Chapter 37 "It won't break."
The man's hand was still pressed against the young man's forehead.
Listening to the young man's intermittent ramblings, my Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily.
The capybara baby still has a fever.
It can't be too beastly.
He placed his palm on the young man's soft cheek, pressing his fingertips against it.
He gently comforted her, "It won't break."
The little capybara, with only its round head showing, was still frowning and whimpering, unable to utter a single complete word.
"I won't let you look rustic," the man comforted him softly, his fingertips gently tracing the young man's cheek and the dimples that appeared on his face. "I'll go get the thermometer and be right back."
Just now, the temperature on my forehead was probably above 38 degrees Celsius, but I still took a measurement just to be on the safe side.
The somewhat restless and anxious capybara seemed to understand, and calmed down a little, turning its face to one side and burying itself deeper into the blankets.
The man quickly found a thermometer and took the young man's temperature.
38.5 degrees Celsius, medication is needed to lower the fever.
Pei Qi was in a daze, but fortunately she seemed to have escaped from that terrifying dream. However, because of the fever, her face was still scrunched up.
"Get up, take your medicine, and have some water, okay?"
The tone of Guan Yue was probably the best when he was talking to the drunk and sick capybaras.
"Hmm..."
Guan Yue had already lifted the man from the bed and pulled him into his arms, then pressed the pill to the young man's lips.
Pei Qi kept her eyes closed and her jaw clenched, showing no cooperation whatsoever.
"Be good and open your mouth." The man was getting a little exasperated, but he couldn't forcefully pry the young man's teeth open.
Pei Qi, on the contrary, looked aggrieved, her brows furrowing as she said, "No..."
Guan Yue: "How can you get better if you don't eat? Listen to me."
"How...how do we eat this?" The little capybara's tone became even more aggrieved, its squinting eyes seeming to have been soaked in clear lake water.
"Where did it go?" Guan Yue looked at the fever reducer he was holding between his fingers. It wasn't a capsule, and it really wasn't big.
Pei Qi kept her eyes closed, still struggling against him in his arms: "So...I've never seen anything so big."
Guan Yue: "...You haven't even seen it before, open your eyes and take a good look."
Pei Xi's tone still carried a hint of anger, as if she couldn't explain herself, "I already said it's very big, how can I possibly hoard it all..."
Guan Yue: "......"
The little capybara looked quite aggrieved, with a few tears welling up in the corners of its eyes and its curled eyelashes stuck together: "What if my mouth gets sore... Anyway, it's me who's going to get vines... You can't vine, and you'll probably just think it's messy... Hmph..."
Guan Yue: "......"
"Why don't you open your eyes and see that what I gave you is medicine?"
"I won't look," the young man said, snuggling even closer into his arms as if a fever reducer were some kind of monster, and then coughed several times.
The man's face darkened, and he frowned.
This stinky capybara needs to be given its medication.
He's not smart to begin with, and if he keeps burning through his brain, it'll ruin his brain.
"Take your medicine, or I'll pry your mouth open."
Pei Xi: "Hmm."
Taking advantage of the moment when the young man's lips parted slightly, the man seized the opportunity to press his fingertip against the flesh and insert the pill.
"Cough..." The little capybara tried to spit out the pill, acting very uncooperatively.
But the man quickly stopped him, bringing the glass of warm water to the young man's lips.
The young man swallowed the pill with the warm water.
At first, the little capybara seemed reluctant to swallow. After choking and swallowing a mouthful, it appeared very thirsty and climbed up to hold onto the cup and gulped it down.
"No...where's the star?" After drinking most of a glass of water and panting heavily, the young man uttered a satisfied, broken comment, then leaned against the man's arm, tilted his head, and fell asleep again.
Guan Yue: "........."
I really want to wake up this capybara*, I wonder what's going on in its head.
The man closed his eyelids slightly, but the veins on his forehead were still throbbing slightly.
After a while, he gently placed the young man, who had finally calmed down, back on the pillow and took a fever-reducing patch from the first-aid kit and applied it to the young man's sweaty forehead.
The little capybara stopped talking nonsense, but its lips were still opening and closing, and its breathing was not very steady. The features on its face relaxed a little.
Half an hour later, he checked the young man's temperature again. It was 37.8 degrees Celsius, which had dropped considerably. He breathed a sigh of relief and lay down, cuddling the still-hot capybara to sleep.
He felt he had been very moral, only kissing the capybara on the back of its neck, without even kissing its lips.
Pei Xi woke up once or twice in the latter half of the night, but was still in a daze. She only knew that she seemed to be close to Doctor Guan again, but she didn't have the strength to roll out, so she closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
When he finally regained consciousness, Dr. Guan was peeling the fever-reducing patch off his forehead.
Pei Qi opened her eyes and saw Guan Yue standing by the bed: "Hmm."
"You had a fever last night, but it's gone now." The man noticed the young man waking up and asked, "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
The capybara shook its head: "I'm fine now, but thank you, Dr. Guan."
No wonder he couldn't get up yesterday, even though he wanted to. It was as if all the bones in his body had been removed, leaving him with only a limp, weak body.
