They both turned around and said, "We've already eaten."
Yan Jiang stared at the small hoe in Han Jun's hand and asked her, "What are you doing with a hoe?"
Han Jun said, "Digging for earthworms."
"Huh? Where to dig?"
Han Jun picked up his hoe and dug a hole in the lawn in the front yard of the Han family's house. Han Jun squatted on the lawn and told Yan Jiang, "There are earthworms underneath."
Yan Jiang clicked his tongue twice and decided to ignore the two little girls.
Arriving at the restaurant, Yan Jiang complained to Song Ci, "Are your two girls planning to keep that goose as a pet? They're even digging earthworms for her to eat. Your lawn will be dug up sooner or later."
Song Ci's appetite increased greatly, and she was particularly craving the braised pig's trotter. She picked up a piece of the fat but not greasy pig's trotter and put it in the bowl, and said to Yan Jiang: "Han Zhan wants Junjun to raise a pet to cultivate her love."
Yan Jiang also knew that Han Jun was a bit cold-hearted, so he said, "But you can't dig up the lawn either."
"It's okay. Grass will grow back even if you dig it up."
"Just pamper them."
Song Ci made Yan Jiang a plate of his favorite onion scrambled eggs, and he finished half of it by himself. After eating his fill, Yan Jiang ate some grapes while telling Song Ci what happened last night.
As Song Ci listened, the smile on her face suddenly disappeared.
Yan Jiang peeled a grape and placed the flesh on the plate in front of Song Ci. When he looked up, he noticed that Song Ci's expression was not right.
"What's wrong with you? Are you scared?" Yan Jiang thought that Song Ci was easily frightened after getting pregnant, and was frightened by what he said.
Song Ci suddenly gave Butler Cai a look.
Butler Cai understood her look and quickly sent all the servants away, and he himself also left.
Seeing Butler Cai and the others push away, Yan Jiang was suspicious. He looked at Song Ci with confusion and asked, "You dispersed all the servants. What do you want to tell me?"
"You just said that the forensic doctor named Yang Chong said that the deceased child didn't commit suicide by lying on the railway tracks, but was insulted, drugged, thrown onto the tracks, and then crushed to death?"
"Um."
Song Ci asked again: "The murderer is most likely Li Mang's nephew Li Feng, right?"
Yan Jiang nodded again, "It's just a guess. But Li Mang is someone who values his reputation so much that he wouldn't take such a risk for someone else. I think this Li Feng is most likely the murderer."
Song Ci picked up the sour plum juice and took a sip, then licked her soft lips uneasily.
"What's wrong with you?" Yan Jiang felt uneasy at Song Ci's questions. "Song Song, do you know something?"
Song Ci licked her lips again.
She pinched the napkin on the table in her palm, pulling it tightly, and her breathing became disordered.
Yan Jiang stared at her flustered look, and suspicions began to grow in his heart. "Song Song, if you know anything, you can tell me. You can trust me."
"Of course I believe you, but I'm a little confused right now. I've guessed a few things, but I dare not draw any conclusions."
"Ah Jiang, let me ask you again." Song Ci moved closer to Yan Jiang and asked him, "In which year did the incident Yang Chong mentioned happen?"
Yan Jiang said: "Eight years ago."
Song Ci's expression was even more solemn.
"Eight years ago..." She took out her phone from her purse, opened the browser search bar, and asked Yan Jiang again: "Was the child's suicide reported in the news?"
"Yes, if you search for the keywords 'Nanxing City suicide by lying on the railway tracks', you can find the news."
"Then let me take a look."
Song Ci followed Yan Jiang's instructions and entered the keyword to search. Sure enough, she found several old reports. Song Ci clicked on them and went straight to the time of the news report.
November 8, 2015.
Song Ci looked at the numbers on the date and fell into deep thought.
Yan Jiang didn't bother her. He ate his grapes quietly by himself. After eating about five or six grapes, he heard Song Ci say, "Eight years ago, when I was 17, winter came very early in the north. It was very cold in November. I even wore a down jacket."
Yan Jiang couldn't remember clearly what happened eight years ago.
He thought for a moment and said, "I have no impression."
"But I was very impressed." Song Ci pinched the wrinkled napkin again. She looked at her daughters playing happily through the open door and said as she recalled, "In November 2015, Li Feng invited many people to Nanxing City to celebrate the birthday of his celebrity girlfriend. To accommodate everyone's schedule, he set the celebration date on the 7th."
"I remember it very clearly. November 7th of that year was a Saturday. After the Saturday night party, everyone had to go back to East City on Sunday. I was just entering my third year of high school at the time, and it was a busy time for study. If it hadn't been a Saturday, I wouldn't have been able to go. So I remember it very clearly."
When Yan Jiang heard this, he thought of what Song Ci had told him that day. Song Ci said that she saw Li Feng, Gu Qinchuan and others bullying a girl at a birthday party that Li Feng hosted for his girlfriend, an artist.
Yan Jiang belatedly understood something, and his eyes widened. "You mean..."
Yan Jiang crushed the grape in his hand and asked in astonishment, "Do you suspect that the scene you saw on the cruise ship that year was the result of this unjust case?"
Song Ci and Yan Jiang looked at each other, their eyes filled with tears.
Yan Jiang shook his head, comforting Song Ci and himself, "Maybe you remembered it wrongly."
Song Ci: "The birthday party was held on the night of November 7th, and the cruise ship docked around 5:00 a.m. And the girl who died unjustly was found at 7:00 a.m. on November 8th!"
