Chapter 7: Sky-high Bride Price
"Su Ying"
Su Jianshe was startled and quickly supported her.
Su Ying looked up at him and whispered.
"Let's go talk outside."
Maybe the pain had passed, or maybe it was the cool breeze outside, but Su Ying felt a little better.
The two stood under a big tree. Su Ying leaned against the trunk and looked at Su Jianshe indifferently.
"Just tell me what you want to say."
Su Jianshe looked at his own daughter, a face that bore some resemblance to his own, and he felt a little affection for her, so his words actually seemed somewhat sincere.
"Su Ying, you can't go on like this. Did you have a headache again? You don't want your mother to know."
Su Ying didn't say anything. She didn't need Su Jianshe's so-called concern at all. She just wanted to know if Su Jianshe was here to matchmake for her again.
He had said yesterday in the hospital that Su Ying should get married, but I didn't expect her to be so anxious.
Stared at by Su Ying's deep and wise eyes, Su Jianshe felt inexplicably guilty and coughed lightly.
"You don't have a city hukou, so you can't stay in Jiangcheng. Your illness is so serious, you have to find a way to get a city hukou. That will help you get treatment."
Su Ying was so angry that she almost laughed. As expected, could she really expect him to have any love for her?
She leaned against the tree and tilted her head to look at Su Jianshe.
"You should be registered as a resident of Jiangcheng, right? Can't my mom and I just be registered as yours? After all, we are your wife and daughter, so this should be allowed."
Su Jianshe was choked and speechless for a moment.
"Well, I...I can't do that. You have to figure it out on your own."
"Why not? Because there's someone else registered on your account right now?"
Su Ying stared at Su Jianshe. The coldness in her eyes made Su Jianshe tremble inexplicably. He took a step back and sighed.
"Your mother and I were in an arranged marriage. We have no real feelings for each other, so we're definitely getting a divorce."
Su Ying sneered, slowly stood up and took a step forward.
"Since we're getting a divorce, why should you care if I get married? Do you have any opinion on this?"
Su Jianshe looked at Su Ying in surprise. He had never thought that his daughter would be so aggressive, as if she wanted to bring out the ugliest side of him.
In comparison, Xiao Han is much more obedient and well-behaved. She would never force her father like Su Ying did.
"Su Ying, I'm doing this for your own good. Without a city hukou, you can't stay in Jiangcheng. Besides, it costs a lot of money to see a doctor and buy medicine. If I weren't your father, I wouldn't care about you. It's because you are my daughter that I can't bear to see you suffer."
Su Ying stared at Su Jianshe's face. He was still a scholar, yet his face was thicker than the bend of a city wall. Was it for her good? Perhaps he could benefit from it himself, otherwise he would care so much.
"Then tell me, how can I stay in the city? How can I get such a large sum of money for medicine?"
Although Su Jianshe felt guilty when he saw Su Ying's look, he still said yes.
"Of course I'll marry you. I have a great choice. Not only does he have a city hukou, he's also a former soldier. He's very qualified."
Su Ying narrowed her eyes slightly. Why would he introduce such a good person to her?
"You'd better explain it clearly, otherwise if I find out, I will go and make trouble with you."
