Chapter 18. Bai Xiao: Don't cry, my dear wife.
After taking a cold shower, Bai Xiao's drunkenness began to subside, his breathing gradually calmed down, and his mind slowly cleared.
The scene from earlier flashed through his mind.
Just now, it seemed that he was in a hurry to leave Song Huai and go to the bathroom, and that silly girl was afraid that he would fall, so she actually went forward to help him.
Then what?
Then... he seems to have pushed Song Huai down!
Thinking of this, Bai Xiao suddenly became completely sober, and the effects of the alcohol vanished.
He remembered pushing Song Huai with a lot of force. What if something happened to Song Huai? What if...he...
Bai Xiao dared not think about it any further.
He rushed to Song Huai's room and knocked on the door: "Song Huai!"
No one answered.
Bai Xiao thought Song Huai hadn't heard him, so he knocked on the door several more times, calling out, "Song Huai! Song Huai!"
There was still no movement inside the room.
Bai Xiao was so frightened that she broke out in a cold sweat.
Fearing that something might have really happened to Song Huai, he went straight to open the door to Song Huai's room.
The room was pitch black, and there was no sign of Song Huai.
Bai Xiao rushed downstairs again, but Song Huai was nowhere to be found in the living room, kitchen, bathroom, garden... Only the untouched food remained on the dining table.
Upon noticing the meal on the table, Bai Xiao froze. His heart was filled with a sharp, persistent pain. All the dishes on the table... were still his favorites. Song Huai had prepared a meal with great anticipation, waiting for him to come home, but what had he done?
After a long while, Bai Xiao took out her phone as if grasping at a lifeline and dialed Song Huai's number.
The phone rang on the coffee table next to him. Bai Xiao looked and saw that it was Song Huai's phone.
Bai Xiao felt a sudden surge of anger. Why was Song Huai running around in the middle of the night without even taking his phone?
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
In fact, he knew that at this moment he was more afraid than angry.
The weather has been getting colder lately. Did Song Huai wear extra layers when he went out? Will he get cold? Also, it's pitch black late at night. Will Song Huai run into bad people if he goes out alone?
Bai Xiao vaguely remembered that there seemed to have been several robberies in the city recently.
Bai Xiao couldn't sit still any longer. He immediately made a phone call to mobilize the Bai family to find Song Huai.
After making the call, Bai Xiao couldn't stay at home any longer. He went to the garage, drove his car out, and wanted to go find Song Huai himself.
After driving the car onto the road, Bai Xiao suddenly thought of the scene when she went to deliver food to Song Huai a while ago, and a flash of inspiration suddenly appeared in her mind: He... seems to know where Song Huai is.
--
When Song Huai arrived at the studio, he realized he had forgotten his phone, but he didn't care much.
He sat down on the piano bench, lifted the piano lid, and gently stroked the black and white keys with his slender fingers.
He began to play an etude, which was already fast enough, but Song Huai increased the speed by half again.
It was as if only in this way could he be busy enough to have no time to think about other things.
His ten fingers flew across the piano keys, the rhythm of the music so fast it seemed the strings were about to smoke, and soon beads of sweat dripped from Song Huai's forehead.
After finishing the piece, Song Huai was panting heavily. Just as he was about to play the etude again, the doorbell rang.
Who could be looking for him in the dead of night? Song Huai didn't think much of it and went to open the door.
Upon opening the door, Song Huai was surprised to find an unexpected person standing there. He looked up and down several times before hesitantly asking, "Bai Xiao, what brings you here?"
Upon seeing Song Huai, Bai Xiao secretly breathed a sigh of relief, and her tense body, which had been relaxed since she arrived at home, finally settled down.
Upon entering, Bai Xiao still carried a slight chill from outside. He looked at Song Huai's thin shirt and his expression darkened.
"What are you doing here?" Bai Xiao tried her best to suppress her anger.
Song Huai dared not look at Bai Xiao; the sight of Bai Xiao filled him with uncontrollable sorrow.
He turned his head away. "I just want to... I want to play the piano."
"Why don't you practice the piano at home?" Bai Xiao blurted out. But the next second, he regretted it so much that he wanted to slap himself.
Song Huai looked at Bai Xiao, puzzled. "Didn't you tell me not to practice the piano at home?"
Bai Xiao quickly changed the subject: "Um..." He coughed awkwardly twice, "How about we go home? It's getting late." He tried to speak softly to Song Huai, afraid that a wrong tone would scare Song Huai away again.
Hearing this, Song Huai smiled bitterly, feeling utterly desolate: Bai Xiao, why do you pretend to be so considerate when you clearly hate me so much? Is this all just an act for outsiders? But your acting is so good... I'll believe it.
But since Bai Xiao had come all this way, Song Huai couldn't bring himself to refuse. He muttered, "Okay."
Once in the car, Bai Xiao fastened her seatbelt and said to Song Huai, "Put this on first, it's chilly." Before leaving the house, Bai Xiao had been thinking that Song Huai might not be wearing enough clothes, so she thought of taking one of her own clothes to put on him first.
Song Huai glanced at Bai Xiao's coat in the passenger seat and instinctively wanted to refuse, "No need, I'm not cold..."
Seeing Song Huai's resistance to her clothes, Bai Xiao became even more irritated and raised her voice: "I told you to put your clothes on!"
Song Huai was frightened. Looking at Bai Xiao's cold and stern face and his tight lips, he dared not say anything more and obediently put on his clothes.
The two remained silent throughout the journey, each lost in their own thoughts.
It wasn't until Song Huai got home and was about to go to his room to sleep that Bai Xiao broke the silence: "Song Huai, I'm sorry."
Bai Xiao looked at Song Huai, her eyes full of regret, "I drank too much tonight and I was out of my mind when I pushed you. Are you... in pain? Are you hurt?"
Song Huai wanted to cry again, but he didn't want Bai Xiao to see his uncontrollable tears, so he turned around and tried his best to suppress his sobs: "I'm fine."
After saying that, Song Huai pretended to go to the kitchen to pour water, but in reality, he just wanted to go to the kitchen to wipe away his tears.
Tears kept falling, one after another, and no matter how much I wiped them away, the trash can was soon filled with tissues used to wipe away my tears.
Finally, Song Huai managed to suppress his tears. He turned around and came face to face with Bai Xiao, who had somehow followed him into the kitchen.
Bai Xiao's heart tightened when he saw Song Huai's reddened eyes. He sighed, raised his hand to gently wipe away the remaining tears from the corners of Song Huai's eyes, and said softly, "Didn't you say you were fine? Why are you still crying?"
These words were like a floodgate opening. Song Huai lowered his head, covered his face with his hands, his shoulders trembled, and tears streamed down his face.
Suddenly, Bai Xiao was at a loss. No one had ever cried like this in front of him before, especially someone he liked.
Bai Xiao was stunned for a long time, not knowing what to do with Song Huai. After thinking for a long time, he took a step forward, hugged Song Huai into his arms, and let Song Huai's head rest on his shoulder.
Then, he clumsily patted Song Huai's back: "You...you shouldn't cry anymore..."
