Chapter 7. The young man's round eyes blinked. ...
The young man's round eyes blinked.
It's as if it's trying to leap into someone's heart, even through the screen.
A few seconds later, the masked man on the screen lowered his eyes: "Flip the camera."
"Aren't you going to look at me anymore?" The little capybara's mouth moved faster than its brain; it was still thinking about how the appendectomist had asked where it was...
Once his mind caught up, his ears turned bright red, and he quickly flipped the camera.
"How...how do I get there?" Hopefully, the appendectomist didn't hear his own rambling...
The man spoke casually, pointing to the road: "Go straight ahead, it's the second inpatient building."
The young man followed the directions and walked forward, turning into the hall. He silently breathed a sigh of relief, as if the appendectomist really hadn't heard him.
"Go through the lobby and the passenger elevator, turn right, and see elevator number eight?"
"I see it." He had just reached the passenger elevator when he spotted it.
Guan Yue: "Yes, we can sit on the 19th floor."
"Okay." The young man held a steamed bun in one hand and his phone in the other.
"Mm." The masked man in the video spoke again, his thick, sword-like eyebrows seeming to lift slightly. "Now I can continue watching you."
Pei Xi: "...Huh?"
"Didn't Teacher Pei want me to continue watching you?"
The heat that had finally subsided in her ears suddenly rose again: "I... didn't mean that..."
A hint of a smile seemed to flicker in those deep, narrow eyes in the video.
"There's no signal in the elevator, I'm hanging up now." Pei Qi really didn't have the courage to continue the video call, and at the same time, she was too cowardly to hang up directly. "See you later..."
He hung up the video call and stepped into the elevator.
His ears, face, and heart were burning hot. Luckily, there was no one in the elevator at the moment, otherwise he might have been taken to a fever clinic.
The elevator slowly ascended to the 19th floor. Elevator number 8 was right across from the doctor's duty room, no wonder the appendectomist told him to take elevator number 8.
The young man, carrying a large steamed bun, had just reached the closed door of the duty room and was about to knock.
The door suddenly opened at that moment.
A man in a white lab coat stood before the young man, one hand on the doorknob, the other casually adjusting the frame of his glasses: "Come in."
Indeed, as long as you have a good figure, even a white lab coat can be worn as a fashion item.
Pei Qi first noticed the name tag on the man's chest.
Guan Yue – Attending Physician.
She looked up and met the man's eyes behind his glasses.
In an offline vs. online battle, they're even less likely to win.
In less than three seconds, the young man quickly glanced down and said, "Okay."
This was his first time entering the doctor's on-call room.
It's not big. There's a bunk bed, a table in the middle, some daily necessities, a microwave, and a water dispenser...
"This probably needs to be heated up a bit." Pei Xi placed the steamed buns on the table.
"Okay." The man took off his mask.
Pei Xi had previously seen some videos of handsome men wearing masks, most of which showed the filter shattering when the masks were removed.
He thought that appendectomists could also get one made.
However, it's the kind of thing where, when you're wearing a mask, your eyes light up, and when you take the mask off, your eyes light up again and again.
So handsome!
I really want to ask the appendix doctor how it grows.
"Would you like some more?" Guan Yue put the buns into a clean glass bowl.
"I'm full, no need." Eating any more would make my head want to be stuffed into a bun. "Does Dr. Guan get off work tomorrow morning?"
"Hmm." Guan Yue turned the microwave oven button.
Pei Qi nodded: "Then I'll go back and pack my things. I'll put my clothes in the closet in the second bedroom, is that alright?"
"Why not?" the man retorted.
Pei Xi paused for two seconds, then understood that this meant it was okay.
"Then I'll head back now."
The microwave oven then "dinged," signaling that its operation was complete.
The man standing next to the microwave oven didn't reach out to open the door; instead, he turned around.
Facing the young man.
The two were only a few meters apart.
Those dark eyes, hidden beneath the cold metallic sheen, plunged straight into the young man's gaze.
To occupy without any room for maneuver.
The little capybara felt a little uneasy being stared at, but he wasn't an ostrich and didn't have the skill to dig a hole and bury himself.
Even if he could, he would probably be bitten on the neck by that deep and fierce frost wolf.
Therefore, the little capybara could only lower its gaze slightly.
Avoid direct confrontation.
A few seconds later, Guan Yue slowly opened his mouth and asked, "You went back?"
"Is...is there anything else?" The capybara asked uncertainly.
He came to deliver steamed buns, which were already heated up.
I should be... alright now, right?
"It's nothing." After a few seconds, the man calmly opened the microwave and took out a glass bowl.
The plump, white buns were steaming hot, with the meat filling's oil seeping into the dough, filling the air with a wonderful aroma.
Guan Yue then asked, "What kind of filling is this?"
“There’s braised pork, and another vegetable dish, green beans and bamboo shoots,” Pei Qi replied.
Guan Yue: "Braised pork can also be used as filling."
“Sure.” The young man, who was already standing on the door frame, took a few steps back and leaned forward. “The braised pork buns are very fragrant. Dr. Guan, you’ll know once you try them.”
"Okay." The man sat down, picked up his chopsticks, took a meat bun soaked in oil, took a bite, and slowly chewed and savored it.
"It smells delicious, doesn't it?" Pei Qi had great confidence in his teacher's wife's steamed buns.
Guan Yue: "Not bad."
The man noticed that the young man was getting close, and that his bright eyes were glued to the big steamed bun.
"Teacher Pei, are you sure you don't want another one?"
Pei Qi smiled shyly, her dimples appearing: "Is there enough for you?"
