Chapter 49 Finding an Escape Route
"Hurry, check if there are any other exits!" Su Wanqing's voice was trembling. She tightly grasped the backpack containing important information in her space ability and tried to calm herself down.
The sirens were deafening, as if announcing the danger they were about to face.
Lu Zhao's fingers slid rapidly across the console screen, quickly browsing through the complex floor plans.
"The emergency exits of the entire area are blocked, and there are only ventilation ducts that can barely accommodate one person."
He looked up, his face somewhat serious, "But I can't be sure where the other end of the pipe leads to."
"Ventilation duct?" Xiao Ran frowned. His warrior's instinct made him wary of such a small and dark place.
"That place is definitely not safe. There might be guards lying in ambush, or it might be blocked by something. Then we'll be trapped like a turtle in a jar."
Lin Che walked to the corner, pushed aside the pile of discarded equipment and scattered documents, revealing a dark pipe opening.
He shone the flashlight inside. The interior of the tunnel was narrow and dark, barely enough for one person to crawl forward.
"It appears that the pipe is still intact, but it is narrow and may be full of dust and debris."
Su Wanqing walked over to Lin Che and carefully observed the entrance of the duct. "The structure of this ventilation duct seems unreasonable. It seems to have been deliberately hidden."
She took out a telescope and observed the structure inside the pipe. "The pipe has many bends and the distance is not short."
"In short, we must find an escape route as soon as possible."
Lu Zhao closed his computer. "The current situation does not allow us to have many options. We should first take shelter in the ventilation ducts and then look for opportunities."
"Okay." Xiao Ran nodded. He knew that Lu Zhao was right. The most important thing at the moment was survival. He should first stay away from this dangerous control room.
"Let's act now. I'll cover the rear and make sure no one attacks us by surprise."
“I’ll explore the way first.” Lin Che said, bending down and entering the ventilation duct without hesitation.
He was agile and moved quickly, and soon disappeared into the depths of the dark pipe.
“Lin Che, be careful!” Su Wanqing shouted, her tone filled with worry.
“Don’t worry, I will be careful about my safety.” Lin Che’s voice came from the pipe, sounding a little suppressed.
Su Wanqing took a deep breath, adjusted her backpack, followed Lin Che, and carefully entered the ventilation duct.
The inside of the pipe was indeed narrow and dark. She could only crawl forward, supporting herself with her hands on the cold metal wall, moving her body with difficulty.
"What are the spatial powers?" Lu Zhao followed behind Su Wanqing and asked softly.
"The most important information is all here, as well as some first aid supplies and compressed biscuits."
Su Wanqing replied, her voice becoming somewhat subdued, "I hope it will be useful."
Lu Zhao nodded. He knew that Su Wanqing’s spatial ability was very practical. It could store a large amount of supplies and save their lives at critical moments.
"Is there any water?"
"Yes, I have prepared enough kettles." Lin Che's voice came again, "Everyone, please save some water."
Xiao Ran finally got into the ventilation duct. He carried an assault rifle on his back and stuck close to the duct wall, looking behind him vigilantly to prevent possible enemies from chasing him.
"Be careful, you may encounter danger at any time."
The inside of the ventilation duct was narrow and dim, and the air was filled with a long-stolen musty smell.
They could only rely on the weak light provided by the flashlight and move forward carefully.
The twists and turns of the pipes make people lose their way, as if they have entered a huge maze.
After walking for about ten minutes, Lin Che suddenly stopped. "There's a fork in the road ahead."
His voice was hesitant. “Both pipes lead in different directions. I don’t know which way to go.”
"Let me see." Lu Zhao took out a flashlight from his backpack and rushed to the fork in the road.
He carefully observed the direction of the two pipes and used a computer to connect to the nuclear power plant's ventilation system, trying to find a layout diagram of the system.
"The pipeline runs relatively southward and appears to lead to an abandoned storage room."
Lu Zhao pointed to the pipe on the left and said, "This pipe leads to a control center, but there may be guards stationed there."
"The storage room in the south? Is there anything there?" Su Wanqing asked.
"According to the map, there are some spare supplies and equipment stored there, but I can't be sure what exactly they are."
Lu Zhao replied, "But it should be safer there than the control center."
"How about this, let's choose the pipeline in the south first and see if we can find something useful."
Xiao Ran suggested, "If it really doesn't work, let's try another route."
"Okay." Lu Zhao nodded, "We'll take the pipeline to the south. Everyone be careful."
They continued to move forward along the southern pipeline. The dust inside the pipeline became thicker and thicker, and the air became more and more polluted.

Su Wanqing felt that she was having difficulty breathing. She covered her mouth and nose tightly and tried hard to maintain her body balance.
"What should we do now?" Su Wanqing asked in a low voice, her voice a little weak.
"We have to find a safe place as soon as possible."
Lu Zhao replied, "I hope this ventilation system is not completely controlled by the enemy and we can use it to escape from here."
"What if the ventilation duct is blocked by the enemy?" Xiao Ran asked, his tone full of worry.
"In that case, we can only force our way in." Lu Zhao replied, "We can't just sit there and wait for death. We must fight for a chance of survival."
Lin Che suddenly stopped. "It seems like there's something blocking the way ahead." His voice was a little nervous.
"What is it?" Xiao Ran asked. He immediately raised the rifle in his hand and prepared for battle.
"It's a bunch of abandoned equipment and debris that blocked the pipes."
Lin Che replied, “We have to clean these things up before we can move on.”
“I’ll clean it up.” Xiao Ran said, walked to Lin Che, and began to dismantle the abandoned equipment with the rifle in his hand.
The sound of metal colliding echoed in the narrow pipe, sounding particularly harsh.
Su Wanqing and Lu Zhao were on guard at the side, always paying attention to the movements around them to prevent any enemies from suddenly appearing.
After some effort, Xiao Ran finally cleaned up the abandoned equipment and debris, and the pipeline was unblocked again.
"Okay, we can move on." Xiao Ran wiped the sweat from his forehead and said.
They continued to move along the pipeline, hoping to find a safe place as soon as possible and escape their current predicament.
"After we get out, we must hand over this evidence to a reliable scientific research institution."
Su Wanqing said, "We can't let those people continue to harm humanity."
"I agree." Lu Zhao nodded, "But we still need to find more direct evidence to reveal the truth. The evidence we have now is not sufficient."
"We must continue to investigate the conspiracy behind the virus," Xiao Ran said, "We must not let them succeed."
"We all agree." Lu Zhao nodded. "As long as it is for the future of mankind, we must pay any price."
