Chapter 22 Horse

Pei Yang had returned to the palace long ago, leaving the carriage and the driver with them. Pei Yuan stuck his head out and said a few words to the driver, who responded, turned his horse around, and drove for another half an hour before arriving at a farm.

It was getting dark, and the dusk was shrouding the sky. Bao Ning opened the curtain and looked out. It was a large horse farm. The early spring grass had not yet grown, and it was a velvety light green. Through the railings, several tall horses could be seen grazing with their heads down.

At the innermost side was a row of tiled houses. It was cooking time, and smoke was curling up from the chimney. There was no wind tonight, so the smoke was straight up.

A huge sunset was behind the tiled houses, and the smoke turned golden.

There was a sound of galloping horses. Bao Ning tilted her head and saw a group of young people in gorgeous clothes riding on horses, shouting and running over, making a lot of noise. Bao Ning rarely went out, let alone to the horse farm. It was the first time she saw such a scene. She couldn't take her eyes off it and followed those people until they walked around and disappeared. She came back to her senses.

She was also infected by the passion of those people. She was a little excited, but confused. She turned to look at Pei Yuan: "What are we here for?"

Pei Yuan stretched out his hand to her: "Help me down first."

Bao Ning responded, got off the car first, and moved the wheelchair down with the driver, and then helped Pei Yuan.

Pei Yuan held her arm, squinted his eyes and looked into the distance, with an expression on his face that Bao Ning could not understand. He stood there for a long time before sitting down and speaking slowly: "Come in."

Bao Ning did not know what Pei Yuan was thinking. He guessed that he felt uncomfortable after listening to Aunt Ming's words during the day, and wanted to take a ride, or perhaps he was nostalgic for the old days.

Pei Yuan must have been a very good rider in the past, but now his legs are not good, and he does not know if he can ride a horse again in the future.

Baoning understood him, but was a little hesitant: "Will they let us in..."

She reached for the money in her sleeve, put it in her palm and counted it: "Not much left, I'm afraid it's not enough."

Pei Yuan looked at her quietly, Baoning counted the money again, and asked: "Fourth Prince, how much money do you have left?" She began to regret spending too much during the day and not bringing so much money in the morning.

"Should we pay the bill? I'm a little embarrassed." Baoning frowned and tried to persuade him, "Or, let's come back in two days."

Pei Yuan touched his left cheek with the tip of his tongue, and spoke after a long while: "Am I a pauper in your heart?"

Baoning rubbed his hands awkwardly, not knowing how to answer him.

Maybe the first sight is really important. On the first day Bao Ning married him, he lived in a small shabby house, covered with a torn quilt, and looked sloppy. So in her heart, Pei Yuan must have been destitute.

But in the daytime, he clearly gave her a gold ingot so readily.

Pei Yuan stayed for a while, didn't see her talking, and didn't wait any longer. He pointed to the gate and said, "Go in."

Bao Ning pushed him in. Fortunately, no one blocked the way.

The young men who were riding horses just now might be tired. They got off the horses and walked out in groups, talking and laughing all the way. They were about to pass by the two of them. Bao Ning remembered the discussion in Qingzhu Lane, frowned, turned the wheelchair around, and used his back to block Pei Yuan's figure so that no one could see him.

Pei Yuan saw the simple protective action clearly in the shadow. He smiled silently, then put it away. He pointed his chin behind the row of tiled houses and instructed, "Go there."

Bao Ning responded and pushed him over there. Pei Yuan seemed to be very familiar with this place. She felt much more relaxed, thinking that Pei Yuan might know the shopkeeper of this shop and he would not be chased out.

She was still very concerned about her reputation and did not want to do anything embarrassing.

After passing the tiled houses, everything in front of her surprised Bao Ning. An almost endless grassland stretched as if it bordered the mountains in front. There were stables on both sides. It was estimated that there were at least a hundred horses. Someone was feeding them with hay baskets. There were too many horses and the wind brought a strong smell of horse manure with a hint of grass.

Baoning wrinkled her nose and couldn't help but snorted.

Pei Yuan chuckled, looked up at her, and mouthed, "You are useless."

Baoning pinched his clothes lightly behind his neck as if to express her anger. She tiptoed to look into the distance, thinking it was new and beautiful. After looking for a while, she lowered her head and asked, "Are we here to enjoy the scenery?"

Pei Yuan said, "I'll give you a horse."

Baoning was surprised, "I can't ride it."

Pei Yuan said, "It's very obedient and smart, and it will listen to you." He

said it in a mysterious way. Baoning didn't believe it, "Do you know it?"

Pei Yuan didn't answer, but raised his hand to his lips and blew a whistle. The sound was too loud, so Baoning covered her ears. Pei Yuan blew again, and those who were feeding the horses looked over.

Someone noticed that there was a stranger in the horse farm, so he put down his basket and walked over here with a bad look on his face.

