Chapter 5: My Lambo was sold without even a scratch
The Rolls-Royce was parked in front of an inconspicuous building near the China World Trade Center.
Gu Manman looked through the car window. The exterior looked ordinary, but when she walked into the lobby, she saw transparent floor-to-ceiling windows and a winding waterscape.
The lotus lanterns in the water are lit one by one, stretching from the entrance to the elevator room.
Feng Mingzhou took her hand and walked inside.
As soon as he entered the elevator, he pressed the button for the top floor, and after his fingerprint was verified, the elevator slowly moved upwards.
When the elevator door opened, what caught my eye was a full-length floor-to-ceiling window, offering a panoramic view of the entire night view of Jiangcheng.
"Mingzhou and Manman are here!"
Gu Manman looked in the direction of the voice and saw Zhao Yang coming up to her warmly, followed by seven or eight people. They were all people she knew, old friends who had not abandoned Feng Mingzhou when he was blind.
The dinner party was not big, with about ten people sitting in a circle, but they were all well-known names in the circle. Their every move was saturated with ubiquitous superiority.
"Let's play two games before dinner." Zhao Yang suggested, "How about baccarat?"
The young men all chimed in, rubbing their hands in anticipation. The waiter brought in brand new poker cards, and the table was soon filled with chips.
Gu Manman whispered to Feng Mingzhou: "I don't know how to play."
Feng Mingzhou leaned close to her ear and said, "It's okay, just follow me."
The atmosphere at the card table instantly became more exciting. Thin pieces of paper flew across the table, and the chips collided with each other, making crisp sounds. Feng Mingzhou placed the bets for Gu Manman and taught her the rules step by step.
"When the dealer has three cards..." He gently touched the back of her hand with his fingertips and explained in a low voice.
Gu Manman was absent-minded, and her eyes kept stealing glances at Feng Mingzhou's profile. He had a faint smile on his face, but his eyes were as sharp as an eagle, observing every card that was turned over.
"Mr. Jiang, how much is your yacht? Why not bet on it?" Zhao Yang asked.
Jiang Shao raised his eyebrows: "Do you have anything valuable to bet on?"
Zhao Yang touched his chin and said, "My limited edition Lamborghini, I just picked it up the day before yesterday."
Someone nearby whistled.
"Mingzhou, do you want to suppress me?" Zhao Yang turned to Feng Mingzhou with a cunning look in his eyes.
Feng Mingzhou held Gu Manman's wrist and stuffed a few chips into her palm, "Place the bet for me."
"Me? I can't..."
"You will." Feng Mingzhou smiled.
When the game started, Gu Manman somehow put all her chips on the player side.
The whole audience was in an uproar.
Zhao Yang exclaimed: "Wow, President Feng is so confident?"
The cards were turned over and Gu Manman won the first game.
"Sister-in-law is so lucky!"
Feng Mingzhou smiled and pushed the chips he won to her: "Continue."
Gu Manman won the second game again.
In the third game, the chips had piled up into a small mountain.
"All in." Feng Mingzhou said in a relaxed tone.
Gu Manman gritted her teeth and put out all her chips.
The last card was turned over and she won again.
Everyone at the table was stunned. Zhao Yang said with a bitter face: "What kind of divine luck is this?"
Gu Manman's face flushed with excitement, and she even forgot where she was. She grabbed Feng Mingzhou's sleeve and said, "We won!"
Feng Mingzhou scratched her nose lovingly: "You win."
Jiang Shao admitted defeat wholeheartedly: "Ms. Gu is born with good luck in gambling."
"My Lamborghini has been sold without even a scratch!" Zhao Yang wailed, clutching his chest. The young man next to him gritted his teeth and added, "And the Patek Philippe I ordered at Sotheby's!"
Feng Mingzhou chuckled: "Who asked you to take the initiative to bring up the bet?"
"Okay, okay, I admit defeat." Zhao Yang pushed the chips aside, "Let's start the meal! Everyone, move over, we can eat and talk at the same time."
Everyone moved to the restaurant with laughter. In the spacious private room, a huge round table was filled with exquisite meals.
