Chapter 18 Mingzhou is mine, and only mine
At the Lin Group headquarters, Lin Jinyun stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
She looked quiet and noble, but the rapid rhythm of her fingertips revealed her inner anxiety.
Assistant Chen, her subordinate, stood a few steps away, nervously holding the documents in his hand, fearing that he would anger her.
"Are you sure?"
"Did Zhao Yang arrange it himself?"
"Yes, Mr. Lin," Assistant Chen replied carefully, "Mr. Zhao not only helped to set up the orphanage, but also set up a special fund to ensure the operation of the orphanage for the next ten years."
"This should be President Feng's instruction." Assistant Chen chose his words carefully. "Although President Zhao has connections in the industry, it would be impossible to mobilize so many resources in such a short period of time without the power of Feng Group."
Lin Jinyun's eyes flashed, and he grabbed the crystal ornament on the table and smashed it against the wall.
The crisp sound of shattering echoed in the office, and countless crystal fragments were scattered all over the floor.
"Useless! All useless!" She could no longer maintain her elegant image. "They can't even do such a simple thing!"
Assistant Chen took a step back in horror. He had never seen Miss Lin, who was always elegant and composed, lose her composure like this.
"I don't understand why you are so obsessed with that orphanage. That piece of land is not essential to our project..." Assistant Chen argued in a low voice.
"Shut up!" Lin Jinyun's eyes flashed with ruthlessness, "Do you think this is just about a piece of land?"
"Mingzhou is mine and can only be mine." Lin Jinyun's voice became low, with an almost morbid obsession.
Assistant Chen looked at the beautiful woman in front of him and suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
Lin Jinyun's face was pale, and his eyes were darker than ever before.
"Ask someone from the legal department to see me." Lin Jinyun suddenly regained her composure, as if the outburst just now was just an illusion. "Since Mingzhou likes to help her so much, I want to see how long he can help her."
She adjusted the corner of her clothes gracefully, but the sharpness in her eyes did not diminish in the slightest.
The crew of "Homeward Journey" has officially started filming for more than a week, and today's filming is the scene where the heroine first encounters the cat.
Gu Manman gently stroked Snowball's fur, and the white cat purred lazily in her arms. The lights from the studio shone down on Snowball, and his white fur almost glowed, just like what was described in the script - "a cloud that can breathe."
"This cat looks just like something out of a book!" The director's eyes lit up as he held the script. "There's no need to look for another cat."
Gu Manman smiled and said, "When I wrote this character, I was looking at Snowball. The way he sleeps, the way he eats, and even the way his fur stands up when he's angry are all in the book."
The assistant director came over and tried to touch Snowball curiously, but was glared at by it warily.
"Wow, this little guy is quite wary of strangers." The assistant retracted his hand, looking a little embarrassed.
"Don't be fooled by it," Gu Manman said with a smile, "it's just pretending to be cool, but it's actually very clingy."
The director clapped his hands and said, "Alright, let's get started! Mr. Gu, please hand the snowball over to the props team. Our first scene is the one where the heroine meets it."
Gu Manman nodded and whispered in Snowball's ear, "Be good and go to work." As if Snowball understood what his master said, he blinked his big blue eyes and actually followed the people from the props team obediently.
Snowball seemed to adapt to the environment on the set quickly and behaved particularly well in front of the camera.
When it curled up in the actress' arms, squinted its eyes and purred contentedly, the entire crew was melted by its cuteness.
"So cute!" The girl who supervised the show couldn't help but exclaim in a low voice.
Snowball tilted his head and looked around innocently.
The director excitedly praised him repeatedly: "Such eyes, such expressions, he is simply a natural actor!"
Snowball was amazingly adaptable to the camera; he knew when to curl up, when to pace, and even when the actress was crying, he would raise his little paws and pat the back of her hand.
A simple scene becomes particularly vivid and touching because of Snowball's performance.
During lunch break, Gu Manman found a quiet corner and let Snowball rest on the blanket.
She was about to get the script, but when she turned around, she saw Lin Jinyun standing there, her eyes fixed on Snowball.
"What a beautiful cat." Lin Jinyun's voice was still as sweet as honey, and she reached out to touch Snowball.
Snowball pricked up his ears alertly, took a few steps back, and arched his back slightly.
Lin Jinyun refused to give up and reached out his hand, and his fingertips touched Snowball's hair.
"I heard that Mingzhou gave it to you? I came here today to see it," Lin Jinyun's eyes turned cold, but her voice remained sweet, "How thoughtful, even the cat is so beautiful."
Lin Jinyun's hands suddenly tightened, and his nails almost dug into Snowball's fur.
Snowball let out a shrill scream and instinctively fought back, his claws scratching across the back of Lin Jinyun's hand.
Three bright red bloodstains immediately appeared on the fair skin.
Lin Jinyun screamed: "Ah!"
The crew members immediately gathered around and talked about Lin Jinyun's injuries.
Gu Manman quickly picked up the frightened Snowball, and when she saw that the fur on its neck was already disheveled, she felt so distressed that she almost cried.
"Ms. Lin, you were the one who hurt Snowball first."
Lin Jinyun, however, acted tolerant and generous: "It's okay, they are just little animals, they don't know much."
A cold light flashed in her eyes, and she turned to the director: "But for safety reasons, should this cat be temporarily isolated?"
The director looked embarrassed: "We haven't finished filming Snowball's scenes yet..."
Lin Jinyun smiled lightly: "Then continue, I'm not a stingy person."
The shooting continued in the afternoon, but Snowball seemed extremely anxious and unable to concentrate.
"Cut!" The director called a halt helplessly, "Take a break first, Snowball is in a bad mood."
Gu Manman was just about to take Snowball to a quiet place to rest when she suddenly heard a dog barking outside the set.
The sound was getting closer and more urgent.
Before she could react, a large Doberman Pinscher rushed onto the set and headed straight for Snowball.
The muscle lines of the Doberman looked particularly ferocious under the light, and its teeth sank deeply into Snowball's fragile neck, and blood dyed Snowball's white hair red. The set was in chaos.
"Snowball!" Gu Manman shouted hoarsely.
Several sturdy security guards rushed over from all directions. One of them picked up the long stick on the prop table, and another took off his coat and tried to put it on the Doberman's head. "Be careful! Don't hurt the cat!" The director shouted from behind.
The security guards worked together to surround the Doberman, one of them grabbed the dog's hind legs, and another tried to pry its mouth open. The Doberman growled angrily, but was eventually controlled.
Gu Manman knelt on the ground and took the dying Snowball with trembling hands.
Her tears fell on Snowball's bloodstained hair, and she was so heartbroken that she couldn't breathe.
Just then, Lin Jinyun came over in high heels, with a perfect expression of sadness on her face: "Oh my God, it's a pity that such a cute cat died."
Gu Manman looked up suddenly, her vision blurred by tears in her eyes, but she clearly saw the fleeting smile at the corner of Lin Jinyun's lips.
"It's not dead yet." Gu Manman hugged Snowball tightly, her voice low and firm, "It won't die."
Lin Jinyun looked down at her, with an undisguised smugness in her eyes: "I hope so. But such a serious injury..." She paused deliberately, looking at Gu Manman's painful expression, and then added softly: "What an accident, who would have thought that a dog would rush in?"
