The four of them had a pleasant afternoon and parted ways happily, even making plans to get together again sometime.
The goal of ensuring that only Wang Haotian was injured has been achieved.
When Chu Tianling arrived at the Imperial Study, he saw his father, the Emperor, reviewing memorials. After exchanging greetings, he looked up and asked, "My son, what brings you here?"
Chu Tianling immediately called Zhang Jie over and told him everything that had happened in Jiangnan.
Chu Batian leaned back in his seat, his eyes closed, seemingly recalling something.
The Liu family!
I never imagined that the person from back then would become so different now. It's true that wealth can corrupt one's will.
"Father, I request permission to go to Jiangnan and eradicate this malignant tumor in one fell swoop!"
Chu Tianling looked at the person who had closed his eyes and was deep in thought, and wondered if he was worried about Consort Liu.
After all, Consort Liu had given him a son.
His face turned cold, and his gaze toward his father carried a hint of icy intent.
Chu Batian had just opened his eyes when he saw that look in his eyes. After a moment's thought, he understood what the man was thinking. He got angry, grabbed the inkstone on the table, threw it at him, and cursed loudly.
"You unfilial son! What kind of look was that? It was like you were looking at a dog on the street! I'm your father!!!"
Chu Tianling knew something was wrong the moment he saw the look in his eyes. Seeing his posture, he quickly crouched down and safely escaped.
Poor Zhang Jie was standing behind His Highness the Crown Prince, and before he could figure out what was happening, he was hit in the chest by a flying inkstone, which splattered ink all over him.
What a dog! You two are arguing, what does it have to do with me? You're acting like you're sick in the head.
Chu Batian glared at his rebellious son, then looked at Zhang Jie with some embarrassment: "Hehe, Lord Zhang, are you alright? Should I call a royal physician to take a look at you?"
Zhang Jie remained calm, his voice completely still: "Your Majesty, I am fine, but these clothes are rather inappropriate. I shall take my leave and go back to tidy them up."
"Yes, yes! You can go now!" Chu Batian felt ashamed; it was all this brat's fault.
After everyone left, only Chu Tianling remained. He sighed and called the person over.
"come over!"
Chu Batian had a large seat, so he moved to the side, leaving half of it empty, and patted the seat.
Chu Tianling observed his face for a long time before slowly moving closer.
"What are you dawdling for? Come here quickly, I have something to tell you!" Chu Batian shouted, unable to stand it any longer.
Chu Tianling sat on the side, feeling the large hand patting him on the back. If it weren't for the loving smile on his face, he would have really suspected that he was doing it on purpose.
"Father, please tell me what's wrong. I've been away for so long. What will Jiaojiao do at home if she misses me? I need to go back to be with her as soon as possible."
"You good-for-nothing! You've forgotten your father now that you have a wife. I'm standing right in front of you, and you're saying this to me?"
"You have a wife too, you don't need to envy me!"
"You! You have no respect for your elders." Although Chu Batian's tone was somewhat harsh, he had a smile on his face.
He wasn't angry at all; it felt so good to be full of energy!
I have something to tell you!
"What is it? Speak quickly."
"Chu Tianyang is not my son."
Chu Tianling turned his head and looked at him carefully. What had he just said?
Somewhat uncertainly, he asked, "Father, is what you just said true? What do you mean?"
Chu Batian showed no sadness whatsoever, as if he were talking about something else entirely.
"My father, who is also your imperial grandfather, met the head of the Liu family in Jiangnan back then. Later, the head of the Liu family donated countless gold and silver, which enabled the Jiangnan flood to be successfully overcome and saved countless people."
"Later, the head of the Liu family did not ask for any reward. He only said that he wanted his newborn granddaughter to enter the palace, and he agreed."
Upon hearing this, Chu Tianling thought there was nothing special about it.
"Then how do you know Chu Tianyang isn't your son?"
Chu Batian's tone was somewhat heavy as he revealed a secret: "Haven't you noticed? The Chu family has few descendants. It is said that when the founding ancestors conquered the country, it was left devastated. The ancestors made a solemn vow, willing to exchange the fortunes of the Chu family's descendants for peace in the world. Therefore, the Chu family has fewer and fewer descendants, until later it was a single line of heirs. When it came to you, you were the only one left."
"Normally, you should have been released at 20, so I wouldn't have revealed this secret. Anyway, the country needs someone to continue to protect it. As long as the other party is not an evil person and is dedicated to serving the people, I'll let it go."
"I didn't expect you to be so lucky and survive."
Chu Batian looked at him very seriously, and he was telling the truth.
Chu Tianling was furious: "No way, is my ancestor out of his mind? What right does he have to use my fortune as leverage? Did he even ask for my opinion? So all these years of my poor health are his fault!"
Chu Batian didn't understand why his ancestor was so angry. His ancestor was acting for the country and the people; it was a matter of great righteousness.
He didn't know that Chu Tianling had struggled hopelessly in bed eighteen times, and his feelings were indeed different from his.
"You still haven't said how you know Chu Tianyang isn't yours." His voice was calm; if it weren't for wanting to know the answer, he would have left long ago.
"Because I never touched Consort Liu. After I learned about the family curse and the truth, I planned to ignore her for a few years and let her leave the palace when she found someone she liked."
“I gave her a hallucinogenic drug back then. She didn’t know the truth. I just didn’t expect that she would later tell me that she was pregnant and gave birth to a boy.”
“If he were truly a member of the Chu family, he should also be cursed. But look at him, he has no problems at all.”
Chu Tianling didn't want to listen to his rambling anymore; his heart was filled with intense hatred.
A plume of black smoke emanated from his body and swept towards Chu Batian.
