Chapter 64: Buddy, I told you to get out of here and stop getting in the way
Gu Manman opened the car door and sat in the back seat.
Feng Mingzhou looked at her, a trace of panic flashing across the depths of his eyes.
"I did it."
Before Gu Manman could speak, he admitted it straightforwardly.
"Why?"
Feng Mingzhou replied: "I don't like it."
"I don't like him touching you."
"Even if it's just one shot or one angle, I don't like it."
Gu Manman added: "Feng Mingzhou, that is Su Yu's work."
"She spent more than half a year shooting this."
"You can't destroy other people's efforts just because of your own groundless suspicion."
Feng Mingzhou's jaw line tightened.
"I'll pay her back."
"Ten times, a hundred times, it's all right."
Gu Manman was almost laughing out of anger.
"Do you think everything can be measured by money?"
“It’s not about the money!”
"That was her hard work and her dream!"
Her voice suddenly rose, filled with uncontrollable anger.
Feng Mingzhou looked at her eyes which were slightly red due to anger, and his heart suddenly sank.
He was most afraid of seeing her like this.
Afraid that she would be disappointed in him, afraid that she would show such disgusted expression.
"I..." His Adam's apple rolled, and his tone softened, "I just... I couldn't stand seeing that scene."
“I can’t help it.”
"Manman, could you... not be angry with me?"
It happens again.
Every time, he used this almost weak gesture to dissipate her anger.
For Su Yu, Gu Manman forced herself to calm down and communicate with him in a nice tone.
"Feng Mingzhou, listen carefully."
"First, it was just a shot in the documentary. It was a problem of shooting angle. Lin Anbo did not kiss me."
Didn't kiss her.
These four words ran through Feng Mingzhou's limbs and bones like an electric current.
Yes, Manman must have come down to explain it to him specifically.
She still cares whether he has misunderstood and cares about his feelings. It must be like this!
The anger in my heart disappeared at once, and my whole body warmed up.
He could even feel that the rhythm of his heartbeat had changed, and the heavy and depressed feeling was replaced by a light and joyful feeling.
"Second, even if he did kiss me, that's my business and has nothing to do with you."
Her next words were like a bucket of cold water, but he automatically blocked them out.
He only caught her previous explanation - she emphasized "didn't kiss me".
"Put the film back on the shelves immediately."
"Okay." He responded quickly, "I'll get him back to health."
"Also," she looked at him and added, "from now on, don't interfere with the lives of me and my friends in this way."
"This is my own business, so give yourself some dignity."
"I understand." He responded in a low voice, his eyes always fixed on her face.
Gu Manman felt that she had said everything she needed to say and her goal had been achieved.
She didn't want to be in the same confined space with him anymore.
She paused as she pushed open the car door and turned her head.
"Also, don't stand guard here like a door god every night." Her tone was a little impatient, but more of a sense of powerlessness, "Go back."
Go back.
These three simple words, when heard by Feng Mingzhou, were automatically interpreted by him into another meaning.
She cares about him.
She must have felt sorry for him because she saw that he didn't get enough rest.
A greater, almost dizzying joy washed over his heart.
Just like before, she couldn't bear to let him work overtime at night and always advised him to go home early!
She really still cares about his health!
He could hardly control the upward curve of his mouth, and could only purse his lips tightly to suppress the joy that was about to overflow.
"Yeah. I'll listen to you." He responded cheerfully.
Gu Manman didn't look at him again. She pushed open the car door, got out, and walked quickly back to the apartment building.
The car window slowly rose, blocking out the light and sound from outside.
Feng Mingzhou leaned back in the back seat and raised his hands to cover his eyes to block out the light that was leaking out uncontrollably.
In the darkness, the corners of his lips rose silently and little by little.
/
The Maybach was driving on the way back to the villa in the western suburbs.
Feng Mingzhou leaned back in the back seat, tapping his fingertips on the expensive leather seat with an unusually brisk rhythm.
Unable to help himself, he picked up his phone, found Zhao Yang's number and dialed it.
The call was connected quickly, and there seemed to be some noise on Zhao Yang's end.
"Hello?" Zhao Yang's voice came.
"Yeah." Feng Mingzhou responded, his voice deliberately flat, and not much emotion could be heard in it, but if one listened carefully, one could detect a barely perceptible rising ending.
"What instructions does Mr. Feng have?" Zhao Yang teased on the other end.
"Nothing." He paused, as if just saying it casually, "She asked me to go back to bed early."
There was silence on the other end of the phone for two seconds, with only faint background noise.
"..." Zhao Yang's voice sounded like a cassette tape, "That's... pretty... good."
Feng Mingzhou could imagine the expression Zhao Yang might have over there, but he was in a very good mood at the moment and didn't care.
He even felt that Zhao Yang's reaction must be out of jealousy.
"She specifically explained to me that she and Lin Anbo were just borrowing positions."
Feng Mingzhou added, with an almost boastful tone in his voice that he himself was not aware of.
Zhao Yang: “…”
On the other end of the phone, Zhao Yang stood at a booth in a noisy bar and rolled his eyes at the air.
The sour smell of love is so suffocating that it can kill people even through the telephone line.
Go back to bed early?
Doesn’t Gu Manman think he’s in the way?
Why bother explaining it? They were just trying to smooth things over because they were afraid he would go crazy.
He really wanted to remind you: Buddy, they are telling you to get out of here and stop getting in the way.
But thinking about Feng Mingzhou's obvious IQ drop, he tactfully swallowed his words. Saving his life was more important.
Zhao Yang cleared his throat and decided to end this boring topic as soon as possible. He didn't want to listen to Feng Mingzhou analyzing how Gu Manman's eyes could mean different things.
"By the way," Zhao Yang changed his tone to a relaxed one, "I have something to tell you. My cousin is back from Country M. He's the one who used to climb over the wall and rob bird nests in our alley together when we were kids. Do you remember him?"
Feng Mingzhou recalled it, and a vague image of a fat boy emerged in his mind. "Yeah, I have some impression of him."
"He is no longer a little fat boy now, he looks like a decent human being. He just came back a few days ago and he is clamoring to get together. Are you free tomorrow night? Let's go out for a drink together?" Zhao Yang suggested.
"Okay." He agreed. As luck would have it, he was in a good mood.
"Okay, I'll choose the place and send you the address when the time comes." Zhao Yang's voice finally sounded a little normal.
"Hang up." Feng Mingzhou ended the call without saying anything else.
It was very dark inside the car, with only the street lights on both sides of the road quickly sweeping backwards, and occasionally a light briefly swept through the car.
As the light and shadow change, you can see the curve of his tightly pursed lips rising.
