"Suspect?"
"Hmm, I suspect that someone may have tampered with our memories?"
Was the final battle before the Demon King's castle decades ago real?
Anna's words startled Leah.
"We are all legends, who can tamper with our memories?"
Leah felt that she was being a bit extreme.
“Speaking of which, Aike, Linxi, and Bailu, have you noticed that none of you are married?”
Anna seemed thoughtful: "Even you. You must have had quite a few adventurers pursuing you, so why didn't you agree to date them?"
Leah was stumped by the question.
She had never considered it.
"I hadn't thought about that."
“The strangest one is Echo. She’s very good at attracting men, and even one of the four new dukes is her admirer.” Anna tilted her head. “But Echo is not married.”
Leah: "Maybe everyone's waiting."
Anna said with a smile, "I just don't know what everyone is waiting for."
Leah fell into deep thought.
Yeah, what are we waiting for?
The two stared at each other, wide-eyed.
They couldn't explain it at all.
In the evening, Leah returned to her suburban mansion.
The conversation with Anna was like a small ripple in the water, quickly dissipating.
Life returned to normal.
And so, an unknown amount of time passed.
Leah lived her days in a daze.
Suddenly one day.
She felt the magic draining from her body, and her body became weak; her unfolded wings of light were as transparent as if they were transparent.
Leah felt calm, even somewhat relieved.
That morning, she put on her new clothes for the first time in a long time, watered the flowers and plants in the yard, and wiped the furniture in the house. Then she sat in front of the bed and opened the small cabinet that had been gathering dust for a long time.
A yellowed photo album lies quietly inside.
The photo album holds her memories from her youth.
She wanted to remember everyone's face.
Leah flipped through the photo album, lost in the past.
In one of the photos, Chrona is barefoot, reclining on a sofa while holding a Magical Handheld Game Player, with potato chip crumbs all over her mouth.
"You really can't tell she's a famous comic book creator," Leah exclaimed.
In the second photo, Ike's face is covered in cucumber slices as she sits in a wheelchair sunbathing.
"He pretended to be lame at first; he was a liar."
The third photo is a group photo of the Snow Goose Adventure Team on the grassland after clearing the fifth level of the World Tree.
"I felt even happier then than when I passed the 40th floor."
Leah continued turning the page.
I found something strange in the photo album.
"A pocket watch?" (P.S.: Just to prevent some people from thinking it's a deus ex machina, the protagonist took out a pocket watch around chapter 10.)
Leah frowned.
She had no recollection of putting such a thing in her photo album.
I picked it up out of curiosity.
The watch case looks like brass, but it feels brittle and will bleed color if you scratch it with your hand.
What material is this made of?
Leah had never seen anything so strange.
Open the pocket watch; the hands inside had long since stopped moving. Inside the lid was a small, round photograph.
The background of the photo is a shop with neon signs bearing incomprehensible characters, numerous strokes, resembling scribbles.
Lia wondered, could it be some kind of magical rune?
In front of the shop, a man and a woman dressed in strange clothes stood. The girl was sitting in a wheelchair making a peace sign with her fingers, while the boy had a peaceful smile on his face.
Liya recognized the girl in the photo; she was Lin Xi, a former teammate of Xueyan.
But who is the man?
Ultimately, these are Lin Xi's personal belongings, so why are they in her own closet?
Who put it in?
"—Tomorrow is the final battle. If I don't come back, you can keep it as a souvenir."
A chaotic scene flashed before Leah's eyes.
That suffocating feeling of being unable to breathe returned to my body.
The hissing noises were like a curse, giving her a terrible headache.
In a fleeting glimpse, Leah sees the man sitting wearily at a table, saying, "I'm leaving the team."
On a dark street, the Snow Goose Adventure Team returned from the seventh floor. She was wearing an eye patch when she met the other person.
"The one who can't let go of the past is you, Leah."
In the Dragon Forest, she collapsed to the ground while trying to escape the pursuit of the Moon-rank adventurer, Fox.
"You're awake?"
A bowl of hot soup is placed in front of you.
What happened?
Looking at the photo in the pocket watch, tears uncontrollably streamed down Leah's face.
Her head was getting increasingly painful.
Memories of "that person" came rushing in like a flood bursting its banks.
His presence can be seen in every adventure.
Together they formed the Snow Goose Adventure Team, going from parting ways to reconciling, and then entering the Demon King's Castle side by side to participate in the final battle.
He exists in every place.
But why can't I remember?
I've even forgotten his name.
Leah's vision gradually blurred with tears.
"Linda."
She unconsciously uttered a name that was missing from her memory.
Knock knock!
Knock knock knock!
Outside the window, a bright green bird was hitting the glass with all its might.
Its eyes are an eerie blood red, and its sharp beak is like a swift knife, capable of shattering glass in a few strokes.
The emerald green bird stared at Leah with a ferocious expression.
Damn brat, die! Die!
It roared hysterically inside.
He thought he had erased everything about the hero and successfully taken control of the scales of victory.
But who could have imagined that something, not from this world, would slip through the net?
This girl must be killed and the pocket watch destroyed!
