Chapter 22 Linda's Three Skill Trees

When Linda first arrived in White Dove City, she often spent time in the library and had a general understanding of witches. The contract in the game, when applied to reality, becomes 'a girl with a strong, special desire, seduced by the Demon King's whispers, signing a contract with her soul as the price.'

In other words, witches are subordinates of the Demon King, and are cursed beings.

Wherever they went, cities were destroyed and corpses littered the ground.

Witches who reach the end of their lives will transform into 'fallen beasts', causing horrific disasters.

Purifying this monster was no easy task for Linda, who was only level 0.

"What skill did you use?" Kaphni asked nervously, noticing his strange expression.

Linda told the truth.

"What, Purify the Witch? What good is that? It's not even as good as the most common legendary skill like [Magic Blessing]."

Kaphni was dumbfounded. She had spent all her divine contribution points to get such a useless skill.

She heard from her predecessors that some heroes were so lucky that they could unlock legendary skills like 'ten times the attack' or 'half the magic consumption'.

How come it's their own hero's turn to be so wicked...?

Kaphni once again fell into pessimism regarding how to save the Secret Realm.

"Actually, this skill isn't that bad."

Linda pondered for a moment, then opened the steaming pork chop rice bowl and said, "Perhaps we can use this skill to try and turn the witch against us."

"Turning them to defect?" Kaphni listlessly ate the eel rice, feeling that the supposedly luxurious taste in her mouth was like chewing wax.

“Yes,” Linda said. “Think about it, witches are forced to become the Demon King’s servants, right? Unlike the Demon King’s army, who are willing to serve and are brainwashed from birth, witches submit to the Demon King out of necessity. So one thing is certain: they are not as loyal to the Demon King as demons.”

“That’s correct.” Kaphni nodded in agreement.

Linda snapped her fingers. "That's when the legendary skill, Witch Purification, comes into play. If we can forcibly break the contract between the witch and the Demon King, wouldn't that be equivalent to saving their lives? At that time, they would naturally no longer need to be loyal to the Demon King, and might even join the hero's camp because of it."

"Hmm, that makes sense." Kaphni's eyes lit up, and she forgot to eat. "With this shift in power, even if the Demon King breaks free from his seal and awakens, he'll be a weakling! Well then, let's not delay, let's go find the witch to purify him now!"

Fortunately, she possesses a trace of divine power, which allows her to detect witches—groups with the power of a demon king—once they get close enough to her; she's practically a human radar.

She'll be in charge of finding them, and Linda will be in charge of purifying them. Once they've gathered ten chariots of witches, they can directly defeat the Demon King!

Kaphni imagined the wonderful future and couldn't help but burst into laughter with her hands on her hips.

Linda, however, remained seated calmly on the sofa. He glanced at the enthusiastic Kaphni and said:

"What are you thinking? The witch is wanted by the empire and no one knows where she is hiding. How could we find her so easily? And even if we did find her, she might not trust me and open her heart to me for purification."

The prerequisite for a witch's purification is a high level of trust in the other party, followed by physical contact. The higher the level of trust and the deeper the contact, the more thorough the purification.

But these days, even touching a girl's hand can get you reported to law enforcement. Touching a witch would probably be even riskier, right?

Those witches who can hear the Demon King's whispers and are bewitched are mostly psychologically unstable. Getting reported to the law enforcement agency is the least of their worries; they might even lose their lives.

Linda absolutely does not want to meet the witches of this world before she raises her level.

After hearing this, Kaphni immediately shut up: "After all that talk, isn't it still just a useless skill?"

"There's always a way. If all else fails, we can beat them into submission, tie them up, and purify them."

Linda shrugged.

He lowered his head to enjoy his pork chop rice, and casually opened his personal panel - skill tree page.

Currently, this skill tree has three main branches: the healing branch, the poison branch, and the dark, somewhat indistinct witch branch.

The effects of the witch-type skills are currently unknown, but the poison-type skills are mainly focused on high sustained damage.

The first tier of the Poison skill tree already has purple-rare skill slots, and above that are a whole bunch of orange, red, and several gold legendary skills.

Compared to ordinary healers, the latter's skills in the first tier of their skill tree are all at the white, ordinary level.

The level 20 ultimate skill 'Healing Rain' is barely a purple-rarity skill.

Although Linda started from level 0, his combat power will increase more than tenfold when he returns to level 15.

"After you get the certificate to leave the team, go out and farm some slimes in the wild. Your level is too low right now, and you don't have a single skill point."

Linda thought to herself.

Skill points are needed to upgrade skills. He is currently level 0 and has 0 skill points.

The only active skill she possesses is 'Witch Purification,' which has no offensive power; she relies entirely on melee combat with an initial strength attribute of 15.

After swallowing the last bite of pork chop rice, Linda said contentedly, "I've finished eating. Let's start cleaning the house."

He grabbed Kaphni, who wanted to go to sleep, with a warm smile on his face.

It was already late at night when I finished my work.

The entire house, which had been covered in dust, was transformed and looked brand new.

During their break, since there was only one bedroom and one bed in the rented room, Linda and Kaphni argued about who should sleep in the bed.

"You damned hero, you bastard! Sooner or later, I'll..."

With several bags on her head, Kaphni curled up on the sofa, her face full of hatred. She was wrapped in a blanket, and tears of resentment streamed from her eyes.

Linda's fists were too big and too hard; she could bring Linda to near death in just a few blows.

Unable to bear the humiliation, Kaphni had no choice but to obediently give up the bed.

In the bedroom.

Linda rested her head on her arm, staring blankly at the ceiling, feeling a little unreal.

He actually fulfilled his wish of 'sleeping in a bed in a rented room'. When he lived here before, as the only male in the group, he was naturally relegated to the sofa.

Back then, he often wondered just how comfortable it must be to lie on that bed in the bedroom.

Now that I've finally fulfilled this unfulfilled wish, I'm not as excited as I initially thought.

Indeed, time and circumstances greatly influence a person's mindset. After her sister's disappearance, Linda's personal desires diminished, and she had little interest in anything other than studying the World Tree.

He remembered that Lin Xi liked to sleep in the innermost spot, so he unconsciously moved closer and sniffed around, as if he could smell a bit of his sister's scent.

Linda fumbled in the darkness and pulled out her pocket watch. The white jade-like dial emitted a faint light, illuminating the photo of the two people inside the watch case.

How did Lin Xi disappear into the World Tree? Who secretly delivered her pocket watch to his desk? Lin Da often thought about this when he couldn't sleep at night, but after three years he still had no clue.
