Chapter 5. The young man was taken aback and bit his cheek...

The young man was taken aback, biting his cheek: "Downstairs?"

Guan Yue: "Okay, hurry up and get down."

Despite her doubts, Pei Xi didn't ask any further questions and hung up the phone before rushing downstairs.

It started to drizzle a little at night; the raindrops were as fine as silver hair, falling densely.

The young man, head down, dragged his suitcase to the gate of the residential compound.

He didn't remember Guan Yue's license plate number, only that it was a black Panamera.

However, it's still quite easy to recognize.

The sidewalks along the road in the neighborhood are full of potholes, and the noise from the wheels of a suitcase rolling over them is quite loud.

As soon as Pei Qi reached the car, the passenger window rolled down with a "whoosh".

"Didn't bring an umbrella?"

Pei Xi: "I didn't take it, the rain wasn't heavy."

The man turned his head away and didn't say anything.

The trunk then popped open easily.

Pei Qi walked to the back of the car, picked up the suitcase with both hands, and in one go, carried the tightly packed suitcase inside.

It is indeed quite heavy, even heavier than the toolboxes in the office.

The rain gradually intensified.

The young man, head down, hurriedly returned to the passenger seat and opened the car door.

The man with one leg sticking out of the car door pulled his leg back and gently closed the door.

Pei Xi didn't notice; with her head down, the collar of her white shirt under her thin jacket was slightly damp, clinging to her neck. No wonder she felt a little uncomfortable.

He reached out and unbuttoned the top button.

Her clothes and hair were a little wet; she wondered if she would scratch the man's car.

Do you have... tissues?

A large hand holding a tissue was already on my head.

caress.

The effect was not significant.

"Hmm..." The young man was taken aback again, lowered his gaze, and thought he could do it himself.

The man's tone was cold: "The seats are wet. I don't like moisture in the car."

Upon hearing this, Pei Qi swallowed the words that were already on the tip of his tongue.

Let Guan Yue do it then; he can't see which part of his head is wet.

Even through the tissue and through his rain-dampened black hair, the warmth of Guan Yue's palm was clearly felt.

It's quite hot.

"Go back and take a shower first, then pack your things."

The man wiped it very carefully, slowly removing his hand from the capybara's head.

The capybara nodded its head: "Mmm."

After a journey of nearly an hour and a half, the young man tilted his head back and dozed off again.

I was still a little dazed when I got off the bus.

It's not raining now, but the ground is still damp.

Pei Qi yawned and went to the trunk.

He had just woken up and was walking a little unsteadily, so by the time he got there, Guan Yue had already carried the luggage down.

"Thank you." The young man reached out and took the lever.

Guan Yue: "Just one box?"

"Yes." The young man nodded.

The man pursed his lips slightly: "The elevator is this way."

“Okay.” Pei Qi followed the man.

The parking lot was dimly lit, and he suffered from night blindness; taking fish oil for several months had not helped much.

Luckily, this is flat ground, so it's okay if you can't see clearly.

Yujiang Mansion is a high-end residential community in He City, built along the Oujiang River, offering beautiful river view apartments.

Pei Qi had considered buying a place here, but the price was really too high... Even with housing subsidies, it was still a lot of pressure, so in the end he chose Yuntai Apartment.

With a "ding," the elevator doors opened.

The one-apartment-per-floor layout offers greater privacy and convenience.

The gray cast aluminum door that came into view inexplicably exuded a sense of solemnity.

Guan Yue stepped forward and touched the fingerprint lock with his finger.

He then looked up and stared directly at the young man.

Pei Qi roughly understood that the look in his eyes meant for him to come over.

So he took two steps forward.

The man continued to stare at him, his handsome eyebrows slightly furrowed: "Hands."

Pei Xi was a little confused, but she still freed one hand, opened it, looked at her palm and then at the back of her hand.

It's a perfectly normal hand.

Guan Yue: "..."

Suddenly, the index finger knuckle was grabbed and pulled forward.

When you touch the fingerprint recognition area with your fingertip, two "beep" sounds are heard, and a checkmark appears on the screen.

"It's recorded." The man spoke slowly, but did not immediately release the young man's fingers.

It turned out they wanted him to have his fingerprints taken.

Pei Qi smiled somewhat awkwardly, her dimples appearing slightly uneasy.

A few seconds later, the skin at the knuckles was suddenly released.

The front door was opened at that moment, revealing a spacious living room.

As soon as the two stepped into the entryway, the lights in the living room turned on automatically.

In the entryway, besides decorative wood carvings, there is a pile of disinfectant alcohol and wet wipes on the wall-mounted shoe cabinet.

Pei Xi knew that many medical workers were germaphobes, so he froze, his hand holding the suitcase, wondering if he should disinfect the car wheels that were rolling around on the ground first.

Fortunately, he hasn't pulled the car wheels through the gate yet.

After the man bent down to change his shoes, the capybara remained standing there, dumbfounded, as punishment.

