Chapter 228 First Come, First Served
Yu Qingci felt a tremor in her heart as he looked at her, but she steadied herself and stepped into the main hall.
Madam Ning asked, "You... Madam Wen has left?"
Yu Qingci nodded, and when she met Lu Yunqi's burning gaze, she gave him a look that said, "I'm fine."
"Where is Yun Chu?"
Yu Qingci looked around and asked.
When asked about her daughter, Old Madam Ning smiled indulgently.
"This child only stayed in the guest quarters for a short while before running out, saying she was just going to wander around the temple. Who knows where she is now? Let's leave her alone. She went out with maids and servants, so nothing will happen to her."
By the way, Luo Yi went to look for Yun Chu when she heard she was out, so the two of them should be back together soon.
After saying that, Madam Ning waved to Yu Qingci and said, "Daughter-in-law, you've come at the right time. Come and pray to Guanyin with your husband. Ask Guanyin to bless you to have more children and to continue the family line of the General's Mansion."
With a smile, Granny Pei gently pushed Yu Qingci forward, signaling her to hurry over. Yu Qingci's cheeks flushed slightly from the well-meaning attention from everyone. Lu Yunqi saw this and his smile deepened. He walked over and gently took her sleeve. The two knelt down side by side on the prayer mat, their hands clasped together in devout prayer.
Meanwhile, Yun Chu, along with Dong Yue and two old women, continued on their way, visiting several large halls frequented by pilgrims.
In the past, she always felt depressed whenever she came to the temple with her mother to worship, and she had no interest in looking around or paying her respects. Now, however, she felt different and decided to pay her respects to each and every Bodhisattva in the main hall.
After praying to the Bodhisattva, I asked the monk at the entrance for a few red ribbons. According to the temple's custom, these red ribbons are to be hung on the century-old ginkgo trees in the temple to pray for blessings for family members, and also to pray for marriage and other auspicious things.
Lu Yun Chu excitedly took the red ribbon to the courtyard where the ginkgo trees were planted. It is said that these ancient ginkgo trees in Taijue Temple are several hundred years old. As the temple’s incense has become more and more prosperous, people have been coming here to hang ribbons and pray for blessings.
For example, right now, they looked around but couldn't find a suitable place to hang the ribbons. Every branch and twig within reach was already covered with them.
Two old women led the way, with Lu Yun Chu and Dong Yue following behind. After circling around several ginkgo trees, they finally found a suitable spot. The branches were a bit higher, so there were fewer red ribbons hanging there.
The two old women looked around and moved a few stepping stones to the base of the tree so that their young lady could stand on them and hang the ribbons higher up.
Yun Chu was also very satisfied with this place. She walked over, picked up the red ribbon, and planned to step on the stepping stones. Unexpectedly, a red-clad figure suddenly appeared next to her. The figure quickly ran over, stepped on the stones on the ground, and stood on them.
After stopping, she turned around and called out sweetly, "Cousin, come and help me up."
Lu Yun Chu and the others stared in disbelief at the woman in red standing high up. She wore a bright red brocade dress with embroidered crabapple blossoms on the hem that fluttered in the wind. Her hair was adorned with jewels and a jade butterfly hairpin tucked into her temple. Her features were delicate yet delicate.
The woman was also holding a red ribbon, clearly for the same purpose, and was now turning to beckon to the people behind her.
The group looked behind them and saw a tall, handsome young man with striking features walking towards them.
The man did not approach the woman in red. Instead, he stopped a few steps away and said to her with displeasure, "Chuchu, get down quickly and don't take other people's spots."
Lin Chuchu pouted unhappily and said, "There are no signs here, anyone can come. It's called first come, first served. Cousin, come and help me, I want to hang this red ribbon in the highest place."
Standing behind her daughter, Dongyue said unhappily, "It was clearly a stone we moved here, but this girl really knows how to find a place to snatch it without saying a word. It's so unreasonable."
Standing on the rock, Lin Chuchu looked down at Dongyue, her eyes instantly reddening, and her voice trembling with tears as she said:
"How... how can you say that to me? This stone is here, and it doesn't have anyone's name carved on it. How did I steal it?"
Cousin, you be the judge! They're bullying us terribly!
Lin Chuchu looked pitifully at the young man a few steps away.
The young man frowned even more deeply, stepped forward, and spoke with an undeniable air of authority:
"Chuchu, get down! This girl was indeed standing here first. You were already in the wrong for rushing up to her, and now you're making a scene. What kind of behavior is that?"
"cousin!"
Lin Chuchu was surprised that her cousin not only did not help her, but also scolded her in public. She immediately felt her face burning with shame and anger, and her voice rose a few decibels.
"They just wanted to find a good place to hang ribbons to pray for their great-aunt's well-being! There are so many of them, can't they give way to me? They are clearly bullying me because of their numbers."
As she spoke, she glanced at Lu Yun Chu and snorted, "You dare to bully people from our Zhenbei Marquis's Mansion? You really have a lot of nerve."
Lu Yun Chu's face showed a knowing expression: "So you are from the Marquis of Zhenbei's mansion. I am truly sorry for my disrespect."
A smug glint flashed in Lin Chuchu's eyes. She deliberately displayed her status to make them back down.
Although the girl in front of me was dressed in a wealthy manner, she only had a few servants with her. She didn't seem like a young lady from a high-class family. She was probably just the daughter of an ordinary wealthy family.
Just as Lin Chuchu was about to say a few more words, she heard Lu Yun Chu's voice rise again:
"There's always a first-come, first-served order in everything. I've always heard that the Marquis of Zhenbei and his heir are upright and honorable battlefield heroes. How come the women in your family are so unreasonable? You're using the Marquis of Zhenbei's name to try and seize our land. Aren't you afraid of tarnishing the heroic reputation that the Marquis of Zhenbei and his heir earned through their valiant battles?"
"you!"
Lin Chuchu was speechless, so she could only wring out her handkerchief and stomp her foot at her cousin, saying:
“Cousin, look at her! How rude of her! You must stand up for me.”
The young man heard Lu Yun Chu's words clearly, a look of surprise flashing across his face. He then called out to the two maids who had followed him:
"Hurry up and help Miss Biao down!"
The two maids seemed quite afraid of men, and each took one arm to help Lin Chuchu down from the rock.
Lin Chuchu looked at the man with increasing grievance, but the man didn't look at her; instead, he turned to Lu Yun Chu, cupped his hands, and said:
“I’m so sorry, young lady. My cousin was rude and offended you. I apologize on her behalf. We’ll leave now so as not to disturb your prayers.”
He then gestured for the two maids to take Lin Chuchu away.
"Get out of my way!"
Lin Chuchu forcefully shook off the two maids and walked up to Lu Yun Chu, saying:
"Whose daughter are you, daring to be so insolent in front of our Zhenbei Marquis's residence? Do you dare to state your name?"
