Mu Qiu nodded hesitantly. "I suddenly had an irregular heartbeat this morning and it was very uncomfortable. Sister, I may not have much time left to live."
Looking at Mu Qiu's young face, Song Ci felt complicated. For a moment, she thought about letting go of her hatred.
"I heard from my mother that Song Fei went to Congo." Mu Qiu suddenly mentioned Song Fei.
Hearing this, the little bit of pity in Song Ci's heart disappeared. She hummed and said, "He's been gone for more than a month."
Mu Qiu added, "It's very chaotic over in Congo. I saw news reports that there are often civil unrest and riots there, and many people have died."
Song Ci narrowed her eyes, remained silent, and stared at Mu Qiu meaningfully. After a while, Song Ci withdrew her gaze, picked up the thermos, and unscrewed the lid.
After taking a sip of hot water, Song Ci said, "That was Song Fei's own choice. Even if something unexpected happened, it was her fate."
Mu Qiu tilted his head to look at Song Ci and asked her, "Do you really think so? Aren't you worried about Song Fei?"
Song Ci: "Of course I'm worried, but Song Fei said that becoming a virus expert is her dream. She's so smart, she should benefit the country and humanity, I can't stop her."
Mu Qiu admired Song Fei a little. She leaned her head against the glass window and sighed, "How I envy her. She is so free and can do whatever she wants."
"Why should I envy her? Her job is full of dangers and it's not easy. Every time she sees a patient, she's wrapped up tightly. It's hot and stuffy."
"That's true."
When they arrived at the Mu family, Mu Qiu and Song Ci packed clothes for Du Tingting together.
"Where are the bed sheets? Which set should I choose?" Song Ci asked Mu Qiu.
Mu Qiu said, "There is a set with pink daisy patterns. Mom likes that one very much. I'll go find it." Mu Qiu squatted in front of the cabinet looking for sheets, while Song Ci was looking for a mite remover.
After searching the bedside table, Song Ci still couldn't find the mite remover. She asked Mu Qiu again, "I didn't see the mite remover. Do you know where it is?"
Without even looking up, Mu Qiu said, "It might be in the tool box downstairs. Aunt Zhang usually does the cleaning at home, and she's the one who uses the mite removal device."
"Then I'll go down and get it."
Song Ci went downstairs and found the mite remover in the hallway cabinet at the door of the nanny's room. She took the mite remover upstairs, but when she climbed the stairs, she was not careful and her foot slipped, causing her to fall flat on her face.
Song Ci slowly sat up, hugged her aching calf, and called Han Zhan with a grin: "Brother Han, Brother Han, I fell and got hurt."
Han Zhan was feeding koi in the Mu family's yard. When he heard the noise, he put down the fish food plate and ran into the house.
After picking up Song Ci and placing her on the sofa, Han Zhan lifted her jeans. The jeans were too tight, and the fabric pressed against Song Ci's wound, causing her to gasp in relief.
Han Zhan's movements were gentler, but he scolded, "Why are you wearing such tight pants? Are you afraid that others won't know how long and slender your legs are?"
"nice."
Han Zhan shook his head and stopped chatting with her.
Song Ci's shin had a purple bruise from the fall, but it wasn't a serious problem; the bone wasn't injured. "I'll rub it on you with medicinal wine later. It won't be a problem."
"good."
"I'm going upstairs to get something, you wait here."
"good."
Han Zhan came to the door of the master bedroom on the second floor and walked in without knocking. Mu Qiu had already packed her things. She thought it was Song Ci who came in, and said without turning her head, "Sister, everything is packed."
"Well, I'll bring it up."
A man's voice suddenly sounded behind her, and Mu Qiu was startled. She turned around, stared at Han Zhan in surprise, and asked, "Brother-in-law, it's you, where is my sister?"
Han Zhan said, "I accidentally bumped into something while going upstairs and hurt my calf. I'm resting downstairs. Where's the thing?"
Mu Qiu pointed at the two large LV handbags with monograms on the ground. "These two bags are."
Han Zhan bent down and easily lifted the two large bags with one hand. He walked out with the bags in his hands. Mu Qiu followed him and asked, "Sister, are you seriously injured?"
"Nothing serious."
When he was about to reach the stairwell, Han Zhan suddenly stopped.
Mu Qiu had been walking with her head tilted down, not noticing Han Zhan had stopped. She bumped her head against Han Zhan's back. "I'm sorry, brother-in-law."
Mu Qiu rubbed his forehead, took a step back, and looked up at Han Zhan in front of him, wondering why he suddenly stopped.
Han Zhan walked to the entrance of the corridor. He stared at the solid wooden stairs and suddenly said, "The stairs in your house are quite slippery. Two people fell in one day."
Mu Qiu looked towards the corridor in confusion. She said, "Really? I did fall a few times before, but I became more careful and never fell again."
Han Zhan glanced at her and said, "Everyone is always careless sometimes."
"Um."
When they got downstairs, Han Zhan squatted in front of Song Ci, turning his broad and strong back towards her. "Come up."
Seeing Han Zhan carrying two bags, Song Ci felt reluctant to press him. "I can walk by myself."
"Carrying you is like carrying a baby." Han Zhan put down his bag, held Song Ci's legs, and carried her on his back. "Hold on tight."
Han Zhan held the bag in one hand, held Song Ci's thigh with the other, and walked out the door.
Song Ci wrapped her arms around Han Zhan's neck, hooked her legs around Han Zhan's waist, and asked him, "Am I fat?"
Han Zhan: "I don't think so."
"I'm sorry." Han Zhan suddenly apologized.
Song Ci felt puzzled, "Why are you apologizing to me?"
Han Zhan explained, "Today was supposed to be a perfect date with you. I haven't carried you on my back for a walk along the river, watched the sunset together, had a couple's meal together, watched a movie, and kissed you goodnight."
"It's okay." Song Ci rubbed her cheek against Han Zhan's short hair. She said, "You are carrying me on your back now, so we have completed the part of the date where we carried each other for a walk."
"I always feel like I've wronged you." The first date left Han Zhan with regrets. He was thinking of finding an opportunity another day to make up for Song Ci with a perfect date.
When they were about to reach the car, Song Ci suddenly called out in a low voice: "Brother Han."
Han Zhan: "Yeah."
Song Ci: "There's a ghost on that staircase."
Han Zhan paused slightly, as if he was not surprised. He nodded and continued walking towards the car.
After putting Song Ci down, Han Zhan stuffed the things into the trunk. After watching Song Ci sit in the passenger seat and fasten her seat belt, Han Zhan sat in the driver's seat.
The car drove out of the Mu family's courtyard and could see the majestic gate of the Amethyst Capital. Han Zhan then asked Song Ci: "What did you find?"
Song Ci said: "Aunt Zhang said that my mother accidentally fell while going downstairs and fell all the way to the corner platform before stopping."
"So, my mother fell on the stairs at the corner of the second and first floors. I went up the stairs just now and deliberately walked in the middle, and that's why I fell."
"Walk in the middle?" Han Zhan noticed something strange and asked, "Why walk in the middle?"
Song Ci looked ahead at the car, trembling. She said, "Because my mother is used to walking in the middle when going up and down the stairs." Only those closest to her can remember these details.
