Chapter 5 The Massacre of the Family Three Years Ago

Chapter 5 The Massacre of the Family Three Years Ago

The old doctor's hand holding the scissors suddenly froze in mid-air. He pushed up his reading glasses and leaned closer to examine the object carefully.

Xie Xun has delicate features, but his facial contours do have the sharpness that is unique to men. However, his skin is too pale, his fox-like eyes are upturned, and he looks a bit haggard after just one night in a haunted house, which makes people mistake his gender at first glance.

"Ah... I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!"

The old doctor blushed deeply, quickly put away his scissors, and said apologetically, "Look at my eyes, I'm really getting senile. It's just that you're such a handsome young man, like a movie star, that I misjudged you."

Xie Xun stood up and moved his bandaged wrist. The gauze was just the right tightness and didn't affect his movements. "It's alright, people often admit their mistakes."

"Your wound looks deep, but it didn't damage the tendon. Just change the dressing on time."

The old doctor gave a few more instructions and then chatted with Xie Xun quite naturally. "This kind of external injury is easy to treat. The nurse just did some initial disinfection for you, and I'll take care of the bandaging afterwards. If the wound were deeper, we would have to call a surgeon to stitch it up."

Xie Xun nodded, took the dressing change slip from the doctor, and turned to walk out the door.

As soon as I entered the corridor, I heard the old doctor behind me muttering to the nurse, "How come young men these days are more handsome than girls? I thought some young lady had just suffered a broken heart, and I almost wanted to tell her not to be sad over a boy..."

Xie Xun smiled and curled his lips, the weariness in his eyes fading somewhat.

After leaving the hospital, he was nearly hit by a car at a three-way intersection, and was then forced into the middle of the road by several motorcycles, causing people to briefly stop and stare. Xie Xun got up from the ground in a disheveled state, clutching his scraped arm, and quickly walked to the side of the road.

If he had been any later, he probably would have been hit and killed by those cars.

After overcoming numerous hardships, Xie Xun finally managed to sneak into a breakfast shop near his family's paper craft shop.

He ordered a bowl of soy milk, two fried dough sticks, a meat bun, and a sauerkraut bun, but was told that they were all out of stock and only a few vegetarian steamed buns were left.

Xie Xun sighed inwardly and ordered the remaining steamed buns to take away.

He was terrified that if he was even a second too late, he wouldn't get to eat those few steamed buns.

On his way back to the shop, Xie Xun remembered that the male owner had given him an envelope when he took him to the villa.

I didn't look closely at the time, but when I got back to the store and took it out, I found a thick wad of cash inside.

That wad of cash in the shop probably isn't real money.

In any case, the predicament of having no rice to cook is over. Xie Xun raised an eyebrow and put the cash away.

He thought it would be a hassle, but he ended up earning a small fee, which solved his immediate problem.

He had just put the money in the drawer when a familiar voice called out from outside the door, "Ah Xun! Come quick, I brought you something delicious!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than a boy wearing a trendy hoodie strode in. It was Jiang Lehui, Xie Xun's childhood friend.

This person went to work as a food streamer at a media company right after graduation. He didn't have many fans, but he was handsome and had a great way of eating, so he had a lot of casual fans and mom fans.

She is considered one of the top internet celebrities.

"I heard from Aunt Wang next door that you didn't come back last night. I thought you'd been taken away by a ghost!"

Jiang Le, ever the familiar type, leaned in close, her nose almost touching Xie Xun's. Her gaze swept over the bite mark on Xie Xun's neck, her eyes widening instantly. Then, noticing the gauze on his wrist, she said in an ambiguous and exaggerated tone, "Hey! What happened? Which new friend were you playing with so wildly? Your wrist's wrapped up like a dumpling, and your neck... tsk tsk tsk..."

Xie Xun pushed him away irritably, "Stop talking nonsense, I scratched myself by accident."

"How could the drift happen by such a coincidence?"

Jiang Lehui wouldn't let it go, reaching out to grab his collar, "Let me see if it's a bite mark? You actually left a hickey, Ah Xun, don't play dumb with me, we're like family!"

However, before his hand could even touch Xie Xun's collar, he suddenly hissed and frantically reached for the back of his neck.

"Holy crap! What is this?! It's chilly... Ah Xun, you don't actually have that kind of thing in your shop, do you?"

Xie Xun's heart skipped a beat; he knew without a doubt that Fu Qinghuai was behind it.

"Don't overreact. Paper craft shops are bound to be cool and shady. Did you go crazy from watching the live stream?"

Xie Xun slapped his hand away and made a hand seal to block the invasion of yin energy. Then, he took the good thing he brought from his hand, opened it and found a box of pastries, Cantonese wife cakes.

Without any hesitation, he picked it up and stuffed it into his mouth, noticing out of the corner of his eye that the air behind Jiang Le twisted for a moment.

A dark shadow silently emerged from the shattered jade, solidifying into a semi-transparent form. The demon's eyes held amusement as it glanced at Xie Xun with interest, its fingertips forming a wisp of black mist as it gently scratched Jiang Lehui's hoodie hood.

"ah!"

Jiang Lehui suddenly jumped up, her hat slipping down to the back of her head, revealing her dirty orange-dyed hair. She grabbed Xie Xun's arm and shouted, "There really is something! Xun, look at my hat! Isn't there a shadow?"

Xie Xun suppressed a laugh, "No, you're mistaken."

Fu Qinghuai chuckled softly to the side, and the black mist condensed into a cold wind, blowing past Jiang Lehui's ear, startling him so much that he almost jumped onto Xie Xun.

But this person is also carefree, or rather, has a peculiar way of thinking.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, he leaned closer, his eyes sparkling as he looked at Xie Xun. "Wait, this place is eerie! Perfect timing! Our company has a streamer who broadcasts supernatural content who suddenly became incredibly popular. He streams from an abandoned, unfinished building every day, and the viewership is frighteningly high, but I just feel like something's off..."

Xie Xun raised an eyebrow, unconcerned. "What do you mean?"

“When he was live streaming a few days ago, a few dark figures flashed across the camera, and they looked a bit like the atmosphere of your paper offering shop!”

Upon hearing this, Xie Xun clearly felt the broken jade on his neck burn. The evil spirit, who had been leaning against the paper figure with a nonchalant expression, shifted its gaze, and a faint, mocking smile curved its thin lips.

It was as if they had heard something absurd.

"Exploded in popularity? How exactly did it become an explosion of popularity?" Xie Xun pressed.

"Suddenly, I gained a million followers. During my live streams, fans would send me strange gifts and post pictures of haunted locations in the comments so I could go explore them."

Jiang Le scratched his head, grabbed a wife cake and stuffed it into his mouth. His voice was a little muffled from chewing, "But that's not the weirdest thing. Nobody watched that streamer's broadcasts before. Ever since he went to a murder scene last month, he's been like he's been given a cheat code. Even his eyes have changed. Sometimes he smiles at the camera, and it's a creepy smile..."

Upon hearing this, Xie Xun frowned. His intuition told him that what happened last night seemed to be inextricably linked to this matter.

"What crime scene? What were the family's surnames?"

"His surname is Liu!"

Jiang Le took a sip of water, swallowed, and then said, "The massacre in Hong Kong three years ago! All four members of the family died!"
