Chapter 29 Chu Siheng Recalls the Past

Chapter 29 Chu Siheng Recalls the Past

"Ah Xue, don't you understand what I really want?! Is my feeling so insignificant in your eyes?! Tell me!"

Chu Siheng's voice became hoarse from extreme excitement, and his face turned as pale as paper.

Startled, Lu Zhaoxue quickly helped Chu Siheng up and said, "Siheng, that's not what I meant."

Chu Siheng's eyes were bloodshot, his gaze fixed on Lu Zhaoxue, his voice filled with unspeakable pain: "Ah Xue, it's been four years. We've been together for four years, am I really so worthless in your heart?!"

Lu Zhaoxue felt as if her throat was blocked, and all her words turned into silence. She wanted to tell Chu Siheng her feelings loudly, but she couldn't!

She was burdened by the shackles of her past; she was truly unworthy of Chu Siheng, and she feared dragging him down with her into an abyss of no return.

Looking at the struggle and evasion in Lu Zhaoxue's eyes, Chu Siheng's heart sank. He asked in a trembling voice, "Ah Xue, tell me, do you... do you still love Chu Huaiyu?"

"Of course not!" Lu Zhaoxue immediately shook her head and said firmly, "I have no feelings for Chu Huaiyu whatsoever!"

"What about me? Ah Xue, tell me!" Chu Siheng's eyes lit up instantly, filled with cautious anticipation.

"Ah Xue, have you even the slightest feeling for me?"

Lu Zhaoxue felt a tightness in her heart under Chu Siheng's burning gaze, and she suddenly didn't want to suppress it anymore.

"Siheng, I...I have feelings for you. Can you wait for me a little longer? I..."

“I can wait for you.” Chu Siheng responded almost immediately, a smile instantly blooming on his face. He reached out and gently put his arm around Lu Zhaoxue’s shoulder, pulling her closer to him.

Chu Siheng's tone was so gentle it could melt your heart: "I'll wait for you, Xue, I'm willing to wait for you no matter how long it takes, even a lifetime."

Lu Zhaoxue half-closed her eyes, letting down her guard, and snuggled closer to Chu Siheng.

The crisp, herbal scent emanating from Chu Siheng filled Lu Zhaoxue's nostrils, warming her heart.

If only she had married Chu Siheng from the beginning! Chu Siheng wouldn't have had to waste so many years waiting, and they might have been living a peaceful and happy life long ago.

"Sister, brother-in-law! I just picked lots of pretty flowers in the backyard..."

Suddenly, Lu Zhaoxing's clear voice came from outside the door, accompanied by light footsteps. She rushed into the room with a smile.

But as soon as he finished speaking, Lu Zhaoxing saw Chu Siheng and Lu Zhaoxue sitting together. Lu Zhaoxing was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly raised his hand to cover his face and turned to run outside.

Lu Zhaoxue's cheeks flushed slightly. She tried to gently push Chu Siheng away, but Chu Siheng held her even tighter. He rested his chin on the top of her head and chuckled softly.

As Lu Zhaoxue nestled in his warm embrace, Chu Siheng suddenly felt a moment of disorientation, his memories uncontrollably drifting back to the past.

...

That year, twelve-year-old Chu Siheng had just come out of the Grand Tutor's place, and it was already very late at night.

Chu Siheng was strolling slowly back to the East Palace along the Imperial Garden, a piece of osmanthus cake still tucked into his sleeve.

Suddenly, a burst of cheerful laughter reached Chu Siheng's ears, and then a small figure, like a round little dumpling, crashed straight into Chu Siheng's arms.

The osmanthus cake fell to the ground with a "plop" and shattered into several pieces.

Chu Siheng subconsciously reached out to support the small body, and when he looked up, he met a pair of wet almond eyes.

The girl was Lu Zhaoxue. At that time, she had her hair styled in two buns, and the red rope tied to the buns swayed with her movements. There was a little sweat on her forehead, and her cheeks were rosy.

Behind Lu Zhaoxue were two little girls with the same double bun hairstyle, covering their mouths and giggling.

"I'm sorry!" Lu Zhaoxue was still dizzy from the impact. The night was rather dark, and she could only see the clothes of the person in front of her after she regained her balance.

The bright yellow trim and the black jade pendant were the kind of attire reserved for princes in the palace. Lu Zhaoxue was slightly taken aback. "I didn't mean to. I was just playing around with them and didn't see you..."

Chu Siheng looked down at her. The little girl's hair only reached his chest, and the whorl on her head was round, exuding an adorable childishness.

Seeing Lu Zhaoxue's panicked state, Chu Siheng gently comforted her, saying, "It's alright."

"What are you doing here so late?"

Lu Zhaoxue breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that there was no anger in his tone, and slowly said, "I went to the palace with my father for a banquet, but I found the banquet a bit boring, so I came out with them..."

Lu Zhaoxue seemed to suddenly realize something and said nothing more.

Chu Siheng knew her concerns and didn't ask any more questions. He just told them to be careful and go back quickly.

Lu Zhaoxue nodded, then turned and ran away.
