Chapter 76 The Wedding Plans Fall Through

Zheng Donghai walked towards the Zhou family's house, relying on his memory.

After passing through the bustling streets, there is a small alley with some low houses. Most of the people living here are poor.

Zhou Ming and Zhou Xuan live here. Since Zhou Ran passed away, her mother couldn't bear the hardship and ran away, so now it's just the two of them living here.

Standing in front of this dilapidated little house, Zheng Donghai did some mental preparation. Well, it's late today, I'll find a cleaner place to stay tomorrow.

Bump Bump Bump

A knock came at the door.

Soon after, the small door opened a crack, and Zhou Xuan, hiding inside, cautiously peeked out and discovered it was Uncle Zheng. She immediately opened the door.

"Oh! What brings you here? Come in quickly."

Zhou Xuan was still very happy to see him, as she could always make some money by seeing him.

Zheng Donghai came in carrying a package, sat down on a stool, and took a sip of water.

He was thin and tired after carrying such a long distance.

Zhou Xuan sat quietly to one side without saying a word, glancing at the large package several times, wondering if it was for her. She was somewhat hopeful.

Zheng Donghai paused for a moment before recounting the matter of the imperial edict from earlier that day.

Zhou Xuan stood up abruptly, her face changing color: "What did you say? What do you mean you'll be my father from now on? What about my marriage to Young Master Zheng?"

Jung Donghae frowned: "Of course it's invalid! But don't worry, I'll help you find a good family to marry into later."

Zhou Xuan felt like the sky had fallen. No one could be better than Young Master Zheng! No one.

Tears streamed down her face as she ran back to her room, too heartbroken to bear seeing that hateful old face.

That week, after swindling his sister out of five taels of silver during the day, he immediately went to a brothel to have some fun with his old flame. As a result, he heard about the imperial edict that evening.

He quickly got off the woman and rushed home. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Zheng Donghai sitting on a stool in the room, looking extremely sleepy.

Seeing that the other person was indeed carrying a bag and looked exhausted, he still felt a little conflicted.

"Father-in-law, what's wrong with you?" he shouted deliberately, not wanting to lose the marriage.

Zheng Donghai was exhausted. Zhou Xuan had run away crying, leaving him without even a place to stay. He was both tired and hungry.

She had just dozed off when he woke her up again. His voice was a little hoarse: "Why are you coming home so late? What kind of behavior is this! From now on, I'm your father, and you have to come home on time every day."

Zhou Ming took a few steps closer, grabbed his hand, and panicked: "This isn't real, you're joking, right? Mingming is about to marry Xue'er, I don't agree!"

As he approached, a cheap, perfumed scent wafted over him. Zheng Donghai frowned, somewhat displeased: "Where have you been? Why do you smell so good?"

Zhou Ming didn't want to answer the question. He didn't want a father; he only wanted money and to marry Xue'er.

He had already boasted to his cronies that he was going to marry a young lady from the Zheng family, a woman of high social standing.

"Then does my marriage with Zheng Xue still stand?" He stared straight at Zheng Donghuan, not missing a single word.

Zheng Donghai was a little annoyed. Was it because he hadn't explained things clearly? Why was everyone so concerned about the marriage? This was originally to repay the debt of saving his life. Now that he was their father, it was a one-for-one compensation. What more could they want?

"That's all! It doesn't count anymore! From now on, I'm your father, and I'll find you a new partner."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Ming collapsed to the ground, knowing full well what he was like.

Those around them know better.

If his father hadn't died and he hadn't been dragged down by this big, simple-minded guy, he would never have had any contact with such upper-class people in his life.

Especially someone as foolish as him, there are few like him in the world. Now that the opportunity has been missed, what good person could possibly be interested in someone like him?

Seeing his distraught appearance, Zheng Donghai didn't understand the seriousness of the situation, only thinking that it might be because it was the first time becoming a father and both of them were not used to each other.

Now that the imperial decree has been issued, he has come to terms with it and knows things will gradually get better.

"I'm a little sleepy, take me to sleep." Zheng Donghai didn't care about being hungry anymore; it was too cold, too sleepy, and too late, so he decided to rest first.

With a cold face, Zhou Ming led the person to the place where Zhou Ran used to sleep. Since his father passed away and his mother ran away, the room had been empty and had never been cleaned.

When the door was opened, the inside was full of dust and a mess, making it impossible to rest.

With no other option, he returned to the lobby. At least there were chairs to sit on, so he could make do for the night.

Zhou Ming had no desire to sleep. He felt that the future was bleak and his heart was cold. He sat on the shore of Zhengdong Lake, staring blankly, as if he had lost his soul.

Just as Shen Jiaojiao sent someone to tell Chu Tianling that she wasn't going back, Chu Tianling received the message and immediately rushed over.

He didn't want his precious daughter sleeping outside. Who knew how many other men had stayed in those rooms? Just thinking about it made him furious.

There was a courtyard in Peach Blossom Town that his father, the emperor, had bestowed upon him many years ago. He immediately led his men there.

"Jiaojiao, you have no idea how much I missed you today!" As soon as they met, Chu Tianling hugged her and started kissing her in the carriage.

When Shen Jiaojiao and her entourage arrived at the entrance of the restaurant, they were abducted by the Crown Prince who had rushed over.

Only when he was completely locked in his arms did Chu Tianling feel alive again, as happy as a fish that was about to die of thirst falling into the water.

He closed his eyes, inhaling Jiao Jiao's delicate fragrance, and a smile unconsciously crept onto his lips: "Jiao Jiao, tell me what you did today?"