So he took out a pair of spring/summer slippers from the shoe cabinet: "Clean."

"Thank you." Pei Qi expressed her gratitude, then paused for a couple of seconds before saying, "I'll wipe my suitcase with disinfectant wipes outside before coming in."

As he spoke, he reached out to grab the disinfectant wipes.

Guan Yue: "No need, just bring it in. Change your shoes and then go take a shower."

The young man stopped halfway, thinking he should still wipe it.

The man probably saw through his intention and added in a calm tone, "Wash yourself clean first."

"Oh... I'll take a shower first." Pei Qi lowered her head to change her shoes.

He thought the slippers would be too big for him, but they turned out to be the perfect size.

It's just right, very comfortable.

The young man opened his suitcase, took out a change of clothes, and looked around.

Guan Yue: "There are bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs, and there's a bathtub downstairs."

Pei Xi: "Then... I'll go upstairs."

Guan Yue: "Mm."

The young man carried his clothes up the wooden curved staircase.

The space upstairs is also quite large.

It's more than enough for two people.

Pei Qi turned on the shower, and water at a comfortable temperature poured down.

I think I forgot to bring the shower gel.

Fortunately, there were some nearby.

The young man squeezed two pumps into his palm and carefully applied them to his body.

The shower gel didn't have a particularly strong scent, and it left me feeling refreshed after washing.

It was already ten o'clock when I came out after showering.

Pei Qi assumed Guan Yue would go to rest first, so she tiptoed downstairs.

I'm a little worried; I haven't even asked myself where I'll sleep.

The young man scratched his freshly washed black hair and looked up.

Guan Yue was sitting on the gray sofa in the living room.

He was still a little unaccustomed to having people at home.

Besides, he subconsciously assumed the man had already gone to rest.

So, my heart skipped a beat.

"Let's put the clothes in the same walk-in closet. I've given you some space. It's getting late, go to sleep first, and we can sort them out tomorrow." The man closed the laptop on his lap as he saw him come out.

Pei Xi: "Okay, then I..."

Guan Yue: "What?"

Pei Xi: Which room do you want to stay in?

Guan Yue: "Upstairs is the master bedroom."

Pei Xi: "And what about you?"

He's living in the master bedroom; isn't that like a cuckoo taking over someone else's nest?

"..." The man pursed his lips and adjusted his glasses. "Of course, it's also the master bedroom."

Pei Qi: "We...sleep in the same room?"

Guan Yue: "Otherwise?"

The young man blinked his round eyes, a hint of surprise flashing in his slightly brown pupils.

Then, I recovered.

He married Dr. Guan.

It's true that the basic requirement is that they should sleep together.

Pei Qi nodded a beat late: "Oh..."

"..." The man stood up and walked towards the young man. "Let's go upstairs."

“Wait a minute…” Pei Qi suddenly thought of a serious problem, “Why don’t we sleep separately?”

Guan Yue: "Why?"

"I... am used to sleeping with the lights on; I can't fall asleep without them." This habit led Pei Qi to carefully install a small lamp behind his bed curtains during college, but his roommates still criticized him, saying he had a problem.

Later, the young man also tried sleeping with the lights off, but he suffered from insomnia as soon as the lights were turned off, and his mental state was extremely poor the next day.

Gradually, he realized that he might have something wrong with himself, so he went to see a doctor. The doctor said that this was probably a manifestation of a lack of security. If sufficient light could calm his mind, he was advised not to force himself to change his habits. If he really wanted to change them, he would need a course of treatment.

But my studies weren't easy back then, and I didn't have time to go to the hospital every day, so this habit... has continued to this day.

To this day, it remains deeply ingrained.

The man paused for a few seconds, then asked, "Afraid of the dark?"

Pei Xi wasn't sure if she was afraid of the dark. She didn't feel scared when walking at night; she just had a bit of night blindness and couldn't see clearly.

"Hmm... I can't fall asleep without the lights on."

“No wonder.” Guan Yue stood in front of the young man, the warm white light scattering around him.

The outline accentuates the man's handsome features.

How can someone have such a high nose bridge even when wearing glasses?

The young man glanced at it a few more times, then pursed his lips: "No wonder what?"

"No wonder you kept asking for the lights to be turned on that night."

The man's tone was like a flat, emotionless line, uttering these words that were not worth pondering.

Pei Xi's ears suddenly felt hot.

He has absolutely no recollection of this incident.

But... that didn't stop him from feeling embarrassed.

With the lights on...

Too...

"Even with someone next to you, do you still find it hard to fall asleep with the lights off?"

The gaze that had been fixed on the young man's face shifted slightly.

It gracefully landed in front of that bright red earlobe.

Pei Xi: "Hmm..."

“I turned it off after that night, and you fell asleep.” The man’s gaze was also tinged with warmth from her flushed earlobes.

"Maybe I just fainted from exhaustion..." Pei Xi analyzed, only then realizing how...

Her ears turned an even redder shade, as if they were about to bleed.

The man in front of him stopped talking and just stared straight at him.
