As a first-tier city in China, Wangdong City holds several large and small auctions every year. Some are purely charitable auctions, while others are for the purpose of making money.
Among the wealthy families in Wangdong City, the Cheng family, the Gu family, the Li family and the Dongfang family are the most representative.
The Cheng family started out with bicycles fifty years ago, producing the then-popular "Chuandong" brand bicycles. They subsequently expanded, establishing motorcycle companies and now becoming a leading domestic automobile brand.
Gu's Electric, as the name suggests, made its fortune by selling electrical appliances. In the 1990s, almost every well-off family would buy their TVs. Even now, their products are still the first choice for many families.
The old man of the Li family was a gangster when he was young, and later founded Fengmang Entertainment Film and Television. After years of operation, it has now become a film and television company on par with Empire Entertainment.
Of these four, the one that truly qualifies as a super-class family is the Dongfang family. A two-century-old enterprise, the Dongfang family was once a nationally renowned chain of pawnshops in the late Qing Dynasty, known as Tailong Pawnshop.
Later, due to the turmoil in the country, many pawnshops closed down, leaving only two in Jingdu and Wangdong City. When the war ended and the country was at peace, Mr. Dongfang, the great-grandfather of the current head of the family, Dongfang Lin, Dongfang Sheng, resolutely transformed the Tailong Pawnshop into the Tailong Auction House.
Today, Tyrone Auction House has become a renowned auction company both in China and around the world.
On this day, the photography studio delivered the finished family portrait to the villa. Song Ci and housekeeper Cai ordered the maids to hang the family portrait on the wall.
While they were busy, a man suddenly ran into the room and handed an invitation to Butler Cai. Butler Cai walked over to Song Ci with the invitation and said to her, "Madam, this is an invitation from Tailong Auction House."
Below the invitation letter, there is also an auction item brochure.
Song Ci took the invitation and booklet, walked to the lounge chair in the courtyard and sat down. Just as she was about to open the book, she heard the footsteps of Han Miao and Han Jun.
"Mother!"
Han Miao threw herself at Song Ci's thighs and complained to her, "Junjun won't play dominoes with me!"
Han Jun's small round face was full of contempt and disdain. She said, "It's boring and not fun." She would never play such a boring game.
The two sisters bickered every day, and Song Ci was used to it. She picked up her daughters and placed them on her lap, changing the subject to divert their attention. "Come, let's see what's good in this book."
"good."
Han Miao held the book in his small palms, and Han Jun helped turn the pages with Song Ci's guidance.
After flipping through five or six pages, Song Ci didn't see anything she liked. "They're all jewelry. There's nothing I particularly want." There was so much jewelry in the world, it was impossible for Song Ci to collect it all, and she wasn't particularly interested.
Han Miao, however, took a fancy to a brooch. She pointed at it and said, "This one looks good, Mom, buy it!"
“Okay, buy it!”
Song Ci asked Butler Cai to bring a pen and drew a tick under the brooch, then asked Han Jun to continue looking through the books. Song Ci saw another pearl necklace at the back, which was described as the favorite necklace of the Queen of King R.
Song Ci thought that this pearl necklace suited Han Wangwang very well, so she also ticked the box under the necklace.
Towards the back, there were no more jewellery, but some antiques. "It's not good, I'm going to play dominoes!" Han Miao lost interest in watching, slid down from Song Ci's legs, and ran to play dominoes.
Han Jun wanted to bask in the sun with her mother for a while longer, so she moved into Song Ci's arms and continued to help Song Ci turn the pages of the book.
Turning to the last page, Han Jun saw a sword.
It was a long, slender sword, its hilt and scabbard pure black. It was unknown what color the blade inside was. Song Ci exclaimed, "I'm surprised this thing still exists at auction these days. But it looks so ordinary, who would buy it?" She glanced at the starting price and was immediately shocked by the high price.
"A sword like this, and the starting price is one million, isn't this robbery?" Song Ci was about to close the booklet when a soft and gentle childish voice suddenly said, "Mom, I want it."
Song Ci was surprised.
She lowered her head to look at Han Jun in her arms, and Han Jun also looked at Song Ci with her fair and beautiful little face.
Han Jun said again: "Mom, I want it."
Song Ci closed the book and asked Han Jun: "Why? You are so young, what do you need this thing for? Otherwise, I will buy you a necklace and keep it for you to wear when you grow up?"
Han Jun shook her head, pointed at the cover of the booklet, and said paranoidly: "I want that sword." An intuition told Han Jun that she needed that sword.
Song Ci said, "I'll think about it."
Han Jun nodded and slid down from Song Ci's legs. She walked towards the house, walked a little way, stopped, turned around, and told Song Ci seriously and earnestly: "Mom, I want it."
Song Ci nodded.
She knew that Han Jun was a little different from ordinary children. Han Jun insisted on having this sword, perhaps this sword had some inhuman qualities.
Song Ci went to Yan Qingxiu's room.
Yan Qingzheng was sitting cross-legged on the carpet meditating. When he heard a knock on the door, he slowly opened his eyes and got up to open the door.
Song Ci stared at the rug on the wooden floor of his room and couldn't help but smile, "Meditating again?" Yan Qingxiu would meditate for an hour or two every day, and Song Ci was used to it.
"Well, it's almost over." Yan Qingxiu took a step back barefoot and invited Song Ci into the house.
Song Ci stuffed the booklet into Yan Qingxiu's arms and said, "Open the last page."
