Chapter 15. White, the Tyrant, Xiao
After tying his tie, Bai Xiao looked up and, unexpectedly, met the large, doe-like amber eyes of the person in front of him.
These eyes are clear and bright, yet they seem to possess a wondrous magic. One glance is enough to make a person lose all resistance and wish they could give the whole world to this person.
In an instant, Bai Xiao felt an impulse surge within him. He wished he could cancel the afternoon meeting and act like a tyrant, staying home with Song Huai.
Fortunately, Bai Xiao still retained a shred of rationality. This afternoon's meeting concerned important decisions for the group and could not be canceled casually. He had no choice but to hurriedly say goodbye to Song Huai and leave quickly.
After Bai Xiao left, Song Huai returned to his room to compose music as usual.
After writing for a while, Song Huai always felt that something was wrong; there was always a part of his mind that was focused on something else.
He simply took his paper and pen, ran downstairs, settled into the sofa, and continued writing.
Now Song Huai felt relieved. The sofa was positioned directly opposite the door, so he could greet Bai Xiao immediately when he returned.
Perhaps it was because he was filled with anticipation, but throughout the entire afternoon, Song Huai's eyes were filled with an undisguised smile, and the corners of his mouth were always turned up, never letting go, until the muscles in his face became stiff, he was still smiling broadly.
Even the melodies he wrote benefited from this; looking at the sheet music, it was full of lively and cheerful staccato notes.
The sun set in the west, and the moon quietly hung on the branches.
Song Huai had finished writing a song, but Bai Xiao still hadn't returned.
Song Huai's gaze frequently shifted between the clock and the door.
It's 6:40 now. Wait until 7:00. Bai Xiao will definitely be back by 7:00. Bai Xiao usually comes back around this time.
"Tick-tock, tick-tock..." Song Huai stared at the clock, his eyes darting around, wishing he could personally move the hour hand faster.
About a century later, the clock finally struck midnight, but there was still no movement at the door.
Song Huai was deflated, laughing at himself for being delusional, that he could actually take Bai Xiao's casual joke seriously.
Song Huai was unwilling to wait any longer; he feared that if he waited any longer, he would only be met with more disappointment.
"Click," just then, the sound of the door opening rang out.
Upon catching the sound, Song Huai, who had been dejected just moments before, immediately brightened up. However, after thinking for a moment, he suppressed the urge to rush forward and instead picked up a pen and paper and pretended to write.
Only after Bai Xiao changed her shoes did Song Huai look up and say, "You're back."
Song Huai's voice was deliberately calm, but his eyes did not lie.
As soon as Bai Xiao opened the door, he saw Song Huai sitting on the sofa waiting for him. His heart warmed. For the first time, he felt that it was so wonderful to have someone who was eagerly waiting for him to come home.
"Well, something came up today, so I was a little delayed." Bai Xiao paused for a moment, then teased Song Huai, "You were really looking forward to my return?"
When his secret was exposed, Song Huai blushed. "No...no, I was just hungry, that's why I wanted you to come back soon."
Bai Xiao had long seen through Song Huai's few tricks, but he didn't expose him. Instead, he said, "Alright, alright, the food is here. Eat quickly, or it will get cold."
At that moment, Song Huai noticed the two bags Bai Xiao was carrying. He sniffed the air and caught a familiar scent, overjoyed: "Chen's Beef Noodles!"
Song Huai's reaction was exactly what Bai Xiao expected. As Bai Xiao set out the rice bowls, she shook her head with a smile: "Dog nose."
Eagerly opening the lunchbox, Song Huai exclaimed "Ah!" and his face fell. "Why wasn't there any chili in it?"
"You just took stomach medicine at noon, and you want to eat chili peppers tonight?" Bai Xiao glanced at Song Huai. "You wish."
"Okay..." Song Huai knew he was in the wrong.
At this moment, Bai Xiao noticed Song Huai's fair feet on the tiles, and then saw the slippers he had placed in front of the sofa. Her eyes darkened.
Winter is approaching and the weather is starting to get cold. This person had just had a stomach ailment today, and yet he stepped barefoot on the cold tiles. Isn't he afraid of catching a cold?
He silently walked to the sofa, picked up the slippers, and placed them next to Song Huai's feet. "Put them on quickly."
Song Huai was flattered to see Bai Xiao walking towards him carrying his slippers. "Thank you!"
Hearing Song Huai's thanks, Bai Xiao felt displeased again, but he opened his mouth and ultimately said nothing, only saying, "Eat."
The noodles are springy and chewy, topped with a row of braised beef. The broth, made from beef bones, has a light milky white color. A spoonful of garlic sauce adds a unique fragrance to the delicious soup, making it irresistible and whetting the appetite.
Bai Xiao then noticed that Song Huai was usually slow at eating other things and didn't eat much in the end, but he had a special fondness for the beef noodles at this restaurant. He lowered his head and ate with all his might, even eating faster than Bai Xiao himself.
Before long, Song Huai finished the bowl of noodles, leaving not a drop of soup.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Song Huai finally realized something was wrong. "Bai Xiao, this restaurant is always packed. Did you wait in line for a long time?"
Upon hearing this, Bai Xiao's expression became slightly unnatural. He cleared his throat and pretended to be calm, "No, there wasn't much of a person when I went there."
Song Huai couldn't help but wonder why this shop was always so popular, especially at night. He used to have to wait in line for at least an hour to get a bowl of noodles there.
However, Song Huai unconditionally chose to believe Bai Xiao's words. He secretly sighed, "As expected of the eldest young master of the Bai family, he can even have such good luck while eating a bowl of beef noodles."
That night, Song Huai dreamed of a house filled with beef noodles, and Bai Xiao standing in the center of the house. Bai Xiao looked at him tenderly and said, "These noodles are all for you. You can have as many as you want. There will be more when you finish them. Eat slowly." Song Huai's heart was filled with bubbles of happiness. He just stood there, smiling foolishly at Bai Xiao, unable to get enough of looking at her.
Meanwhile, Bai Xiao was still working late into the night.
At two in the morning, he finally shut down his computer, leaned back against the cushion, pinched his brow, and looked exhausted.
He had to admit that his feelings for Song Huai had changed.
Previously, he had been deceiving himself, telling himself that he only regarded Song Huai as a friend, which was normal.
But today, during his meeting, he was completely absorbed in Song Huai, and his mind wandered several times. Fortunately, the vice president next to him quietly reminded him many times.
After the meeting, he should have continued working in the office, as there were several urgent contracts waiting for him to handle. However, he was distracted and his mind was filled with Song Huai waiting for him to have dinner at home.
He couldn't sit still any longer and left work early. He had originally planned to get takeout from a Michelin three-star restaurant, but halfway there, he suddenly remembered Song Huai eating noodles with gusto that day. So, on a whim, he took a long detour and finally found the beef noodle shop that Song Huai had mentioned last time.
Unexpectedly, the shop was already packed with people, but he still queued for nearly an hour in the small shop full of cooking fumes before he could buy two bowls of beef noodles.
After getting the beef noodles, he rushed home without stopping. He could even imagine the joy on Song Huai's face when he saw the noodles. Just thinking about Song Huai's happy appearance made him happy too.
Bai Xiao sighed deeply as she thought of this.
Although she was exhausted, Bai Xiao's mind was clearer than ever before.
He shouldn't have any extra feelings for Song Huai, and Song Huai shouldn't be involved in so many of his emotions.
This can't go on...
