Chapter 16: I don't know where to begin.
The night was as dark as ink, dotted with stars, and a gentle breeze blew, making the Jingyou Garden completely tranquil.
Lu Zhaoxue was sweating profusely in the heat of the night and felt a little uncomfortable. She got up and tiptoed out to take a bath in the side hall.
By the moonlight, Lu Zhaoxue slowly took off her sweat-soaked undergarment. Her fair skin glowed with a luminous sheen in the night. Lu Zhaoxue scooped up a ladle of warm water and gently poured it down her shoulders.
A soft sound suddenly broke the silence of the night. Lu Zhaoxue's hand stopped abruptly, her heart skipped a beat, and she subconsciously looked out the window. Apart from the swaying shadows of the trees, there was nothing else.
But the strange feeling did not dissipate. Lu Zhaoxue felt as if an invisible gaze was falling on her. She couldn't help but hold her breath and look around warily.
After confirming several times that there was nothing unusual, Lu Zhaoxue's heart finally settled down a little. She continued to wipe her body with her head down. After bathing, she changed into her undergarments, gently pushed open the door, and prepared to go back to her room to rest.
As soon as Lu Zhaoxue took a step, she caught sight of a pair of dark eyes staring at her from the shadows. Lu Zhaoxue froze in fright, but she suppressed her fear and slowly moved closer.
As she got closer, Lu Zhaoxue could see clearly that it was a small dog that was pure white with eyes as black as two pieces of warm, smooth jade.
Lu Zhaoxue's heart skipped a beat, and she softly called out, "Tuanrong, is that you back?"
As soon as she finished speaking, the puppy suddenly leaped lightly in front of Lu Zhaoxue and pounced straight at her feet.
The puppy's body was now quite heavy, and it almost tripped the unsuspecting Lu Zhaoxue. She quickly steadied herself and picked up the fluffy ball at her feet.
Lu Zhaoxue looked closely, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears. It really was her Tuanrong! Tuanrong had really come back to find her!
After the Lu family's misfortune, Lu Zhaoxue was already overwhelmed with her own problems, so when Tuanrong disappeared, she was powerless to search for it. Over the years, she often thought of Tuanrong, wondering where it had gone and whether it was still alive...
Seeing Tuanrong again, Lu Zhaoxue noticed its soft fur and heavy weight, and thought that Tuanrong must not have suffered much over the years.
How did Tuanrong end up in Jingyou Garden? Jingyou Garden is remote and guarded by soldiers, so how did Tuanrong find this place so accurately?
Lu Zhaoxue, carrying Tuanrong, quickly walked into the courtyard and looked around, but there was no one in sight.
Lu Zhaoxue's doubts deepened, but it was getting late and she couldn't go out. Thinking too much would only add to her worries.
Tuanrong nestled obediently in Lu Zhaoxue's arms, occasionally nuzzling her with its head.
Lu Zhaoxue bent down and gently kissed Tuanrong's soft, fluffy little head. The doubts in her heart had been mostly washed away by the joy of the reunion.
Chu Siheng was disturbed by a nightmare and slowly opened his eyes. He didn't make a sound, but quietly got up and went out. In the dim moonlight, he saw Lu Zhaoxue with her long hair draped over her shoulders.
At this moment, Lu Zhaoxue's expression was exceptionally gentle and serene. She was gently stroking a puppy in her arms, her eyes filled with joyful smiles.
Chu Siheng gazed at Lu Zhaoxue silently, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
Chu Siheng knew that Lu Zhaoxue felt guilty towards him, thinking that it was because of her that he was deposed as crown prince and wasted his years in Jingyou Garden. But what Lu Zhaoxue didn't know was that he was happy to accept it.
