Chapter 56 I Don't Care
Yan Dibai's dazed eyes flickered, her sluggish brain failing to process what was happening for a moment.
Whether the voice was too gentle or he was no longer able to think clearly, the overwhelming pain surged back, forcing him to groan in agony, his body curled up like a shrimp.
All the splendor vanished, leaving him only with an endless sea of suffering.
He had no boat to cross, and was constantly threatened by the turbulent waves of ice and fire. His blood was unrestrained, desperately wanting to burst forth from his body. He couldn't control himself; the familiar heat once again surged through his mouth and nose.
Snot, tears, saliva.
"..." Yan Dibai's vision was half black and half white, his pupils dilated and then contracted sharply, as if he were suffering from dementia. In a short while, his thin arm suddenly gathered immense strength, and with a forceful tug, he dragged Qingqing down and slammed her against the door.
A loud "boom" resounded, and sawdust rained down onto the girl's slightly disheveled hair.
Qingqing frowned, in pain!
Her festering wounds on her buttocks and legs trembled violently, and she gasped for breath. Her body, however, could not obey her brain's commands. After this blow, she could no longer support her upper body and swayed before collapsing in front of the door.
"Your Majesty." Qingqing still refused to let go of Yan Dibai's hand. Cold sweat dripped from her forehead, and bloody teeth marks appeared on her pale lower lip. Even though the tenderness she had prepared for so long had been shattered along with her injured body, Qingqing still forced herself to stay awake.
Yan Dibai's hands trembled even more violently than hers, and her pale red skin was covered with shocking purplish-black veins.
He was much worse than she thought.
She had no time to worry about the large, swollen bump on her forehead; all she wanted was to pull Yan Dibai back from the darkness into the world.
“Your Majesty,” Qingqing called out.
His Majesty.
"...Your Majesty."
"Yan Dibai, wake up!"
The rain was heavy, pelting her body, and water mixed with large patches of blood kept flowing out.
As she listened to his groans and struggles, large tears suddenly fell.
From Zaiyue Palace to here, she walked a third of the way, moved a third of the way, and climbed a third of the way.
The fifty strokes of the cane were so painful that she fainted several times, and she missed home terribly.
The nineteen-year-old girl, living in the body of a fifteen-year-old, gripped the boy's hand tightly with all her might and cried silently in the heavy rain.
The rain washed away the bloodstains and the tears. In the first year of Emperor Zhaoren's reign, the Jin Dynasty was brightly lit and the whole country celebrated. Officials raised their cups and exchanged toasts, their laughter and joy filling the capital.
A long rain fell in the cold palace at the far east end.
Years later, when people bring up this matter again, they always say, "It was like a timely rain from heaven."
Heaven sent down sweet rain, and the Emperor, moved by the call, awoke.
-
When Yan Dibai regained consciousness, it was already the next day. The rain was still lingering, and it was chilly.
He was used to it; his head and neck twitched a few times, and he opened his eyes without paying any attention.
As soon as he opened his eyes, Yan Dibai blinked quickly again.
strangeness.
My eyesight seems exceptionally good today. The spiderwebs on the main beam are damp, and the ink on the old paintings in the distance is still faintly visible.
He looked again suspiciously. As the sunlight filtered in, he looked down and saw thin rats scurrying around the base of the wall.
…It is indeed very clear.
Yan Dibai remained silent for a moment, then instinctively raised his hand, intending to crawl to retrieve the medicine from the ground. However, as soon as he moved his fingers, Yan Dibai suddenly realized something was wrong.
Something soft was hooking him.
Yan Dibai was slow to react, but suddenly remembered that a warm light seemed to have shone on her last night.
Extremely gentle and soothing, it dispelled the cold and pain, without causing him the slightest discomfort.
The boy, so thin his Adam's apple bobbed up and down, turned his head in a daze. One glance, and Yan Dibai's pupils dilated.
What covered his hand was a fair, slender hand.
It's not from Wo Xue.
She looks more like... a woman.
How could there be a woman in this place?
