Chapter 10 Contract Accomplished
Su Wanqing squinted at the source of the red light—dark red lines appeared at the location of the chip on the back of Lin Che’s neck, like the burn marks of a melted electronic lock.
The boy covered his neck and fell to his knees, his canine teeth biting his lower lip and letting out an unbearable whimper.
"Don't move." The tip of the knife opened his wet collar, and Su Wanqing stared at the blood vessels wriggling under his skin. "Didn't your mentor teach you how to be a pet?"
The red light revealed the unhealed pinholes below his collarbone, arranged in radiating scars.
Lin Che suddenly grabbed her trouser leg and spoke in French mixed with tears: "Arrêtez" The back of the knife hit the old wound on the back of his hand, and Su Wanqing crushed the ice crystals that had just condensed on his fingertips, "Speak human language."
Thunder rolled over the water tank on the roof, and the noise of heavy rain hitting the iron sheets drowned out the commotion downstairs.
The boy's Adam's apple rolled several times, and his eyelashes covered with mud drooped: "Sister." The tail sound was cut off by a cough, and the red light suddenly surged into a light cocoon that wrapped around the two of them.
Su Wanqing grabbed the boy by the collar and pulled him forward. The holographic screen that popped up from the jade bracelet flashed an encrypted file: [Central nervous system inhibitor of subject 0927 released].
Lin Che's pupils shrank into vertical lines, and the blood vessels under his skin bulged and kept wriggling, as if something was escaping under his skin.
"Bear with it." Su Wanqing took out a high-voltage electric shock device from the space, tore off the bandage on his back and pressed it on the joint of the spine.
The sound of electric current mixed with the smell of burning flesh exploded, and the boy let out a beast-like growl from his throat, and his nails dug into the iron mesh, creating sparks.
The symbol that emerged from the red light looked like an inverted cross, with tentacles like electronic circuits extending from the edges.
Su Wanqing couldn't help but frown as she stared at the symbol. This pattern appeared in the nests of all mutants in the third month of the apocalypse - at that time, she was so hungry that she gnawed on the wall and huddled in the ruins to watch the plunderers worship the totem.
Lin Che suddenly twitched violently and bit his wrist to suppress a scream.
Su Wanqing pulled out the broken glass that he had hidden around his waist and poked it into the acupuncture point on the outside of his thigh.
As the boy collapsed, the red symbol suddenly broke into electronic dust.
"Where is the explosives for Subject No. 7 buried?" Su Wanqing slapped the boy's cheek with the back of the knife, and raised his chin with the tip of her shoe. "Southeast corner of the basement?"
Lin Che's dilated pupils refocused, and blue blood flowed from his nostrils to the depression of his collarbone.
The sirens in the distance were drowned out by the thunderstorm, as if someone had strangled them by the throat.
Su Wanqing pulled the man up by his silver hair and said, "Lead the way." Lin Che staggered two steps and grabbed the fire escape ladder. The torn hole in his tactical pants revealed the bleeding gauze.
When going downstairs, she ran into an empty can rolling out of Room 401. Su Wanqing kicked the box open, and the sound of the metal rolling echoed in the corridor.
Lin Che suddenly grabbed the corner of her clothes and stared at the black blood oozing out of the crack of the fire door: "There is something"
The moment the Tang sword chopped open the door lock, the mountain of rotten corpses collapsed.
Su Wanqing pushed the boy forward to block the flying maggots, "Your kind?"
The red light on the back of Lin Che's neck reflected the military license plate in the pile of corpses, with "0926" engraved on the metal surface.
"Subject No. 3," the boy said in a hoarse voice like sandpaper, "escaped last month."
Su Wanqing used the tip of the knife to pick up the military badge and stuffed it into his pocket, "Remember to collect the bodies of your comrades next time."
When Lin Che turned the corner of the stairs, he suddenly froze. From below came the sound of chains being dragged, mixed with the crisp sound of wild animals gnawing on bones.
Su Wanqing took out half a piece of moldy compressed biscuit and threw it over. The mutant dog growled and pounced on the food.
"Explosives." The Tang sword was pressed against the boy's lower back, and Su Wanqing heard the sound of her Adam's apple rolling.
