Chapter 17 The Rental House Three Years Ago

Getting a certificate of withdrawal from the team shouldn't be difficult.

Linda thought about it for a moment and then understood; there was no way that Leah would let him stay.

It's impossible to deliberately keep him from leaving.

According to Article 35 of the Empire's Adventurers' Law: If Lya Kata is forced to leave the party, she may apply to the Adventurers' Guild.

Although it could drag things out for a few days and deliberately annoy people, based on Linda's understanding of Leah, the other party would disdain using such petty tricks.

Just like Lia's fire-type fighting spirit, she herself is as volatile as flames.

I reckon that as soon as I get there, without even having to say a word, they'll throw the certificate of withdrawal from the team at me.

"That's good, it saves us from wasting words."

Linda, with her hands in her pockets, headed towards their rented apartment with Kaphni.

...

"Where's my grand villa and swimming pool? You're letting me live in a place like this?"

In a dilapidated old neighborhood, Kaphni let out a mournful cry.

What comes into view are rows of old tenement buildings with yellowed walls, looking as old as an eighty-year-old man, swaying precariously in the wind.

Kaphni learned from Linda's conversation with the old woman that the house was only 50 square meters, had no private bathroom, and was shared by everyone on the floor.

No way! I don't want to shower with other people!

Kaphni still wanted to hide her shameful bear.

She had never lived in such a awful place in her entire life.

Linda, however, didn't care at all and bargained with the old lady: "Two silver coins a month, I plan to stay for a long time!"

“Oh dear, I certainly wouldn’t have agreed if it weren’t for Mr. ‘Eye of Wisdom’.”

The landlady looked at Linda with a gossipy expression: "Where are those ladies? Back in the day, you were the only person who could get four girls to willingly live in a place like this."

Three years ago, Linda was seen coming and going with four pretty girls every day, seemingly throwing parties at her house every day.

The old woman was deeply impressed by how he managed to fool four girls out of their minds while living in a dilapidated house.

"Ahem, I'm the only one coming here." Linda noticed the old lady peeking at Kafni and giving her a knowing smile, so she quickly coughed twice. "So 8 silver coins are enough? Let's check in quickly."

"For the sake of your 'wise eyes,' Auntie will reduce it by one more, making it six."

"Really? Thank you so much!"

Linda quickly signed the rental agreement and took the dejected Kaphni to the third floor. She could hear Kaphni muttering complaints like "I don't want to live here," "It's awful," and "How could that damned hero treat the gods like this?"

"Alright, it's already pretty good that you're not sleeping on the streets. You have a place to live in the Sparrow District, so you don't have to worry about safety. On the bright side, you won't be targeted by any black guys."

Linda offered Kaphni a positive and comforting message.

"Heh, we should really find someone else to be the hero," Kaphni said sarcastically.

Ignoring the sullen blonde deity, Linda took out a key from her pocket. There was a sticker with blurry writing on it, which could be barely made out to be 305.

Huh?

Linda blinked in surprise.

This isn't the room they rented together three years ago, the same room they shared.

The Snow Goose Adventure Team was extremely poor in the early stages. Although Lia and the others came from extraordinary backgrounds, each of them seemed to have different hardships. The five of them managed to scrape together a single gold coin.

Now, three years later, when I came back to rent a room, it was the same one.

Coincidence, or was it deliberately arranged by the old lady...?

Fighting newcomers in a place where they had fought before might be a very exciting thing for that older woman.

But that's not the case at all. In the early stages, the Snow Goose Adventure Team spent all their time fighting monsters and training. After returning home, they would eat and then fall asleep immediately. The team members were completely focused on the World Tree Secret Realm, so they didn't have time to do those other things.

Linda frowned slightly. Living in this kind of house only reminded him of the Snow Goose Adventure Team from before, and he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable.

"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and go inside!"

Kaphni was tired and hungry, and already dissatisfied, Linda was just standing there staring blankly, which made her so angry that she snatched the keys away.

With a click, the door opened, and Kaphni pushed it open and entered.

It must have been too long since it had been ventilated; a damp and musty smell wafted over.

Kaphni immediately pinched her nose, her face contorted in pain.

Looking at the familiar old furniture in the small rented room, Linda felt a mix of emotions. Many scenes that had been buried in the corners of her memory seemed to have been unlocked by this rusty key and came rushing back.

"What’s wrong with you?"

"nothing."

"oh."

Kaphni ignored him and went into the room to look around.

One bedroom and one living room, with a separate bathroom.

Turning on the light, the dim, yellowish light made the room feel cramped and suffocating.

Kaphni continued to complain.

Linda pretended not to hear and strolled through the dusty living room.

He looked at the mahogany round table, its paint chipped and riddled with dents, and felt a pang of emotion.

Those craters were made by Chrona using a rice-serving spoon.

Without toys, she would bang her spoon on the table while waiting for her food. Each time, Chrona would puff out her little chest and declare confidently, "The team is too poor to even afford toys, so this is all we can play with!"

At the round table facing the door, was Lia's seat, with Linda opposite her and Lin Xi right next to her. On either side of her were Eko and Chrona.

Seeing these objects brought back memories, making many of them exceptionally vivid in Linda's mind.

He sat down in his seat.

In that instant, it was as if something came to life, and I was transported back to the scene from three years ago.

"What are you looking at? Cheers!"

The voice sounded like a hallucination in her ears, and Linda looked up in disbelief.

Across the round table, a girl with long, fiery red hair and a somewhat youthful and innocent look on her face held a large oak wine glass and tilted her head, looking at him strangely.

"Hey? Brother Linda is already tired? What a weakling!"

Chrona held the cup in both hands, her snow-white feet stretched out under the table, swinging back and forth like a swing, and giggled.

"How about I cook next time?" Ai Ke's tone was a little worried, as if she felt a little bad about letting Linda cook every time.

"Brother?" Lin Xi, a delicate girl with long, soft black hair, was also looking at him with concern.

Linda's gaze lingered on her for a long time.

But today's protagonist is not Lin Xi.

Linda thought about it, and what happened back then was...

If I remember correctly, today was the day we failed to conquer the second level of the World Tree. Our luck was terrible; we randomly got a dungeon that was extremely incompatible with the Snow Goose Adventure Team. And someone wouldn't listen to commands, got separated from the team, and rushed into the monster's lair. If it weren't for the return scrolls, the entire Snow Goose Adventure Team would have been wiped out.

It was from this painful lesson on the second floor that Linda developed the habit of collecting magic potions.

At his insistence, the team must now be at a level higher than the official recommended level of the Adventurers' Guild for the corresponding level, be proficient in the boss fights of each random map, and be able to clear the map 100% before he will allow the team to attempt a new level.
