Chapter 25 His love is a gorgeous cage and a gentle knife

The villa in the western suburbs is shrouded in an invisible net.

A barely perceptible electric grid glowed on top of the towering wall.

In the garden, there are cameras hidden among the lush branches and leaves at regular intervals.

Inside and outside the villa, bodyguards in black suits were stationed at every possible exit and visual corner.

Their eyes were sharp and they scanned the surroundings vigilantly to make sure the imprisoned canary had nowhere to escape.

Gu Manman stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of the bedroom on the second floor, looking at the figures patrolling regularly on the lawn downstairs.

This place is as luxurious as a palace, but it is also a veritable cage.

She couldn't go anywhere.

The sunlight shone through the glass and fell on her pale fingers, but it did not bring any warmth.

She picked up her phone and masochistically clicked on Lin Jinyun’s Instagram.

Lin Jinyun stood in front of a row of white wedding dresses, her face filled with a happy and proud smile.

She was wearing a simple satin gown and turned sideways towards the camera, her fingers gently stroking one of the wedding dresses that was embellished with lace and pearls.

The caption is: "It's hard to choose, every piece is so beautiful~ #Wedding Dress #Soon To Be Mrs Feng"

The background of the photo is a top-notch custom wedding dress shop.

Gu Manman stared at the photo quietly, waiting for the feeling of her heart being stabbed, but was surprised to find that there was only dead silence and numbness.

Once, he also discussed the style of wedding dress with her.

Once upon a time, she had discussed the style of wedding dress with Feng Mingzhou, and he said that she would look like a mermaid princess from a fairy tale in a fishtail dress.

Thinking back on those sweet whispers now, there is only cold irony.

She exited the app and threw her phone onto the soft velvet sofa.

Numbness, like a thick shell of ice, wrapped around her heart, isolating it from all the sharp pain.

The ringing of the cell phone broke the silence in the room.

"Manman? How are you? Did that bastard give you any trouble?" Su Yu's anxious voice came.

"I'm fine, Xiaoyu. He just... won't let me leave for now."

"What do you mean he can't leave temporarily? On what basis does he have the right? Call the police! We call the police!"

"It's useless. You know his power."

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a moment, leaving only Su Yu's suppressed breathing.

"What are you going to do? I can't leave you there alone!"

"Don't worry about me. Go and settle down first. I'll find a way to meet you as soon as possible."

This was a lie that even she didn't believe.

But she couldn't let Su Yu worry, let alone drag her into this mess.

“Manman…”

"Be obedient, Su Yu, take care of yourself. Wait for my news."

After hanging up the phone, Gu Manman closed her eyes and felt a deep fatigue.

/

The sky outside the window gradually darkened, and the lights in the villa lit up one by one.

She didn't turn on the lights, allowing herself to immerse herself in the dim light. Only the small area in front of the easel was illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun.

Footsteps were heard outside the door, followed by the sound of the door being pushed open.

Feng Mingzhou walked in.

He changed out of his suit and put on a comfortable dark gray cashmere sweater, which made him look less aggressive in the business world and more gentle at home.

He saw Gu Manman standing in front of the easel with her back to him, without looking back.

"Drawing?" He took a few steps closer and lowered his voice.

"Why don't you turn on the light?"

Gu Manman did not respond, but the brush in her hand continued to move across the canvas, leaving behind chaotic and depressing blocks of color.

Feng Mingzhou stood behind her, his eyes fixed on the canvas.

That was not her usual bright and warm style. The picture was filled with a thick darkness that was almost overflowing.

His heart seemed to be struck by something dully, and he felt a sharp pain.

He suddenly stretched out his hands and held Gu Manman in his arms, with such force that he almost rubbed her into his bones and blood.

He rested his head on the side of her neck and took a deep breath, wanting to engrave her scent into his lungs.

Gu Manman could clearly feel the rise and fall of his chest and the almost inaudible, trembling sigh.

