Chapter 23 Thank Mr. Feng for his kindness, but I don’t need this

The hospital's procedures are cumbersome and cold.

Su Yu took over all these matters.

The funeral was scheduled for three days later. All the children from the orphanage came to attend the funeral. They were dressed neatly in black dresses and stood quietly beside Gu Manman with tears in their eyes.

The youngest of those children was only five years old, but he already understood the meaning of life and death.

During the entire memorial service, Gu Manman remained eerily calm. She didn't cry or get hysterical. She just stood there silently, accepting everyone's comfort, like a walking empty shell.

The post-funeral paperwork was even more tedious, including the cancellation of bank accounts, the settlement of medical insurance, and the sorting out of the few personal belongings of the dean's mother.

Su Yu helped Gu Manman deal with each item one by one, observing her condition from time to time, fearing that she would collapse at some point.

After a whole week of running around, everything finally came to an end.

Su Yu accompanied Gu Manman back to the empty apartment. She sat quietly on the sofa, looking at the sun setting outside the window without saying a word.

The afterglow of the setting sun shines on Gu Manman’s pale face.

Her silhouette seemed particularly clear and fragile in the sunset.

It was getting darker, the sky outside the window was gradually shrouded in twilight, and the outline of the city became blurred and hazy in the night.

Gu Manman still sat silently in front of the window, looking at the distant skyline, her eyes empty and out of focus.

Su Yu brought a cup of hot tea and placed it on the coffee table. The hot steam rose and dissipated in the cold air.

"Have some tea to warm yourself up."

Gu Manman turned her head, forced a smile, and took the teacup.

Suddenly, a firework exploded in the distant sky, followed by the second and the third.

The colorful light illuminated the entire night sky, and Gu Manman's pale face alternated between light and dark in the light and shadow.

Su Yu looked out the window and suddenly realized: "Today is Valentine's Day, I forgot."

"Su Yu, you should go and accompany your boyfriend, don't stay here with me." Gu Manman's voice was dry and low, and it sounded hoarse from not speaking for a long time.

"What boyfriend? He's not as important as you."

"Even if the king of heaven comes to find me now, I will not leave you."

The fireworks outside the window were getting more and more frequent, and the whole city was immersed in the celebration of the love festival.

Suddenly, a row of drones appeared in the sky, flashing to form a red heart shape, and then rearranged themselves to form the clearly legible words "FMZ&LJY", shining in the night.

Feng Mingsheng & Lin Jinyun.

Seeing this, Su Yu's face instantly turned pale, and she gritted her teeth and cursed: "Feng Mingzhou is such a scumbag! He is worse than a beast! And he still has the nerve to publicly confess his love for Lin Jinyun!"

Su Yu looked at Gu Manman with heartache, but didn't know how to comfort her. All the prepared words seemed so pale and powerless at this moment.

The fireworks in the night sky became more dense, and those brilliant lights bloomed and disappeared in the darkness.

Gu Manman withdrew her gaze and stared at the cold tea on the coffee table. Something in her heart suddenly collapsed.

The tears that had been suppressed for so long finally burst out.

She hugged her shoulders as if she wanted to crush herself, and her silent crying soon turned into heart-wrenching sobs.

Su Yu hugged her tightly, let her head rest on her shoulder, and let her tears soak her clothes.

"I'm really tired, Su Yu... I'm really tired..."

Su Yu patted her back and comforted her softly like coaxing a child: "It's okay to cry, it's okay to cry..."

The fireworks outside the window gradually became sparse, the lights of the drones slowly went out, and the night sky returned to its former silence.

Gu Manman's crying gradually subsided, and she seemed to have exhausted all her strength and collapsed in Su Yu's arms.

Su Yu wiped the tears from her face and said, "Buy a plane ticket to go abroad in a few days, don't look at these anymore. Things abroad have been arranged, and Philips Editorial Office is looking forward to your visit."

Gu Manman closed her eyes tiredly and nodded slightly: "Well, let's go, the farther the better."

Her voice was as light as a thread, but it carried an unprecedented determination.

Su Yu looked at the girl in his arms who was once proud and strong, but was now scarred by life, and felt an indescribable pain in his heart.

"It will be fine, everything will be fine. I will definitely make Manman get better." Su Yu promised softly.

The next morning.

Su Yu was in the kitchen, cooking porridge very quietly, for fear of waking up Gu Manman who had cried herself to exhaustion last night.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

Su Yu frowned, put down the spoon and walked quickly to the door. Through the peephole, she saw Li Xu standing outside with a few exquisite bags in his hands.

"Who are you looking for?" Su Yu opened the door.

"I'm Li Xu, Mr. Feng's assistant. Mr. Feng asked me to give some gifts to Miss Gu."

Su Yu's eyes turned cold, "Get lost!"

She snatched the bag from Li Xu's hand and threw it to the ground, and the sound of something breaking came from inside.

"Manman has been with him for five years, and he treats her as a plaything right away! He is a scumbag worse than an animal! Go back and tell Feng Mingzhou that Manman won't fall for his tricks!"

The blood drained from Li Xu's face. He lowered his head and said helplessly, "I... was just following orders..."

"Go back and tell Boss Feng not to harass Manman anymore. He can treat five years of relationship as trash, why should she still eat the little charity he has left?"

A light sound of footsteps came from deep in the corridor. Su Yu turned around and saw Gu Manman standing there.

"Manman..." Su Yu called out distressedly, walked quickly to her side, and gently put his arm around her thin shoulders, "Why did you get up?"

"Secretary Li, please go back," Gu Manman's voice was as light as a thread, but very firm, "Thank Mr. Feng for his kindness on my behalf, but I don't need this."

Li Xu stood there without moving, his eyes full of hesitation.

Seeing that he didn't move, Su Yu was about to get angry.

"Please go back." Gu Manman spoke first, her tone calm and firm, "Secretary Li, please tell Mr. Feng."

She paused and adjusted her breathing. There was no extra expression on her face, only fatigue.

"We're done. Everything he did for Dean Wu is just paying me back for those five years of my youth."

Gu Manman raised her hand to stop Li Xu from saying anything.

"No need to come again. It's meaningless to give anything as a gift."

She took a step back without even glancing at the broken gifts on the ground.

"Please go back."

Li Xu wanted to say something but stopped himself. Finally, he could only nod, picked up the bags scattered on the ground and turned to leave.

"Ms. Gu, take care of yourself. I will convey your message truthfully."

The moment the door closed behind her, Gu Manman's shoulders slumped.

Su Yu hugged her thin back distressedly, but didn't know how to comfort her.

"Su Yu, let's go tonight and don't wait any longer."

Su Yuhui shook her hand and nodded heavily: “Okay, let’s go tonight.”
