"Liansheng, now that the war in the north has subsided, I will settle down in Kyoto. Liansheng, you are a great doctor, but it would be a waste of your talent to stay with me. The world is vast and the sky is high. You should make other plans."
The starlight in Mo Liansheng's eyes dimmed gradually. He sighed, "For so many years, I've been by the general's side. Even so, I can't replace that person's place in the general's heart, right?"
"yes!"
Mo Liansheng clenched his fists again. "I understand, General."
On the second day, Mo Liansheng bid farewell to his master, Doctor Zhou, and left Kyoto with some money, preparing to travel to Shu.
He rode a fierce horse out of the city and saw a carriage by a small river.
The carriage was parked in the middle of the road, blocking Mo Liansheng's path. Mo Liansheng had no choice but to dismount, lead the horse to the front of the carriage, and asked with a bow, "I wonder who is in the carriage? Could you please make way for me?"
The carriage curtain was drawn aside, and a man in a black robe with a dragon pattern stepped out, bending over. Seeing the man's majestic presence, Mo Lian was startled and quickly knelt down to kowtow.
"I, Mo Liansheng, pay my respects to His Majesty the Emperor. May our Emperor live forever!"
This was not the first time that Mo Liansheng saw the emperor. A few days ago, when he returned to the capital with Nangong Xian and others, he saw the emperor's face from afar under the city wall.
Mo Liansheng couldn't understand why the emperor appeared in front of him, and he didn't dare to ask, so he knelt on the ground respectfully, waiting for the emperor to speak.
"Mo Liansheng." When his name came out of the emperor's mouth, Mo Liansheng felt as if his bones were licked by a poisonous snake, and they were cold to the bone.
"The common people are here."
Dugu Jie stared at the young man on the ground. He felt a little jealous of him. He was jealous that he could follow Nangong Xian, serve her at her side, and share her worries.
"You've been by General Nangong's side through thick and thin these past few years. Thank you for your hard work."
Mo Liansheng hurriedly said, "It's not hard for me! I am fortunate to be able to serve the general!"
"It is indeed a great honor!" Dugu Jie laughed meaningfully, and then asked the eunuch dressed as a man to bring a bowl of wine.
Dugu Jie pointed at Mo Liansheng and said, "Mo Liansheng, you have made great contributions to the great general who protects the country over the years. I personally give you a bowl of fine wine and wish you a safe journey to Shu!"
Mo Liansheng's body stiffened and his fingers almost dug into the mud.
He raised his head and stared at the bowl of wine in his father-in-law's hand, his cheeks pale.
He knew in his heart that the emperor must have known of his love for General Nangong and was coming to punish him. Mo Liansheng stared at the bowl of wine, feeling that if he drank it, he would die.
Seeing that Mo Liansheng hadn't taken any action, Chen Desheng sullenly questioned him, "Why? The emperor gave you wine, and you dare not drink it?"
"I dare not!"
Mo Liansheng quickly stood up and took the wine from Chen Desheng's hand with both hands. He closed his eyes and drank the wine in one gulp, saying respectfully, "Thank you, Your Majesty!"
