Chapter 28 Shelter Proposal 3
Xiao Ran sat up from the bed and gently moved his shoulders and arms.
Under the effect of antibiotics, the pain from his wound has been greatly relieved.
He looked around and confirmed that Lin Che and Ding Ding were still asleep, while Su Wanqing was leaning on the sofa with a book in her hands.
"How was your rest?" Su Wanqing asked without raising her head.
"Better than I expected," Xiao Ran replied, "Your antibiotics are very effective."
Su Wanqing closed the book and looked at him. "That's a special version provided by the military, not an ordinary drug that can be bought on the market."
Xiao Ran raised an eyebrow. "Another thing that doesn't quite fit the identity of a medical researcher."
Su Wanqing smiled slightly. "Some things are best kept secret."
“Maybe.” Xiao Ran stood up and walked to the sink, washing his face with cold water. “How is Lin Che?”
"Still resting," Su Wanqing replied, "It will take time to recover from the effects of the suppressor."
Xiao Ran leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed. "I need to confirm our agreement. You want me to help you find Lin Che's secret and assist you in dealing with the dangers that follow. In exchange, you will provide shelter and help me find my sister. Correct?"
"Yes," Su Wanqing nodded, "as long as you follow your part, I will follow mine."
"Then I need you to make one thing clear," Xiao Ran's tone became serious, "If our goals conflict, if what you are looking for conflicts with my sister's safety, I will give priority to the latter."
Su Wanqing looked him straight in the eye. "I understand. Family is important to you. But I hope this won't happen."
"I hope so," Xiao Ran said, "but in this world, things rarely go as hoped."
Su Wanqing stood up and walked to the window. "The space shelter can last for a few hours. We should use this time to make a detailed plan."
"I agree," Xiao Ran said, "First, we need to determine the specific location and situation of the West District Shelter. Second, we need to understand the layout and possible dangers of that abandoned research institute."
Su Wanqing turned to face him. "Lin Che - or Aze - should know this information. But we need to wait until he wakes up."
Xiao Ran nodded, then looked at Ding Ding. "She is a strong child. Not every adult can remain calm in such a situation."
"She is very special," Su Wanqing agreed, "We must protect her."
Xiao Ran's expression softened. "Yes, we must."
At this moment, Lin Che began to stir on the sofa, moaning softly.
Su Wanqing immediately walked over to him and checked his condition.
“Lin Che?” she called softly.
Lin Che slowly opened his eyes, his eyes confused. "Sister?" His voice was weak and a little confused.
"It's me," Su Wanqing replied, "How do you feel?"
Lin Che tried to sit up, but was obviously still very weak. "My head hurts, and I'm thirsty."
"You need salt," Su Wanqing said, taking a small bag of salt from her pocket, "take your time, don't eat too much at once."
Lin Che gratefully took the salt bag and carefully licked a handful. His expression immediately became more relaxed.
"Aze showed up?" he asked, with a hint of worry in his voice.
"Yes," Su Wanqing nodded, "He told us something about the abandoned research institute."
Lin Che lowered his head, as if trying to recall. "I remember some fragments. That place was scary. There were experiments, screams, and..."
He suddenly stopped, his expression becoming painful. "The inhibitor started working again. Every time I try to remember, it interferes with my thinking."
Su Wanqing put her hand on his shoulder. "Don't force yourself. The memory will slowly return. Now you need to rest and recover your strength."
Lin Che nodded and continued to eat salt in small bites. Xiao Ran came over and observed the scene.
"You guys are really peculiar," he commented, "One of you has spatial abilities, and one of you has water abilities and a dual personality. What on earth are you researching at the institute?"
“Channel,” Lin Che suddenly said, her voice low but clear, “What Aze just said is true. They are trying to create some kind of channel.”
"Where does the passage lead to?" Su Wanqing asked.
Lin Che's eyes lost focus, and seemed to be looking into the distance. "Not sure. But they need us. They need element holders. Our energy is the key to open the passage."
"Element holder?" Xiao Ran repeated, "Like the water, fire, wind, and earth in the ancient element theory?"
"There are also gold, wood, and light," Lin Che added, "Seven elements, seven holders. I am the holder of water, and your sister is the holder of fire."
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
Xiao Ran's expression turned serious. "So they arrested my sister because she is an element holder?"
Lin Che nodded. "Yes. They need to gather all seven holders to open the channel."
"But why do we need to open the channel? What is on the other side of the channel?" Su Wanqing asked.
Lin Che shook her head. "I don't know. This part of the memory is locked by the inhibitor. But it must be something very important, so important that they are willing to conduct so many dangerous experiments on us."
The room fell silent as everyone pondered the implications of this new information.
Lin Che continued to eat the salt in small sips, and his complexion gradually recovered.
"I think we have to go to that abandoned research institute," Xiao Ran finally broke the silence, "If that's where the Fire Seed Project originated, there might be information about element holders and channels."
"I agree," Su Wanqing nodded, "but first, we need to get Ding Ding to a safe place."
Lin Che looked at the sleeping Ding Ding. "Is she an ordinary person? Not a superpower?"
"As far as I know, yes," Xiao Ran replied, "Why do you ask?"
“I just thought that if the research institute is looking for people with special abilities, especially those with elemental powers, then ordinary people might be relatively safer,” Lin Che explained.
Su Wanqing seemed to be thinking about it. "You are right. But we still have to ensure the safety of the shelter. Danger is everywhere."
"We need a careful plan," Xiao Ran said, "Once we leave this space shelter, we will face various dangers. Mutants, people from the research institute, and possibly other threats."
"Let's discuss this matter later. Let's fix it now," said Su Wanqing.
After saying this, Xiao Ran walked back to his bed. Ding Ding was still sleeping soundly, and the expression on his little face was much calmer.
Lin Che leaned back on the sofa and closed her eyes, seeming to be trying to sort out her shattered memories.
Su Wanqing returned to the window, looked at the imaginary scenery in the space, and thought about her next actions.
