Chapter 14. "The real Mrs. Bai in the future will definitely be very happy."
"The soup is still a little hot, drink it slowly." Bai Xiao quickly stirred the soup in the bowl, trying to let the heat dissipate faster, without noticing anything unusual about Song Huai.
Song Huai was feeling dizzy and his vision was blurry, but he didn't want to disappoint Bai Xiao's kindness, so he endured the discomfort and accepted the bowl of soup.
The soup was leftovers from Song Huai and Bai Xiao's last night. Bai Xiao thought that it was much faster to heat up the soup than to order takeout, and chicken soup was also said to help with hangovers, so she heated it up for Song Huai to drink.
The soup was still covered with golden oil, and Song Huai's stomach began to churn at just one glance. He took a deep breath, picked up the bowl, and took a small sip. Instantly, the nausea in his stomach reached its peak.
Unable to bear it any longer, Song Huai covered his mouth and ran to the bathroom.
"What's wrong?" Bai Xiao exclaimed, her voice filled with anxiety.
As he was talking, Bai Xiao tried to follow Song Huai into the bathroom, but Song Huai slammed the bathroom door shut, refusing to let him in.
Song Huai knelt beside the toilet and vomited for a long time, but only vomited out extremely bitter green bile.
Even after vomiting, Song Huai's stomach continued to spasm and tremble. He knelt on the ground for a long time to recover, until the nausea in his stomach subsided slightly, before he shakily stood up and walked out the door. He felt lightheaded, as if he were walking on cotton.
Bai Xiao hadn't expected that someone who was perfectly fine just moments before would become like that after only a sip of soup. He was frantic outside the restroom, like a cat on a hot tin roof, and the person inside wasn't coming out. Just as he was about to break down the door, it opened.
Song Huai leaned against the wall and slowly walked out, his face deathly pale.
Bai Xiao rushed over and helped Song Huai to the bed, his eyes filled with worry: "What happened? Should we go to the hospital for a check-up?"
Song Huai felt much better after vomiting. He said weakly, "I'm fine, I don't need to go to the hospital."
After saying that, Song Huai picked up the bowl of soup again, wanting to drink it again.
But the next second, the bowl in her hand was snatched away, and the soup spilled all over the floor.
Song Huai looked up at Bai Xiao, his face full of confusion.
Bai Xiao's face was as black as the bottom of a pot. He couldn't understand why the person in front of him was vomiting like this, yet still wanted to drink this greasy soup. What was wrong with him? Was he a masochist?
The anger that had been building up since last night filled Bai Xiao's chest. All he wanted to do was question Song Huai. He wanted to ask him why he was so reckless as to drink someone else's wine, why he was already feeling so bad, yet he still drank this bowl of chicken soup that made him feel nauseous, and why he didn't eat properly and take better care of his body.
However, even though Bai Xiao had a thousand words in her heart, she couldn't say a word after seeing Song Huai's innocent face and clear eyes.
After a while, Bai Xiao said sullenly, "Don't drink this soup. I'll go cook you some white porridge. You should drink some hot water first."
Song Huai was puzzled. He just felt that Bai Xiao had personally heated the soup, and that it was something Bai Xiao had made for him personally, so he couldn't waste it.
But he subconsciously obeyed Bai Xiao's words and nodded: "Okay."
While the porridge was cooking, Bai Xiao brought a rag and wiped up the soup that had just spilled on the floor. Song Huai wanted to help, but Bai Xiao stopped him as soon as he made a move: "Sit down and don't move!"
Song Huai didn't understand why Bai Xiao was being so fierce. Looking at the eldest young master of the Bai family squatting on the ground wiping the floor, he seriously suspected that the sun had risen in the west today.
--
After finishing the congee, Song Huai familiarly took out the stomach medicine that Chen Mingqing had prescribed earlier, tilted his head back, and swallowed the pills with boiled water.
Seeing Song Huai's smooth and effortless movements, Bai Xiao could tell he did it often, and couldn't help but frown: "What did you eat?"
Song Huai replied, "Stomach medicine."
Bai Xiao had no idea that Song Huai had been taking stomach medicine. His brows furrowed even more. "Stomach medicine?"
Song Huaiyun said casually, "Yes, my stomach has never been very good."
Bai Xiao knew that, judging from the commotion Song Huai had caused this morning, his stomach was definitely not just "not very good".
Bai Xiao held back for a long time, but finally asked the question that had been bothering her since last night: "Why did you drink that glass of wine last night?"
Song Huai thought for a moment and said, "He is, after all, your elder, and I'm afraid he'll cause you trouble." He then added, trying to salvage the situation, "Actually, I don't usually have such a low alcohol tolerance, I..."
Before Song Huai could finish speaking, Bai Xiao interrupted him, "Song Huai." Bai Xiao looked directly into Song Huai's eyes and said in a deep voice, "As long as you are still my wife, you don't need to cater to others."
“Although our marriage is just a show for my father, you don’t need to compromise yourself, and don’t be afraid of causing me trouble.” Bai Xiao paused for a moment, then said, “Even if our marriage is just a sham, I will fulfill the responsibilities of a husband. I will do my best to protect you from harm. You don’t need to feel too much pressure. I hope you can be happy and healthy.”
Bai Xiao hadn't expected that Song Huai had drunk so much alcohol for this reason. He sighed and looked at Song Huai seriously, saying, "Do you know how dangerous yesterday was? This situation must never happen again. From now on, whether I'm by your side or not, you have to take good care of yourself, okay?"
Song Huai stared blankly at Bai Xiao, as if he were seeing the person in front of him all over again. He didn't quite understand what Bai Xiao meant. He had only drunk a little too much. What was so dangerous about it? But in this situation, he couldn't argue anymore. He could only stammer, "Okay... I'll be more careful next time."
This seemed to be the first time Bai Xiao had spoken so much to him since they got married. It took Song Huai a long time to process what Bai Xiao had said, and his feelings were complicated.
Bai Xiao is such a good person. I only married him in name, yet he treated me so well. It's a pity that a fake is a fake, and one day I will have to part ways with Bai Xiao.
Song Huai dared not imagine how he would feel when that day came. After all, losing something after obtaining it would be much harder to accept than never having had it at all.
The real Mrs. Bai in the future will surely be very happy. Song Huai lowered his head, thinking sadly.
Bai Xiao noticed that Song Huai seemed lost in thought, his head drooping as if he were a pitiful little dog. He found it amusing and couldn't help but step forward and ruffle Song Huai's hair. "I have a meeting this afternoon, so I'll be leaving now. Remember not to wander off this afternoon, and rest well at home. I'll bring dinner back tonight."
Song Huai still felt a little dizzy. He was reluctant to hear that Bai Xiao was leaving. He saw Bai Xiao to the door, looked at her with a face full of reluctance, and said, "Bye-bye."
He gripped the hem of his clothes tightly, hesitated for a long time, and said, "Remember...remember to come back soon."
