Chapter 18 The Chess Incident

Chunhua nodded repeatedly: "It is said that the master played chess with His Highness the Crown Prince. He lost the first game miserably, but he was not convinced and insisted on playing another game with him."

After saying that, his smile became brighter and he continued, "His Highness the Crown Prince lost the second round very quickly, but the Master was not satisfied with winning and said he wanted to play another round."

"Hahaha!" Shen Jiaojiao burst into laughter, clearly indicating she was trying to escape because she thought his technique was too poor. She asked with great interest, "And then what happened?"

Seeing her happy made Chunhua happy too, her eyes crinkling with laughter: "You know how bad Master is at chess. Later, His Highness the Crown Prince deliberately lost three games in a row, but Master got really excited! He insisted on having His Highness instruct him on his skills, even though His Highness was clearly letting him win!"

"Hahaha," Shen Jiaojiao couldn't stop laughing at the thought of that scene. It seemed that Chu Tianling had tried to flatter him, but ended up getting stuck with him and couldn't shake him off.

Just thinking about it makes me laugh.

Shen Jiaojiao quickly finished her meal, put down her chopsticks, and said, "Let's go! Let's go to the study to see His Highness the Crown Prince!"

Chu Tianling wore a stiff smile, wondering why it was so difficult to spend time with Jiaojiao.

He originally planned to finish the game quickly, and Shen Wanshan should understand what he meant, so he could take the opportunity to leave.

But this guy wouldn't have it. He thought, "So what if I lose one game? I'll fight for Jiaojiao as soon as possible!"

This guy actually got addicted, and even dared to teach him how to download it! I don't want to stay here a second longer, Jiaojiao, oh Jiaojiao, I really miss you!

When she looked up, she suddenly saw her beloved smiling beautifully in front of her. He had a smile on his face, his skin was as white as snow with a slight pink tinge, his small mouth was curved up, and his eyes were sparkling as he looked at her.

He stared blankly, unconsciously muttering, "Jiaojiao!"

Shen Wanshan was still pontificating when he looked up at his silly face, his senses returned, and he turned around and saw Shen Jiaojiao, recalling his foolish actions.

Only then did he belatedly realize that the other person had just been going easy on him, and he had actually gotten out of breath. Fortunately, his face was dark, so you couldn't tell he was blushing.

He coughed lightly, placed his hand on his abdomen, and said expressionlessly, "Ahem! It's getting late, Jiaojiao, you and your husband should get some rest too!"

Chu Tianling had long since given up on pretending. Now that he could leave, he immediately stood up, bowed to Shen Wanshan, and said, "Father-in-law, I'll be leaving now. I'll play chess with you again next time!"

"Okay! Go ahead!" After Shen Wanshan and the others had walked away, his back, which had been straight all day, finally bent over.

He slapped his head and muttered under his breath, "Are you stupid?! You might as well die of idiocy! Huh!"

After I calmed down and went back to my room, I was thinking before I went to sleep that it was a good thing this happened in the study, so no one saw it and no one knew about it.

He was unaware that the news had already spread throughout the mansion, and he was the only one who could comfort himself and still sleep soundly.

Chu Tianling held Shen Jiaojiao's hand and strolled back to their room. It was already dark, and red lanterns hung in the corridor. A gentle breeze carried the faint fragrance of Shen Jiaojiao.

It was just an ordinary night, but because of the different people around him, he felt relaxed and at peace. He wished the journey would never end.

"I'm sorry you had to see my dad today. He's terrible at games and loves to play. Don't let him get away with this next time, or he'll never stop." Shen Jiaojiao's voice was soft and sweet, like honey to Chu Tianling's ears.

Is this what conversations between husband and wife are like? If we communicate more, she'll definitely love me more, right?

"Well, my father-in-law just wants someone to play chess with him. I'll spend more time with him whenever I have free time!" Chu Tianling thought that being nice to his father-in-law should dispel the unpleasantness he felt before the wedding.

Back in her room, Shen Jiaojiao couldn't fall asleep again. She had taken a long nap during the day and now felt wide awake, full of energy.

Lying in bed, Shen Jiaojiao kept thinking, "Modern times are so much better! There's TV, cell phones, games, and all kinds of delicious food." The more she thought about it, the more excited she became.

Chu Tianling had no idea what Shen Jiaojiao was thinking. He suddenly realized that he didn't seem to know her well enough, and that she seemed to have many secrets he didn't know.

She doesn't love herself; she's indifferent to everything, as if it doesn't matter who she marries.

But he couldn't live without her.

Just like now, her thoughts seemed to have flown to a very far place, a place without him. He felt like he couldn't hold on to her, as if she would fly back to the sky in the blink of an eye.

Chu Tianling quickly grabbed Shen Jiaojiao's hand. Shen Jiaojiao, lying on the bed, turned to look at him, her thoughts interrupted and her mood not good. She asked somewhat coldly, "What's wrong?"

Her tone was like that of a stranger, and Chu Tianling felt a chill run down his spine; she didn't seem to care about him at all.

He composed himself, pretended to close his eyes, and whispered, "Jiaojiao, I like you, I like you a lot!"

Shen Jiaojiao turned her head and closed her eyes, feeling uneasy. She didn't know why she felt this way. "Never mind," she thought, "I'll stop thinking about it." She whispered, "Go to sleep!"

After an unknown amount of time, Shen Jiaojiao's breathing became even, and she fell asleep.

Chu Tianling opened his eyes, stared at the person beside him, and slowly moved closer. They had been sleeping soundly, but Chu Tianling felt that this was not good, so he gently pulled the person into his arms.

Feeling Shen Jiaojiao's warm breath, Chu Tianling finally felt real again. He then drifted off to sleep peacefully.

When Shen Jiaojiao woke up the next day, she looked at the handsome man so close to her, her mind went blank for a second, and she decided to get up quietly.

Chu Tianling had actually woken up a long time ago, but he wanted to see how Shen Jiaojiao would react. He didn't know what he was expecting.

However, Shen Jiaojiao's reaction of trying to sneak away was clearly unsatisfactory. Seeing that she was about to leave, she decisively opened her eyes.

Shen Jiaojiao looked at him awkwardly, her face flushed with embarrassment.

"Good morning!" A dry, curt greeting.

When I woke up in the morning, my voice was soft and gentle.

"Good morning!" Chu Tianling added a bright smile.

Humans are indeed greedy creatures. Before, I just thought it was good to be alive. Later, after I was alive, I hoped that being together and seeing each other would be enough. Later, I also hoped to win her love.

Enough, just admit your despicable nature!

You need both the body and the heart.

Shen Jiaojiao was already dressed and drawing her eyebrows.

Chu Tianling hid behind her and secretly learned from her, thinking to himself that he would learn it as soon as he got back and take care of these tasks from now on.

After a quick breakfast, the two prepared to head back.

The Shen couple were extremely satisfied with the marriage. When they were leaving the next day, Madam Wang was all smiles, and kept saying to Chu Tianling, "Tianling, come back to see me more often when you have time, and I'll cook you something delicious."

"Okay!"

Shen Wanshan smiled and said to him, "Next time, let's play a few more games of chess properly. Don't let me win; I'll beat you with my own skills!"

Chu Tianling said sincerely, "Father-in-law, please let me have my way next time!"

Shen Wanshan straightened up a bit, patted him on the back with his big hand, and said, "Good lad, you're quite likable!"