"What do you want for dinner? I'll ask the kitchen to prepare it."

Gu Manman's body stiffened instantly, the paintbrush suspended in mid-air, paint dripped down, forming a small smudge on the palette.

She didn't respond, didn't even look back at him.

"That's enough."

Feng Mingzhou suddenly grabbed her wrist from behind, and the paintbrush slipped from her fingers, leaving a dark red stain on the wool carpet.

"You've been painting for three hours. It's time to eat."

"I'm not hungry."

Feng Mingzhou sighed, leaned over and picked her up, ignoring her struggles, and strode towards the door.

"Put me down!"

Gu Manman's fist hit his chest with a dull thud, but he didn't move at all.

Feng Mingzhou carried her down the spiral staircase. The servants in the hall lowered their heads, their ears watching their noses and their noses watching their hearts.

The long table in the dining room was already set for dinner.

"I don't want to eat."

Gu Manman put her hands on her knees and looked straight ahead at the air.

Feng Mingzhou didn't say anything, but just clapped his hands. Two servants in black uniforms came in with a dining cart and started serving the dishes.

Steamed grouper, oxtail stewed with truffles, and her favorite pumpkin soup.

"Try it, the chef prepared it specially for you."

Feng Mingzhou picked up the spoon, scooped a spoonful of soup, blew it gently to cool it down, and brought it to her lips.

"Open your mouth," he ordered, but there was something oddly soft in his voice.

Gu Manman closed her lips tightly, still looking straight ahead.

Feng Mingzhou's patience seemed endless.

He held the spoon like that until the soup cooled slightly.

Seeing that she was unmoved, he sighed, but there was a flash of determination in his eyes.

"You want to starve yourself to death?" He lowered his voice so that only the two of them could hear it.

"If you don't eat it, I'll have someone dig up Dean Wu's urn from the cemetery."

"You dare!"

"Try it." Feng Mingzhou's eyes were terribly cold, but the spoon was still held steadily to her lips.

Gu Manman's lips trembled and finally opened.

The pumpkin soup slid down her throat. It was her favorite flavor, with just the right temperature and the perfect sweetness.

A gleam of satisfaction flashed in Feng Mingzhou's eyes.

"The fish is very fresh." Feng Mingzhou used chopsticks to remove the fish bones, picked up a small piece of tender white fish meat, dipped it in the sauce, and brought it to her mouth.

Feng Mingzhou fed her the entire dinner, bite by bite, without missing a single dish, from soup to dessert.

After finishing the last bite of dessert, Feng Mingzhou gently wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin. "How does it taste?"

Gu Manman didn't answer, and Feng Mingzhou didn't force her to speak. He just held her hand and led her out of the restaurant.

/

It's late at night.

Gu Manman lay on the bed with her eyes open, looking at the swaying light of the crystal lamp on the ceiling.

The mattress beside him sank slightly and Feng Mingzhou lay down.

He didn't try to hug her as usual, but just lay quietly beside her.

The only sounds left in the room were the two people's shallow breathing.

A long time passed, so long that Gu Manman thought he had fallen asleep.

He suddenly turned sideways, and his warm breath brushed her cheek.

She could feel his eyes on her face.

She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep, but her body tensed up involuntarily.

His lips brushed against her trembling eyelashes, and the kiss fell on her brow with careful restraint.

His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of imperceptible fragility, and it sounded in her ears.

"Manman, I love you."

Gu Manman's eyelashes trembled slightly, but she did not open her eyes.

She didn't respond, not even her breathing changed.

It was as if that sentence was just a gust of wind blowing through the window frame, leaving no trace.

Feng Mingzhou kept kissing her forehead for a long time. Finally, he withdrew his arms and lay down again.

In the darkness, Gu Manman slowly opened her eyes, and tears silently slid down and sank into the pillowcase.

like?

His love is a gorgeous cage and a gentle knife.

She would rather not.