After that, he kept having dreams, and the dreams kept changing. He couldn't remember the specifics of the dreams, but he was very tired.
I still feel tired and don't want to get out of bed.
Guan Yue: "I've cooked some porridge, want to come down and have some?"
The young man, whose complexion was still somewhat pale, shook his head again: "I want to lie down a little longer."
Guan Yue: "Aren't you hungry? You didn't eat anything last night."
"I want to sleep a little longer," Pei Qi replied weakly.
"Then why don't you sleep a little longer?" The man tucked the blanket around him. "Sleep for another half hour, then you can get up and eat, okay?"
It was as if they were questioning a small child.
Pei Qi is the type of person who rarely gets a fever, but when she does, it gets very serious.
He remembered that the last time he caught a cold was when he first came to He City.
It was also a holiday. At that time, he had not yet bought a house and was living in a very ordinary rental house.
His body temperature was almost 39 degrees Celsius, but he didn't have the strength to get up and go to the hospital, so he just endured it in bed.
When I felt a little better, I leaned on the small stove and made myself a bowl of instant noodles.
It seems like this is how he got through all his illnesses after becoming an adult.
So this is what it feels like to have someone around you when you're sick?
Pei Xi raised her eyes, which seemed to be covered by a layer of mist, and stared at the man standing on the edge of the bed.
The way Guan Yue asked him "Is it good?" was so pleasant to hear.
"Dr. Guan." The capybara, still ill, called his name in a somewhat hoarse voice.
Guan Yue pulled the blanket over the young man tightly: "Hmm?"
Pei Xi: "Will Dr. Guan still be here next time I get sick?"
Guan Yue watched as the youth's eyes gradually cleared of mist, becoming transparent and clear.
Like two crystals of translucent yet fragile ice.
He dared not look any closer and abruptly looked away.
"You won't get sick next time." The man finally spoke after a few seconds.
The little capybara's icy eyes were gradually melting; it lowered its eyelashes and nodded obediently.
Guan Yue: "Sleep a little longer, I'll go chop some vegetables."
Pei Xi: "Okay."
The man tiptoed out of the room, and Pei Qi squinted as she watched the door close again.
In reality, we can't expect Dr. Guan to always be around.
right.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, he's been able to handle his illness on his own for a long time.
Outside the spotless floor-to-ceiling window, a desolate scene unfolds.
The little capybara turned its head, looked at the withered yellow leaves being swept up by the cold wind outside the window, and gradually closed its eyes again.
He spent half of the National Day holiday in bed, and finally recovered to about 80-90% by the end of the holiday.
Dr. Guan has already gone back to work at the hospital. He originally wanted to take Pei Xi to see the exhibition, but Pei Xi took advantage of the holiday to travel to another city.
So he stayed home for a few more days.
Guan Yue would come home every day to cook dinner and also supervise him to take his medicine.
He doesn't like taking pills, and sometimes when he's sick he can bear it without taking them.
But now... in a sense, he lives under the watchful eye of his attending physician. Every day, his attending physician has to watch him take his medicine and make sure he has taken it before getting up to get him an orange.
He knew that Dr. Guan was concerned about him. During the days he was sick, Dr. Guan took care of him in every way, and almost gave him a bath himself.
So, on the day after I had completely recovered from my cold, Dr. Guan happened to be on duty.
He started working at 2 p.m., following the tutorial on his phone, determined to make a delicious and visually appealing bento box, which Dr. Guan would then deliver to him.
However, this idea quietly changed when he saw the blogger in the video cutting a radish into snowflake-like slices.
Or... how about making an edible bento box instead?
Aside from its somewhat disappointing appearance, the taste was quite good, as he had secretly tasted it a couple of times.
He packed the stir-fried dishes, rice, and a tomato and egg drop soup into an insulated food container.
I picked up my phone to check the time; it was almost five o'clock.
So he opened the chat window with the man.
Seven: [Dr. Guan, I made a bento box.]
Seven: [Send it over now.]
Seven: Are you busy?
There was no reply.
He figured they were probably busy with the evening shift handover right now.
Anyway, he knew which department Dr. Guan was in and where the duty room was, so he went out and took the subway.
When they arrived at the hospital, it was almost 5:20, and Guan Yue still hadn't replied.
Pei Qi took elevator number eight directly to the nineteenth floor.
He rushed into the duty room but couldn't find Dr. Guan.
The capybara carried its food box down the corridor, passing the doctor's office, but no one was there.
Could it be in the operating room?
As I turned a corner, a harsh curse suddenly pierced my ears.
Pei Qi suddenly looked up and gazed into the distance.
Guan Yue was standing in front of the nurses' station.
In front of him stood an agitated man, cursing in accented Mandarin.
The insults were so harsh that Pei Qi was momentarily stunned.
Suddenly, the excited man even reached out and pushed Guan Yue, and then seemed about to hit him again.
Almost instinctively, Pei Qi stepped forward and stood in front of Guan Yue, her expression serious and her neck red with anger: "What right do you have to hit me!"
