Chapter 23 The Wounded Hero 2

Chapter 23 The Wounded Hero 2

"Are you okay?" Su Wanqing asked Xiao Ran with concern while driving.

Xiao Ran looked down at his arm, blood still gushing out: "It's okay, just a superficial wound."

Su Wanqing frowned: "Don't be stubborn, the wound is very deep."

"I've seen worse." Xiao Ran tried to smile, but his expression was distorted by pain. "Take care of the little girl first."

The little girl huddled in the corner, looking at Xiao Ran with tears in her eyes: "Uncle, you are hurt."

Xiao Ran turned around and gave the little girl a reassuring smile: "It's okay, it's just a minor injury. What's your name?"

"Ding Ding." The little girl replied in a low voice, "Where's my mother?"

"Your mother may have gone to look for you." Su Wanqing said gently, "We will help you find her."

Aze leaned out from the back seat and checked Xiao Ran's wound: "The injury is serious and needs treatment."

"Let's find a safe place to park first." Xiao Ran said, his voice tense.

Su Wanqing nodded, drove attentively, and checked the rearview mirror from time to time to see if there were any pursuers behind her.

The city streets were empty, with only a few wandering zombies.

"There's a gas station over there." Aze pointed ahead, "It looks like there's no one there."

Su Wanqing drove the car into the gas station and parked in a secluded corner.

She turned off the engine and turned to Xiao Ran: "Let me see your wound."

Xiao Ran stretched out his arm, blood soaking through his sleeve. Su Wanqing carefully rolled up his sleeve, revealing a deep wound extending from the wrist to the elbow.

"Oh my god." Su Wanqing gasped, "This needs to be sutured."

"Do we have a medical kit?" Xiao Ran asked, his voice calm, as if he was discussing someone else's wound.

Su Wanqing took out the medical supplies she found at the convenience store from her backpack: "There are some basic ones. Aze, can you help?"

Aze nodded, stretched out his hand, and controlled the moisture in the air to form a thin film on Xiao Ran's wound: "This can temporarily stop the bleeding."

The little girl Ding Ding climbed from the back seat to the front and looked at Xiao Ran timidly: "Uncle, you got hurt because you saved me."

Xiao Ran patted her head: "It's okay, little one. As long as you are safe."

Ding Ding suddenly threw himself on Xiao Ran, hugged his legs tightly, and burst into tears: "Thank you uncle! Thank you uncle for saving me!"

Xiao Ran felt a little embarrassed and didn't know how to comfort the crying child.

He patted Ding Ding's back: "Okay, okay, don't cry anymore."

"My mom told me I shouldn't run around," Ding Ding sobbed, "but I saw a kitten and followed it. Then I couldn't find my mom."

"Your mother must be very worried about you." Su Wanqing said gently while cleaning Xiao Ran's wound, "Don't be afraid, we will help you find her."

Ding Ding nodded, tears still flowing: "Mom said to go to the shelter in the west end."

Aze frowned, "Is there a shelter set up by the military?"

"Yeah." Ding Ding wiped his tears, "Mom said there is food and a place to stay there."

Xiao Ran and Su Wanqing exchanged glances. A shelter meant safety, but it also meant that there were many people and eyes, and there might be people from the research institute.

"We can send Ding Ding to the shelter first, and then decide on the next step." Su Wanqing whispered to Xiao Ran.

Xiao Ran nodded, but frowned: "If someone from the research institute is there."

"We can send her far away instead of going in." Su Wanqing said, "At least we can make sure she is safe."

Ah Ze had been listening in silence, and suddenly spoke up: "I can feel that Lin Che is coming back."

Su Wanqing and Xiao Ran both turned to him. Aze's expression became painful, and he held his head with both hands: "The effect of the suppressor is weakening. I can't hold on for much longer."

"What do you need?" Su Wanqing asked anxiously.

Aze shook his head: "It's not that I need anything, it's that Lin Che needs salt. A lot of salt. His blue blood concentration is decreasing."

Su Wanqing immediately took out the salt bag she had snatched from the convenience store from her backpack: "Is that enough?"

Aze took a look and nodded: "It's enough for now. But we need to find a place for him to transform quietly."

"There should be a rest room behind the gas station." Xiao Ran said, sitting up straight despite the pain, "We can wait there for him to recover."

Su Wanqing nodded and turned to Ding Ding: "Ding Ding, let's rest here for a while, okay? This uncle needs to treat his wound."

Ding Ding nodded obediently, but still held on to the corner of Xiao Ran's clothes tightly, unwilling to leave.

"Come on." Su Wanqing gently took Ding Ding's hand, "Let's find a place to rest."

The four of them got out of the car carefully and looked around vigilantly. The gas station was empty, with only a few abandoned vehicles and scattered garbage.

"Over there." Xiao Ran pointed to a small building behind the gas station. "It should be the employee lounge."

The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!

They moved quickly to the lounge door. It was locked, but Aze once again demonstrated his lock picking skills, and after a few seconds, the door lock clicked open.

The lounge is not large but has a sofa, a table and a small fridge.

Xiao Ran immediately checked the refrigerator and found several bottles of water and some packaged foods inside.

"We are lucky." He took out some water and food and put them on the table.

Su Wanqing asked Xiao Ran to sit on the sofa and began to treat his wound carefully.

"This is just a temporary solution," she said. "We need to find antibiotics and better medical equipment."

Xiao Ran nodded and looked at Ding Ding. The little girl had stopped crying and was looking curiously at Aze, who was sitting in the corner with a painful expression.

"What's wrong with him?" Tintin asked in a low voice.

"He's feeling a little uncomfortable." Xiao Ran explained simply, "He'll be fine soon."

Tintin seemed to accept this explanation and asked, "When are we going to go find mom?"

"Soon." Xiao Ran comforted her, "We need to rest for a while, and then we'll go to the West District to find your mother."

Ding Ding nodded, hope flashing in his eyes: "Mom must be very worried about me."

"Yes, she must be very worried." Xiao Ran touched her head, "So you have to be good, so that we can find her quickly."

Ding Ding nodded solemnly, then climbed onto the sofa and sat next to Xiao Ran.

She carefully avoided his wounds, but still stayed close, as if this gave her a sense of security.

After Su Wanqing bandaged Xiao Ran's wound, she turned to Aze and asked, "Are you okay?"

Ah Ze shook his head, his collar soaked with sweat: "Not so good. Lin Che is probably really coming back. I can feel it."

"What do you need us to do?" Su Wanqing asked.

"Salt." Aze said with difficulty, "Give him the salt. And... tell him what I said. Tell him that the Spark Project has been launched and he needs to find the other six element holders."

Su Wanqing nodded: "I'll tell him."

Aze's breathing became rapid, and his hands tightly grasped the armrests of the chair: "Also. Tell him. Don't trust anyone except you. People from the institute are everywhere."

His voice became weaker and weaker until it was almost inaudible. Then, his body suddenly relaxed and his head dropped.
