Chapter 263 Gene Repair Surgery

Huo Ran's surgery was much faster than Li Shu expected.

He assembled those genetic codes into a strange shape and then repaired them bit by bit.

Huo Ran would ask Li Shu to increase his energy from time to time. Fortunately, his energy level had now risen to level seven, otherwise he would not be able to master such a delicate surgical process.

About two hours later, Huo Ran cut off some of the wasted genes and began to suture Ke Luo's head.

Li Shu looked at the modified and removed genes for a few more times, feeling somewhat puzzled. He did not ask any questions, but felt a little doubtful.

After the operation was completed, Huo Ran's body swayed slightly and he almost couldn't stand.

This kind of gene repair surgery is a huge expense for any scientific and technical personnel, so Huo Ran is considered to be doing relatively well.

Li Shu paused and asked softly, "What are those genes that were removed?"

Huo Ran took off his mask and gloves and began to disinfect after the operation: "Some genes that cannot be repaired."

He looked a little hesitant: "You should know what these people are doing, right?"

"While they are researching how to turn ordinary people into star beasts, they are also researching how to transplant the genes of star beasts into humans to increase their lifespan."

What he said was rather implicit, but he was actually researching ways to achieve immortality.

Huo Ran said as he washed his hands: "I don't know if you understand the gene chain."

"When the gene chain is broken, the genetic function and growth and development ability inside it will be lost."

"So, the research direction of these people is to break the genetic chain of those star beasts that were originally capable of awakening."

"After the gene chain broke, the growth and development of the human part stopped, but the part belonging to the star beast is still functioning."

"They're hoping to find someone who can balance those two things."

"Then, we can replicate that gene chain as the parent gene chain, and continue researching and differentiating it generation after generation. One day, we will get results."

Li Shu glanced at the three children lying in the room, his expression not looking good: "So these are all failed experiments?"

"There's clearly something wrong with their genetic chain. Once it starts breaking, there's no way to stop it. Even the surgery I just witnessed couldn't halt this trend."

"You merely slowed down his breaking speed, then modified it a bit, seemingly accelerating his regeneration, barely maintaining his balance."

"Once they lose control of their emotions like they did before Lock Mist, this delicate balance will be disrupted. That's why there are genetic tranquilizers, right?"

Huo Ran turned his head to look at Li Shu, pursed his lips and nodded: "It's not quite accurate to say that they are failed test subjects. Compared to the many who are still there, they are already the lucky ones."

"At least they're still alive, right? There's still a chance they can be corrected."

"But I don't have any better way. I also want to try my best to save them all, but I...at least I can't do it now."

Li Shu suddenly bowed deeply to him: "I apologize for my disrespect yesterday. I thought too much."

"You are ahead of everyone else. You are the one who truly cares about humans and star beasts."

Huo Ran's smile was tinged with bitterness. "Even so, there's no way to erase the deeds of our Huo family's ancestors. If it weren't for us, perhaps there wouldn't be such a morbid existence as the Star Beast."

Li Shu shook his head. "Back then, genetic modification was the only hope for saving humanity. Even with all the mess that happened later, it couldn't erase its merits."

He held Huo Ran's hand and said, "Come to the Blue Star. We need you. Alice and Huo Aiyu need you too."

"Perhaps with your help, Chen Liang and the others will be able to better help these poor children."

Huo Ran's expression was still a little complicated, and he was hesitant, not knowing how to choose.

"Why would the Midnight Pirates choose this junk planet? It's so remote and has so few resources. I have a feeling their presence has something to do with K."

Li Shu pressed his temples, changed into new surgical gowns, and went in to start calming the next child.

"I actually have the same idea, but we have no evidence, or rather, he won't let us find evidence."

"Will tomorrow's free clinic still proceed as normal?"

Huo Ran nodded: "This is also what I find strange. Their purpose is really too vague."

The two did not continue the conversation and started operating on the next child.

After the operations on the three children were completed, Li Shu and Huo Ran seemed to be fished out of water.

As soon as she came out of the operating room, she couldn't help but fall into Howie's arms.

He rubbed against Howie's arms with some nostalgia, gave a forced smile, and then fell asleep in his arms.

Huo Wei looked up at his elder brother and Chu Feng, and without caring about taking care of them, he hurriedly said, "I'll take Li Shu back to rest first."

Then he left the basement.

Chu Feng supported Huo Ran and looked at him with some concern: "Boss, are you okay?"

Huo Ran waved his hands, too tired to talk anymore. He didn't even go upstairs, but fell into a deep sleep in the testing room next to him.

The three children had not yet woken up from anesthesia. Chu Feng went forward to check on their conditions, made a few notes, then closed the door of the ward and went to the next room to continue watching.

Li Shu slept until night. When he woke up, Huo Wei was lying beside him, patting his back.

"Are you awake? I was just thinking that if you don't wake up tomorrow, I won't participate in the free clinic volunteer."

Li Shu was a little helpless: "I'm just too tired, nothing is wrong."

"Those children..."

"Tsk, K is so abominable."

Huo Wei suddenly said, "I posted an anonymous message on Rose.com this afternoon."

Li Shu looked a little confused, and then he heard Huo Wei continue, "I've put up a reward for information about K and his whereabouts."

"The price is quite high, so we should be able to get a feel for the market trend."

"At the same time, I asked Su Peiyao to keep an eye on the situation here and notify me immediately if anyone inquires about the fake identity."

He gently tucked the quilt for Li Shu: "If K is behind this rose network, he will definitely investigate this identity."

"If it's not K, then we can only hope that someone else has found some clues."

Li Shu nodded and moved closer to his arms: "Be careful when you go to the free clinic tomorrow. I always feel anxious for no reason."