Yang Liuqing… Yan Dibai pondered rapidly. The person who had been lying in wait for so long should have kept her outside; this shouldn't be her.
Yan Dibai's brows furrowed with a fierce look, and he reached out with his other hand to pry the woman's clothes off. Qingqing, still unconscious, felt something moving beneath her hands. Overwhelmed by worry for Yan Dibai, she whimpered and woke up. Reflexively, she spread her fingers and pulled his hand back into her own.
Yan Dibai, lying on his side, witnessed everything. His heart pounded, and he instinctively tried to move back, wanting to leave. But Qingqing, having fully regained consciousness during the brief air raid, looked with delight at the boy's clenched fist:
"His Majesty has awakened?"
The girl's voice was full of joy and delight. It sounded vibrant and full of life.
The moment she spoke, Yan Di Bai Tian Ling's head went numb, her eyes widened, but the next moment her face tightened, and she continued to move in silently.
Qingqing asked blankly, "Your Majesty?"
"It's me!" Afraid he might mistake her for someone else, she writhed her frail body and desperately pressed her face into the crevice. She tugged at him, but Yan Dibai didn't move. So she tugged again, and Yan Dibai turned around with a gloomy face. But at that moment, he met a pair of calm, clear eyes.
Slightly upturned almond-shaped eyes with dark pupils. Slightly curved, as if smiling.
The anger on his face was instantly hidden in the shadows by those eyes.
Yan Dibai was stunned.
Qingqing endured the waves of pain, happy that Yan Dibai had turned around. She scratched at the wood shavings on the threshold with her index finger, which seemed to coat the wood with a layer of light.
Even his eyes were bright, like two shimmering pools of clear spring water.
Yan Dibai's breathing became heavy.
She couldn't see inside and was completely unaware of Yan Dibai's changes in such a short time. She simply coaxed him in a tone meant for a child:
"Your Majesty, Yang Liuqing has arrived."
It felt as if lightning had swept over Yan Dibai, and he lurched backward. Qingqing, puzzled, fluttered her eyelashes in response.
What's wrong?
He didn't answer, and moved back further.
Qingqing's heart tightened instantly. "Your Majesty, please open the door. May I come in and serve you?"
She knocked on the door carefully.
Yan Di was still addicted to the white poison, and perhaps the effects hadn't worn off yet. When it flared up, he wouldn't even recognize his own family, let alone a stranger like her. Qingqing quickly searched for possible reasons and resolved them.
It had been silent inside for a long time. Even breathing was rarely heard.
Anxiety returned, and just as Qingqing was about to ask again, Yan Dibai spoke in a hoarse voice:
"Who sent you?"
She handled it with practiced ease, her eyes crinkling again: "I begged for it."
"Whom should I ask?"
After careful consideration, Qingqing concealed half of the truth: "...the new emperor."
"Him?" Yan Dibai seemed to chuckle. "Wo Xue is dead?"
Qingqing quickly replied, "He's doing well! He got a new job."
Fifty strokes of the cane saved a life, and in return, Woxue was given a small courtyard where he could continue to live.
Yan Dibai roughly guessed the details behind these answers. He remained silent for a long, long time before bursting into laughter:
"I never imagined that the one who wholeheartedly saved me from dire straits and followed me so devotedly would be you in the end."
He looked into those eyes, his gaze hardening, and felt a mixture of pain and pleasure.
"Yang Liuqing, why are you so desperate? Are you truly hopelessly in love with me? If you had just said you had such feelings, I wouldn't have hesitated to let you serve me in bed. Why aren't you leaving? What exactly do you want?"
His tone was so offensive it made you want to punch him in the head.
It's the same trick, but Qingqing is not the same Qingqing as before.
She remained calm and composed, exuding an air of profound understanding: "Did His Majesty not want me to see your disgraceful state, so he repeatedly used harsh words to force me to leave?"
As Yan Di was stunned, Qingqing said:
"Actually, I don't think there's anything wrong with it."
"His Majesty has always been the His Majesty in my heart."