Gu Manman sat to the right of Feng Mingzhou. In front of her was a bowl of crab meat and lion's head soup - two pieces of gold foil floated on the soup, which was the way she mentioned she liked it last time.
"I'll drink first to show my respect!" Zhao Yang raised his glass and stood up. "It's my fault that I lost the car because I'm not as skilled as others. This glass of wine is to toast to sister-in-law Manman's good luck!"
Gu Manman nodded in thanks. Just as she was about to raise her glass, Feng Mingzhou had already taken the glass of wine and placed it in front of him, then replaced it with a glass of warm water and handed it to her.
After three rounds of drinks, the topic shifted from recent investment projects to vacation resorts, and then to each other's private collections.
Someone's joke during the meal made everyone at the table laugh so hard that Gu Manman couldn't help laughing out loud.
Halfway through the meal, the club manager hurried over and whispered something in the waiter's ear.
The waiter bent down and said something in Zhao Yang's ear.
Zhao Yang raised his eyebrows: "Boss Liao is here in person? Please come in!"
A moment later, a middle-aged man with slightly gray hair strode into the private room, followed by two young men in suits.
"Dear guests, enjoy your meal and drinks! I heard that Mr. Feng is here today, so I came here to offer him a glass of wine." Mr. Liao smiled, but his eyes glanced around shrewdly.
"Mr. Liao, you're welcome." Feng Mingzhou had a decent smile on his face, but there was no smile on his face.
Mr. Liao waved his hands quickly: "No, no, no, it's my honor. Mr. Feng didn't take action for three years, but when he took action recently, it was a thunderous move, and the Jiangcheng business community was convinced."
"Mr. Liao, thank you for your praise." Feng Mingzhou's tone was calm, but contained a warning.
Mr. Liao seemed to have noticed something and wisely stopped talking. He raised his glass and drank it all. “Sorry to bother you all. I’ll take my leave now.”
After Mr. Liao left, Zhao Yang joked, "Mr. Feng is still so impressive. Even a veteran like Mr. Liao came to curry favor with him in person."
"Everyone knows his little tricks." Jiang Shao sneered, "Last time, the money he borrowed was cut off and he was about to close down. He begged Mingzhou for help, so why is he pretending to be so high and mighty now?"
Gu Manman turned her head slightly to look at Feng Mingzhou, who picked up a piece of stir-fried asparagus and put it into her bowl. The heart of the vegetable was so tender that you could squeeze out water. His face was normal, as if the incident just now was not worth mentioning.
When has Feng Mingzhou ever lacked compliments? From childhood to adulthood, he has heard compliments on his young achievements, his extraordinary bearing, and his unique vision, and his ears have long been callused.
Of course he could tell who was sincere and who was just pretending.
But he didn't point it out, nor was he interested in it. He just treated it as a side dish at the dinner table, fine with wine, but hard to get into the heart.
After the meal, everyone stood up and walked out arm in arm.
Feng Mingzhou took the opportunity to put his arm around Gu Manman's waist, and his palms inadvertently rubbed her waist twice.
Gu Manman turned around and gave him a look of pretended anger, but she didn't push his hand away.
The hotel lobby was brightly lit and bustling with people.
Feng Mingzhou suddenly released his hand from around her waist.
Gu Manman looked up in confusion and looked forward in the direction he was looking.
Not far away, Lin Jinyun, who was wearing a light-colored evening dress, was stopped by a man with a red face.
The man was obviously drunk. He swayed from side to side while talking about something, and from time to time he reached out to grab Lin Jinyun's wrist.
Lin Jinyun stepped back, his brows furrowed, disgust written all over his face, but he didn't want to lose his composure.
Gu Manman felt Feng Mingzhou's breathing became heavy and rapid, and his muscles were tense under his suit.
Before she could react, he had already strode in that direction.
Gu Manman stood there, watching Feng Mingzhou's back getting farther and farther away, feeling waves of tightening pain in her heart.
She was only a few steps away from him, but it felt like the distance between them spanned the entire galaxy.