Guan Yue looked at the five enormous buns in the glass bowl, and the half-full bag of unheated buns: "Teacher Pei, I don't have bulimia."
The young man felt even more embarrassed and gave an awkward laugh: "Then I'll have another one."
Actually, he really felt full just now.
The main reason is that this bun smells so good.
"Wash your hands," the man instructed.
There was a handwashing station in the duty room. The young man nodded and carefully washed his hands following the "seven-step handwashing method" posted on the station.
After wiping himself dry with paper, he sat down next to Guan Yue.
"Eat up." The man pushed the glass bowl towards me. "Is this enough? I'll heat up a few more."
"No need, that's enough."
Pei Qi hadn't forgotten that she had come to deliver steamed buns...
I didn't come here to eat steamed buns...
"Did you sleep well last night?" Guan Yue turned his gaze slightly to the side.
"It's fine." Pei Xi ate quickly, unlike the appendectomist who was slow and methodical. She had already finished a whole steamed bun.
The man's gaze, which he had turned to look at, lingered on the young man's lips, which were stained with a little bit of food.
He extended his index finger and pointed to the same spot on his lips with his knuckle: "It's dirty, wipe it."
The capybara followed his fingertip, its eyes clear.
Is it dirty?
How come he didn't notice?
After staring at it for two seconds and not seeing any debris or oil stains, the capybara moved a few centimeters closer to the big frosty wolf.
He then grabbed a tissue from the side and reached out.
She touched the corner of the man's lips with her fingertips, which were covered with a tissue, and wiped them.
"It's not dirty." The young man released his grip and showed the clean tissue to the man.
Guan Yue: "......"
The man didn't say anything, but he also reached out and pulled out a tissue.
Pei Qi assumed the appendectomist felt she hadn't cleaned it properly, so she added, "Really..."
Before he could finish speaking, a tissue pressed against his skin.
The skin at the corner of my lips felt a warmth from the tissue, mixed with a faint scent of cedar.
"Hmm."
Oh... it meant his mouth was dirty.
After carefully wiping the corners of his mouth, the man withdrew his hand.
"Thanks."
It was rather awkward, so he had to leave quickly: "I...I'll head back now."
Guan Yue: "Wait, there's something I need your opinion on."
Pei Xi: "Okay."
"Do you need a honeymoon? And a wedding? What are your thoughts?" the man asked. "When we got our marriage certificate, I didn't ask you if you needed these ceremonies."
The capybara was receiving the information.
Honeymoon trip...
He and the appendectomist?
That's so strange.
Honeymoon?
We've only met four times?
His relationship with the appendectomist is, at best, just the kind of travel buddy system that's popular online.
"No need, Dr. Guan is quite busy with work." He waved his hand. "No need for all this."
Guan Yue: "You can take leave for your wedding."
“No need to bother.” Pei Qi casually blurted out his true feelings, “We’re not even that close, why would we go on a honeymoon?”
The young man was getting a little fed up with his own brain. It seemed like eating too many steamed buns had made it even less effective, and he was blurting out all sorts of things.
There's nothing wrong with what he said.
"Uh... what I mean is..."
“Teacher Pei is right.” The man’s tone was flat, and there was not a ripple in his eyes.
At that moment, the phone in the duty room rang abruptly.
The man answered the phone.
A few seconds later, the call ended: "An emergency has arrived, I have to go see."
"Oh, okay, Dr. Guan, you're busy." Pei Qi stood up to leave. "I'll head back now too."
"Okay, be careful on the road." The man put on a mask, hurriedly opened the door, and left.
Pei Xi watched the man's retreating figure.
The white coat has a similar feel to a trench coat.
He doesn't even have this feeling when he wears a trench coat.
It was almost nine o'clock when I got back to the apartment.
Fortunately, tomorrow is Saturday, so he doesn't have to get up early and can take his time packing.
He had just opened his suitcase when his phone beeped.
It was a message from the appendectomist.
G: [Are you home yet?]
Seven: [We've arrived.]
G: [Remember to let me know next time.]
Seven: [Won't this bother Dr. Guan too much?]
He always remembered the appendectomist's instructions not to disturb him while he was working.
G: [Necessary information not available.]
Seven: [Okay. /OK gesture]
However, the young man was unclear about what constituted necessary information.
Let's post as few as possible.
He didn't bring much, and some things he simply put in his suitcase and didn't take them out at all.
It was almost midnight when I went to bed.
His biological clock still woke him up around 7 a.m. as usual, and the sky outside the window was already bright.
Pei Qi yawned, reached out and turned off the bedside lamp, preparing to turn over and take another nap.
But I just couldn't fall asleep.
So I simply got up and made breakfast.
He's planning to cook some porridge too, since he ate too many steamed buns yesterday.
I don't know when Dr. Guan will get off work, and I don't want to bother him by sending him a message, so I plan to make more breakfast. It's better to do something than nothing.
He had just soaked the rice in water when he heard the sound of the door being opened and closed.
The little capybara heard this, put down the rice cooker coil it was holding, and poked half its head out from the kitchen: "I'm making porridge, do you want some?"
"Okay." The man stood in the entryway, changed into slippers, and slowly walked in. "After dinner, does Teacher Pei have any plans?"
"No, I don't think so." The capybara poked its entire head out of the kitchen.
Guan Yue: "Shall we go out together?"
Pei Xi: "What are you going out for?"
Guan Yue: "Get a little more familiar with it."
Pei Xi: "...Huh?"
Guan Yue: "Didn't Teacher Pei say we weren't very familiar with each other?"
