Chapter 16 My New Husband is a Boss (2/2)

Chen Shuyun put down the porridge and said with a smile.

"Guess what Mom did this morning?"

Su Ying took the bowl and chopsticks and put them down, then asked in cooperation.

"What were you doing?"

Chen Shuyun moved a small jar from the cupboard.

"I found this in my house. This morning, I went to the vegetable garden with Aunt Li next door and picked up a lot of cabbage leaves. People in the garden had sold the ones they had, but the ones out there didn't want them. I picked up two baskets a day. I washed them and pickled them in the afternoon. It's enough for us to eat for a few months."

Su Ying smiled and gave Chen Shuyun a thumbs up.

"My mom is so mean. We don't even have any money, but we still have pickles to eat."

Chen Shuyun is very humble.

"It's not like we don't need any money at all. We still need to buy salt. And since you like chili peppers, I'm going to buy some more to pickle them in."

The pickled fish Chen Shuyun had prepared that morning wasn't very tasty, but the mother and daughter found it quite delicious when they ate it with white porridge.

Chen Shuyun asked about the couple who got the marriage certificate, especially the man, whom she had never met. She also asked Su Ying what she thought of the man, asking where his disability lay and whether it affected their lives.

Su Ying said a few words vaguely. She wanted to see if there was any hope for Gu Jinghong's recovery, and she was afraid that it would make Chen Shuyun sad, so she didn't tell her clearly.

"What about the wedding? What are they going to do? We came to discuss it the other day and said we'd listen to your opinion. Mom was thinking, why don't we hold it in the village? Bring him to Shangyang Village. All our relatives are in the village, so there won't be many people here to hold it."

Su Ying quickly drank a mouthful of porridge and shook her head.

"Mom, I think we should hold off on it for now. My body can't handle the stress right now, and he's not in good health either. Let's wait until we're older."

Thinking of Su Ying always gave her a headache, and she even vomited that day. She was also worried and could only nod, but she was still conflicted. A grown-up girl got married without even a decent wedding, which was a lifelong regret for a woman. The make-up wedding was different from the original one.

In the afternoon, Su Ying and Chen Shuyun pickled a small jar and a large basin of pickles together. By the time they finished, it was already dark.

Just as the mother and daughter were about to cook, someone came from the military compound and said that Su Ying would be going there to live with Gu Jinghong that evening.

When Chen Shuyun heard that her father was going to take the person away just like that, she immediately burst into tears.

He held Su Ying tightly and refused to let go.

"How can she just get married like this? Yingying, how can my Yingying just go to someone else's house like this?"

Su Ying felt sad when she saw her crying, so she patted her back gently to comfort her.

"Mom, I'm not far from you. I'll come to see you every few days. If you have any questions, just come to me. I don't agree with things like the wedding. I was the one who said they didn't want it. You don't have to feel wronged for me. I don't feel wronged."

Chen Shuyun is a traditional woman with the inherent ideas of this era. In her opinion, not even having a wedding means that the man’s family looks down on the woman and thinks she is not worthy.

Su Ying didn't think so. She couldn't change Chen Shuyun and could only comfort her.

"Mom, I'm leaving first. I'm still waiting outside. I'll definitely come to see you in a few days, three days."

Sitting in the military district's car, Su Ying looked up at Chen Shuyun who had been following the car, and lowered her head to wipe away the tears from the corners of her eyes. She had never felt anything about going to Gu Jinghong, she regarded it as a job.

But in Chen Shuyun's view, this was like her daughter getting married and becoming the wife of someone else's family.