Bao Ning was nervous and grabbed the armrest of Pei Yuan's wheelchair, thinking that if the man came to chase her, she would apologize and quickly take Pei Yuan away.

Suddenly, the sound of horse hooves was heard in the distance, briskly, getting closer and closer. Bao Ning looked in the direction of the sound and saw a very tall black horse running over at a very fast speed. The afterglow of the setting sun outlined the light around it.

The guy who wanted to chase the man heard the sound and hurriedly hid to the side, but was still affected and stumbled to the ground.

After just a few breaths, the horse came like the wind and was already in front of Pei Yuan. Bao Ning opened her mouth in surprise and looked up at its eyes.

As big as a copper bell, the black horse blew air from its nose, all of which sprayed on Baoning's face, blowing up her hair, making it damp and smelly.

Baoning then realized that she was afraid, screamed, and hid on Pei Yuan's other side, but the horse ignored her, lowered its head, and came to Pei Yuan's face to let him touch it.

Pei Yuan scratched its nose, and the black horse raised its head and snorted, then lowered its head and rubbed his hand.

Such a tall and big horse, when it came to Pei Yuan, was intimate and obedient like a child. Baoning felt it was incongruous, but also warm. She was an easily moved person. Seeing this scene, she couldn't bear it. Her eyes were red and she wanted to cry, but she held it back and asked Pei Yuan in a low voice: "Is this your horse?"

Pei Yuan said: "It's called Saifeng."

He pulled Baoning's wrist, covered her palm with hers, and took her to touch it: "Don't be afraid, it's fierce to outsiders, but very good to relatives."

Baoning wanted to hide, but she was curious. Pei Yuan's hands were dry and warm, making people feel safe. Baoning succumbed to her restless heart, relaxed, and touched it.

The rough short hair was a little prickly. The black horse stared at her, with no intention of attacking.

Baoning smiled, and was no longer afraid. She called its name sweetly: "Saifeng?"

Pei Yuan said: "It turns out that it is my life. I treat it better than my own son."

"How can you talk like that? How can you compare a horse to a child?" Baoning asked with a smile, "You like it so much, why don't you take it with you?"

Pei Yuan said, "I thought I was not worthy of it."

Baoning realized that he had said the wrong thing and felt regretful. He opened his mouth to say something, but then he heard Pei Yuan say,

"It's yours now."

The breeze carried his voice into his ears. Baoning felt that Pei Yuan had a hidden meaning in his words. The touch that flashed through his heart was gone in an instant.

Bao Ning blinked: "This is not good..."

Before he finished speaking, an old man called from behind, cautiously testing: "Fourth Prince?"

Bao Ning turned around with Pei Yuan. It was an old man in brown shorts, about fifty or sixty years old, with a sad face. He was just testing, but after seeing Pei Yuan's true face, tears flowed down.

Bao Ning was shocked to cry. The old man knelt down and saluted, crying: "Fourth Prince, you are finally here, I thought you..."

"Uncle Xiang, please stand up." Pei Yuan reached out to help him, he was sitting in a wheelchair and couldn't reach him, Bao Ning helped him. The old man asked: "Who is this?"

Pei Yuan glanced at Bao Ning and said lightly: "It's my wife."

He called her Madam, Bao Ning was embarrassed, and smiled shyly.

Feng Xiang praised, "The Fourth Prince's wife is so beautiful. She looks good."

Pei Yuan said, "I'm here to take Sifeng home. Thank you for taking care of her during this period. Now that I've picked her up, I'm leaving."

"Will you stay for a while? I just cooked dinner at home." Feng Xiang was anxious and said, "Fourth Prince, this horse farm was originally entrusted to me by you. Now that you've returned safely, it's time to return it to its original owner..."

Pei Yuan interrupted him, "No need." He patted Baoning's hand, indicating that he was leaving. Sifeng kicked the horse's hoof and followed behind.

Baoning didn't understand a few words of the conversation in the mist. When Pei Yuan wanted to leave, she pushed him.

Feng Xiang chased for a few steps: "Fourth Prince, please wait a moment, I'll ask my son to take you back."

Pei Yuan frowned and was about to refuse, but Feng Xiang waved his hand at him: "It's not a problem. It's dark and the way is long. My son is free, so let him take you back."

He ran towards the row of tiled houses, calling out: "Yongjia, Yongjia, a distinguished guest is coming, you go and see him off."

In the innermost room, Liu Yongjia pulled up his sleeves with his hands, looking at the bearded man in front of him with some fear. When he heard his father calling him, he stretched his neck to agree, but when he looked at the man in front of him, he shuddered and dared not speak.

"What does your useless father want from you again?" The bearded Xu Guang took a sip of wine, stepped on the stool, spat, and shouted, "I'll give you three more days. Either sell the horse farm and pay me back, or I'll kill your whole family."