In her previous life, she had seen Subject No. 7 self-destruct when she was starving. The fire illuminated the raider camp in half of the city.
Lin Che suddenly grabbed her wrist and pressed it against his chest. The raised metal outline under her skin pressed against his palm.
"Remote control," the boy said in a trembling French voice, "It's under the third bone of the left rib."
Su Wanqing tore off his blood-soaked bandage and saw a micro device flashing red light under the skin.
The jade bracelet popped up a warning: [Disabling the vital signs monitor will trigger an alarm].
She took out a scalpel and pointed at the boy's ribs, "Bear with it."
The moment the tip of the knife pierced his flesh, Lin Che bit his wrist without making a sound.
Blue blood spurted out from the scalpel's blood groove and splattered onto the wall, overlapping with the bloody handprint left by some unlucky guy before.
The entire building suddenly buzzed as the alarm was picked out.
"run!"
Su Wanqing grabbed the boy's collar and pushed open the door to the emergency passage. Behind them, there was a loud noise of the load-bearing wall collapsing, and the thick smoke from the fire on the seventh floor poured into the corridor through the cracks.
Lin Che limped to the distribution box, cut off two sparking wires and pressed them on the alarm.
The buzzing sound turned into a sharp electronic sound, and the voice-controlled lights on the entire floor exploded at the same time.
Something broke through the window in the darkness and rushed in. Su Wanqing swung out her Tang sword with the sound of the wind. When the blade got stuck into the mutant's cervical vertebrae, she saw Lin Che tearing the sutures on his arm with his teeth.
"court death?"
The young man spat out the hot metal piece, "There are still thirty seconds."
Su Wanqing pulled him and rolled into the elevator shaft. From above, they heard the vibration of something heavy smashing through the floor.
The moment the wire rope broke, she grabbed the hanging cable and threw herself to the vent on the next level.
Lin Che coughed up blue blood when he hit the iron fence, but his fingers were tightly gripping the straps of Su Wanqing's tactical vest.
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
The barking of zombie dogs could be heard from below, and dense red dots lit up deep in the ventilation duct.
"Dynamite!"
The boy suddenly tore open the sutures on his collarbone, pulled out the microcapsule and stuffed it into her palm.
Su Wanqing crushed the capsule shell and sprinkled the black powder into the vent.
When the blast blew away the pursuing mutants, she saw a blue flame igniting where the powder touched.
"A gift from the research institute?"
“Birthday present.” Lin Che curled up in the corner of the pipe, the whip marks on his back bleeding through his wet shirt. “Last Christmas.”
The jade bracelet suddenly vibrated, and the holographic map showed that the laboratory on the seventh floor was marked in red.
Su Wanqing stepped on the blue fire on the boy's trouser legs and said, "Lead the way or feed the dogs?"
Lin Che wiped the blue blood from the corner of her mouth, and her vertical pupils under her silver hair reflected the movement of her wiping the knife.
"Behind the drainpipe in the southeast corner."
When they climbed into the lab, they found half of the researcher's body frozen in the freezer.
Su Wanqing pried open experimental box No. 7, and a yellowed note was stuck on the bundles of C4 explosives: [0927 Work].
"Did your mentor teach you?"
The "self-taught" boy suddenly snatched the explosive pack and bit the fuse device with his teeth. "They used me for scent tracking experiments."
The landlord's curses could be heard downstairs, and the bald man was directing the survivors to move the furniture that was blocking the door.
Su Wanqing stuffed the explosives into the ventilation duct and said, "This is a great gift for your former colleagues."
The moment the detonator was pressed, Lin Che suddenly said something in French.
Su Wanqing pulled him into the fire escape, and the fireball rising behind him engulfed the entire laboratory floor.
When the gust of air blew them away and crashed into the stair railing, the boy put his arm behind her neck to block the iron railing.
"What did you just say?"
“Happy birthday.” Lin Che covered his broken wrist and shrank into the shadows, “Sister.”
A new prompt pops up on the holographic screen: [Loyalty increased to 53%].
Su Wanqing awkwardly opened his mouth and stuffed half a compressed biscuit into it, "It's ugly."
