Meng Huaijin thought he would never set foot here again.
Looking back now, I find that it's not as bad as I had imagined.
He followed his memory to the house he used to live in. The house was empty, and the woman was long gone.
The area around the house was pitch black, and it was badly burned.
Seeing him standing there lost in thought, an extremely old woman walked over. Following his gaze, the old woman was clearly in the mood for conversation.
"You're looking here? This house is empty now. There used to be someone living here, a woman and a child. That woman used to beat the child every day, and the child would cry so horribly in the middle of the night that no one could sleep. But then, there was a fire, and I heard the woman burned to death, and the child disappeared, no one knows where, anyway, no remains have been found. Do you think such a small child could survive if he ran away?"
The old lady became even more interested when she saw that he seemed to be listening.
"Everyone says that the woman wasn't watching the fire properly and that's how the house burned down. But if you ask me," the old woman lowered her voice, sounding somewhat mysterious, "that little kid is a devil! I think he started the fire. How old is he? Nobody believes me when I tell them. They say a five or six-year-old can't possibly do something like that. That kid looks five or six, but he's actually older than that, probably eight. An eight-year-old is already quite sensible; his eyes were terrifying."
Although it was wrong of the woman to hit the doll, burning the mother to death makes that doll a monster too!
