out of his own pocket, letting the idiot carry the windmill around. Anyway, it wasn't him who was embarrassed.

After paying, he shoved the defective windmill, missing a leaf, back into Fu Qinghuai's hand, his tone indifferent, "Take it and don't break it again."

Fu Qinghuai looked down at the glowing windmill in his hand, then at Xie Xun's disgusted expression. The gloom in his eyes instantly vanished, and the corners of his mouth involuntarily curved upwards into a slight smile.

He obediently held the windmill, even carefully refraining from using force.

He looked as if he had obtained some unique treasure, even though it was just a cheap and broken toy.

As for the displeasure he felt earlier because Xie Xun was talking to someone else, it had long been forgotten.

Little Green peeked at everything through the gap in her collar, and Nobuko slowly exhaled.

Xie Xun felt utterly exhausted watching him so easily appeased. He ignored the rascal who was now grinning foolishly at the broken windmill and turned to walk towards the tea restaurant.

Just then, a delicious aroma wafted from a nearby stall. Fu Qinghuai's nose twitched slightly, immediately drawn in.

He put his arm around Xie Xun's shoulder, his gaze fixed on the steaming stall. In one pot were golden curry fish balls and another pot of dark-colored pig's feet with ginger. He leaned close to the young man's ear and said in a sticky, coquettish voice, "Xunxun, that smells good."

Xie Xun didn't even bother to lift his eyelids. "You have no money."

"You have."

Fu Qinghuai answered quickly, and had already spontaneously taken a step toward the stall with his arm around the person, his eyes fixed on the bubbling food, "Buy three portions."

Xie Xun took a deep breath and told himself that arguing with a lunatic who had been starving for a thousand years was a complete waste of time.

He expressionlessly took out his phone, scanned the QR code, and succinctly told the shop owner, "One order of fish balls."

They completely ignored the ghost's unreasonable demands.

When the owner handed over the food, Fu Qinghuai looked at the few lonely fish balls, and a hint of grievance appeared in his peach blossom eyes.

He took the disposable bowl, picked up a fish ball with a bamboo skewer, sniffed it cautiously, and then, with a flick of his wrist, brought it to Xie Xun's lips.

Those deep, beautiful peach blossom eyes stared straight at him, their bright stubbornness and expectation shining through.

"Xunxun, you go first."

Xie Xun: "..."

A vein throbbed on his forehead.

The surrounding crowd was noisy, the stall owners were still watching, and the live-streaming team was at the entrance of a tea restaurant not far away...

Xie Xun quickly weighed the pros and cons of the potential commotion caused by publicly dumping the bowl of fish balls on Fu Qinghuai's head versus temporarily satisfying this lunatic's trivial request.

After a moment, he almost gritted his teeth, and with lightning speed, he lowered his head slightly and quickly snatched the fish egg from the bamboo skewer.

The movements were swift, but a thin blush crept onto her fair ears.

Fu Qinghuai looked at his obviously embarrassed and angry but had no choice but to obey, and then noticed the blush on his ear tips. His eyes instantly sparkled, and his face was full of a triumphant smile.

He quickly picked up a fish ball as well, but his eyes were fixed on Xie Xun. He inexplicably commented, "So delicious!"

I don't know if they're talking about fish balls or something else.

Only then did he begin to slowly enjoy the remaining food, his demeanor regaining its former elegance, as if he were not the one who had just been forced to eat in the street.

Xie Xun chewed on the fish ball in his mouth, which he couldn't taste at all, and felt his cheeks burning. A sense of absurdity and embarrassment welled up in his heart.

"I'm leaving." He practically gritted his teeth as he uttered those two words.

After saying that, he turned and left, not wanting to look at that grinning, silly devil any longer.

Fu Qinghuai was quite satisfied this time. He quickly finished his food, accurately threw the empty bowl into the trash can, picked up his broken windmill, and followed along with light steps.

He put his hand on Xie Xun's shoulder again, but his eyes kept glancing at the other food stalls on the roadside.

The streamer Qiangzi's team had obviously arrived long ago; their seven-seater van, decorated with dark-colored model kits, was parked by the roadside. Qiangzi and his companions were sitting in a tea restaurant, with barely touched pineapple buns and milk tea in front of them. Their faces were pale, a stark contrast to the noisy surroundings.

When Xie Xun and Fu Qinghuai, who was looking around, finally walked in, Qiangzi jumped up from his seat as if he had seen a savior and quickly went out to greet them.

"Master Xie! You...you've arrived!"

He spoke respectfully, but glanced uneasily at Fu Qinghuai, who was staring at the pineapple bun on the table beside Xie Xun.

I didn't dare look them in the eye, let alone greet them.

The faint wisp of soul belonging to Fu Qinghuai within his body trembled violently, affecting him as well.

Although Qiangzi's assistant Ye Zi and photographer Xiao Chen were confused, they were also curious about Qiangzi and looked at Xie Xun and Fu Qinghuai with longing eyes.

Master Liu, dressed in a black Chinese-style jacket, sat alone with only a glass of water in front of him.

When he saw Xie Xun and the other person, especially when his gaze fell on Fu Qinghuai, his expression changed almost imperceptibly. He quickened the pace of turning the prayer beads in his hands, his eyes fixed intently on Fu Qinghuai.

After a while, as everyone prepared to get into the car, Master Liu deliberately lagged behind by two steps, standing shoulder to shoulder with Xie Xun. He lowered his voice and whispered a few words of warning in Xie Xun's ear.

"Young friend, something is amiss with the person beside you. In all my years of cultivation, I have never encountered such a contradictory aura. Humans and ghosts are on different paths; do not let your attachments run too deep!"

However, Xie Xun's face remained completely expressionless after hearing this.

He didn't even glance at Master Liu, but simply slapped away Fu Qinghuai's hand that was gradually moving towards his waist.

The latter shamelessly put his hand back on Xie Xun's shoulder, even resting his chin lightly on Xie Xun's shoulder, and gave Master Liu a provocative smile.

Xie Xun glanced at Fu Qinghuai and replied to Master Liu indifferently, "No need for you to trouble yourself."
