"Well, Huanyan wants to go back home for the holidays, so naturally my brother has to follow."
Count Ace laughed and said, "Is this what they call a wife following her husband's lead?"
Before Song Ci could speak, Du Xueyan interrupted, "Your Excellency's Chinese is very good. He even knows that the wife sings and the husband follows."
Chinese is a vast and profound language, and for ordinary foreigners to know the phrase "妇唱夫随" is quite remarkable. Only those who are proficient in Chinese can say such a phrase.
Earl Ace paused in serving the porridge and said nothing.
Du Xueyan glanced at him and lowered her head to put on her socks. Song Ci noticed that the atmosphere between the two was a little strange. She felt that Du Xueyan's attitude towards Earl Ace was not right.
Earl Ace is of noble status, and Du Xueyan is a very good person. Even if she doesn't like Earl Ace, she should politely and tactfully refuse Earl Ace's company.
But she neither rejected Earl Ace nor treated him kindly. Instead, she mocked him. This way of getting along...
They looked more like a couple having a quarrel.
Song Ci felt that she had guessed wrong again. Du Xueyan and Earl Ace didn't know each other before, so how could they have a quarrel?
Song Ci felt awkward being among them. She touched her pants with both hands and tried to find something to say, "Du Xueyan, are you going back to China to recuperate, or are you staying in the United States?"
Du Xueyan thought about it and said, "I still want to go back to my country." Even though her father already had another family, she still wanted to go back to her country.
Song Ci said, "Han Zhan and I will come to see you when you return. I have something else to do, so I'll leave first." After a pause, Song Ci looked at Earl Ace and said, "Earl Ace, you are also welcome to visit China."
Earl Ace nodded and watched Song Ci leave. Then he heard Du Xueyan ask, "Does the Earl know Song Ci?"
"Song Ci's eldest brother and I have been friends for many years."
Du Xueyan nodded and said nothing more.
After eating the fish porridge, Du Xueyan felt warm in her stomach. She put a scarf around her neck, picked up the cane beside her, and prepared to go out.
Seeing this, Earl Ace held up an umbrella and followed Du Xueyan.
Du Xueyan looked up at the umbrella above her head, and thought of the countless days when it rained and snowed, and there was someone who held an umbrella for her, and she felt sad.
After getting in the car, Earl Ace and Du Xueyan both sat in the back seat, and the driver was a strange brown-haired woman.
Du Xueyan closed her eyes, looking exhausted. Seeing Du Xueyan pinching her legs, Earl Ace asked, "Are you tired?"
Du Xueyan: "I haven't walked for a long time, I'm not used to it." Du Xueyan's legs were shaking, but she was able to suppress it, so it didn't look obvious.
Earl Ace could understand that feeling. When he first woke up, he felt weak all over, his muscles were soft, and his legs would tremble violently after walking a few steps with the help of crutches.
"Let me massage you." Earl Ace said, and he took the initiative to hold Du Xueyan's slender legs, put them on his legs, and massaged them with moderate strength, not too light or too heavy.
Du Xueyan wanted to struggle, but when she turned her head and saw Earl Ace's serious expression, she suddenly calmed down. Du Xueyan kept silent and let Earl Ace serve her.
Count Ace seemed to have learned massage techniques. Under his kneading, Du Xueyan's muscles really relaxed and gradually stopped shaking.
The car drove for more than two hours before it stopped.
Earl Ace reminded the drowsy Du Xueyan: "We're here, Miss Du."
Du Xueyan fell asleep without saying a word.
Earl Ace called out again, "Miss Du, we're here."
Du Xueyan remained silent. The car's heater was on, stirring the fine hair on her forehead. Her mouth was slightly open, and her breathing was light and slow.
Earl Ace looked at her sweet sleeping face and tickled her with his fingers.
He slowly raised his right arm and gently touched Du Xueyan's eyebrows.
Up ahead, the driver saw this scene, his eyes filled with surprise. However, knowing how ferocious and terrifying Count Ace was, and having discovered his ill intentions towards Miss Du, he didn't dare to say anything and just pretended he saw nothing.
Suddenly, Du Xueyan's eyelids twitched.
Count Ace pulled his hand back abruptly as if he had been electrocuted.
Du Xueyan felt an itch on her forehead, as if a feather had scratched it, so she scratched it gently. Count Ace noticed her little movement and felt guilty again.
"Ms. Du, we have arrived at our destination."
"Are we there yet?" Du Xueyan turned her head to look out the window, and saw a cemetery with a beautiful scenery comparable to a park.
"Thank you, Your Excellency." Du Xueyan opened the car door herself, and when she got out, her legs gave way and she nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, Earl Ace had been paying attention to her and immediately reached out his hands to Du Xueyan, hugging her armpits from behind.
Du Xueyan leaned back in Earl Ace's arms, her legs weakly touching the ground. She smoothed her messy hair, held the car door with one hand, and then thanked Earl Ace: "Thank you, Your Excellency."
"Be careful."
Count Ace helped her out of the car.
The driver handed the cane to Du Xueyan. Du Xueyan held the cane and took the white chrysanthemums handed to her by the driver.
She held the bouquet in her left hand and the cane in her right. She raised her leg to enter the cemetery, but she heard Earl Ace ask, "You really don't need me to accompany you?"
Du Xueyan turned her head and looked at him. After a while, she nodded and said, "Okay."
Du Xueyan actually agreed to his request to go with him, and Earl Ace was surprised again. Why did she suddenly become so easy to talk to?
