Chapter 7 The Sedan Chair Ridge

Shen Jiaojiao silently watched him, making Chu Tianyang give in and awkwardly switch his gaze.

Shen Jiaojiao said, "There are no outsiders here now, and the bride is standing right in front of you. I'm willing to marry you too, so what are you waiting for?"

If it weren't for the imperial decree, she wouldn't care who she married, except for not marrying Wang Haotian.

She worried that if she didn't marry into the family, the two elders of the Shen family would donate their family property again, just like in the drama, and she would live a lonely life. Moreover, she would have to do good deeds and stay in the capital, where it would be much more convenient for the wealthy and powerful.

This was the first time Chu Tianyang had encountered such a situation. The bride lifted her veil herself, hit someone, and then put her veil back on herself, demanding to get into the sedan chair, as if none of these things had happened. She was so calm.

Chu Tianyang coughed, his expression unchanged, and calmly lifted the curtain of the sedan chair, saying to Shen Jiaojiao, "It's getting late, let's get in!"

Wang Shi held Shen Jiaojiao's hand and walked step by step onto the bridal sedan chair, abandoning all talk of hugging or not hugging.

As the curtain fell, Chu Tianyang bowed to the Shen couple and said, "Lift the sedan chair!"

The bridal sedan chair was lifted, and festive music began to play. Eight strong guards carried it very steadily.

Shen Jiaojiao sat up and listened to the lively sounds outside, then quietly closed her eyes.

Chu Tianyang rode a tall horse ahead, leading the way. The crowd of onlookers was dense. Two guards behind him threw various snacks to both sides and occasionally scattered a few handfuls of copper coins, making the journey lively and extraordinary.

The Crown Prince's residence is located on the edge of the imperial city. It is a separate mansion with a vast area. At a glance, the golden tiles and red walls give it a solemn appearance.

The main gate was wide open, and red silk ribbons were hung on the two huge stone lions. Red lanterns hung at the entrance and swayed in the breeze.

The procession arrived smoothly at the Crown Prince's residence. As they were carried through the gate, the lively sounds seemed to be shut out. There were no guests, no wedding ceremony, and it became very quiet, since the main figure was still lying down.

The butler, dressed in blue with a red sash, greeted her with a broad smile: "Has Her Highness the Crown Princess arrived?"

The bridal sedan chair landed smoothly in the quiet surroundings. Chu Tianyang stared at the sedan chair, lost in thought. He said to the butler, "I've brought the bride back. You're in charge from now on. Just take her directly to her room."

The steward's smile froze for a moment, then he replied hastily, "Don't worry, Your Highness, this old servant will ensure that you safely escort them to the bridal chamber."

Hearing the voices outside, Shen Jiaojiao realized that they had arrived at the Crown Prince's residence, and it seemed that they had gone straight there.

She ripped off her veil, lifted the curtain, and stepped out.

The old butler paused, frowned, and asked, "Why is the veil gone?"

Shen Jiaojiao calmly said, "Oh, I uncovered it myself."

The old butler had never encountered such a situation before and was hesitant to make a decision. He looked at Shen Jiaojiao and then asked Chu Tianyang for instructions: "What... what should we do?"

Having experienced what happened in the Shen family, Chu Tianyang's tolerance for her was completely different; this was indeed something she was capable of doing.

He glanced at Shen Jiaojiao and smiled at the steward, saying, "The Crown Princess must be tired from her journey. Steward, please send someone to take her to her room."

The steward readily agreed and appointed two maids to lead the way: "Your Highness, this old servant will take you to the bridal chamber immediately. Please follow me."

Shen Jiaojiao nodded calmly and followed behind, walking all the way there.

The servants stood quietly to one side, with only a red silk ribbon tied around their waists, adding a touch of festive cheer.

The housekeeper secretly observed Shen Jiaojiao and found that her gaze was calm, without any dissatisfaction in her eyes, and her eyes were clear. He was somewhat satisfied with her.

He slowly walked to Shen Jiaojiao's side and whispered, "I suppose the Crown Princess must have heard some rumors about His Highness the Crown Prince before she married into the family. I won't lie to you, His Highness is indeed unwell and bedridden, but he is an extremely good person."

Shen Jiaojiao asked, "What do you want to say? Get to the point!"

The steward hadn't expected this person to be so straightforward. Well, she could lift her own veil. He paused for a second before chuckling, "I didn't expect the Crown Princess to be so frank. Well then, I'll just say it directly: His Highness the Crown Prince is extremely easy to get along with. When you meet him later, speak less and don't anger him. Be quiet."

Shen Jiaojiao remained expressionless, her mind racing. So, the other person's health was failing, and she wanted him to enjoy his final moments? That was a rather tactful way of putting it.

Finding that the other party did not respond, the butler continued to speak to himself: "Just try not to make him angry, don't cause trouble, don't meddle, you know what I mean?"

Shen Jiaojiao glanced at him. Why is he making such a fuss? How afraid is he of her? It's only the first time he's met the housekeeper, why is he acting like he's so afraid of her?

Seeing that the prince still hadn't responded, the steward grew increasingly anxious. His Highness had been bedridden for several days; if anything went wrong, everyone below would be punished. The more he thought about it, the more his lips unconsciously tightened into a thin line, and his brows furrowed.

Looking at the young Crown Princess, the steward sighed inwardly. Alas! She is a pitiful person! So young, and I heard that she is an only child in her family. She was raised by her father, Qianjiao, since she was a child. It is unfortunate that she was sent here to get married.

The new house has arrived. The steward said in a low voice, "Your Highness, we've arrived at the new house. His Highness the Crown Prince is inside. We won't go in. If you need anything, just shout. There are people outside. Listen carefully to what I just said. I hope you can survive."

Shen Jiaojiao's face remained expressionless as she softly said, "I understand." Then she strode inside, and the maid behind her gently closed the door after she entered.

Chu Tianling lay in bed for the past two days, listening to footsteps slowly approaching.

Today was supposed to be his big day. This morning, the servants dressed him in a bright red wedding robe. He had been lying in bed for several days, and his face was very pale, and his body was much thinner.

These past two days, An Yi has been replying to his messages every day. He had been completely unmoved at first, but with each message that Shen Jiaojiao hadn't run away from the wedding and the date was drawing closer, he felt his heartbeat becoming increasingly abnormal.

I don't know whether I want her to run away or not.

He had received news of Shen Jiaojiao's beating of Wang Haotian when she left home earlier, and he was shocked when he heard the news, as this had never happened in the previous 18 times.

Is this time really different?

His body feels like it's being crushed by iron; he can barely move. The footsteps are getting closer. Based on past experience, he will die tonight, and then the cycle will repeat itself.

His inner reason told him not to get too involved with people and waste his energy, but he was just too curious about what the Crown Princess, whom he had never seen in his 18 lifetimes, looked like.
