88 The Demonic World (Part 9)
◎Book of Fate◎
The lock on the wing door was unlocked, and Lin Xiangxun retreated to the window, watching coldly as several people came in and took away the unconscious girl on the ground.
Outside the window, on the street below the restaurant, a familiar figure came into his sight.
"Take this too." The girl beside him naturally stuffed everything she had picked from the vendors into his hands, then skipped off to another stall, turning around and waving at him with a smile, "Xie An, hurry up, or I won't wait for you anymore."
The young man, clutching a gift box so high it almost obscured his face, stared intently at the figure at the end of the street. "Don't run too fast, or you might fall."
They didn't realize that at this moment, there was a line of sight coming down from the restaurant, secretly observing them.
Lin Xiangxun's pupils suddenly trembled, and his five fingers curled up involuntarily, crushing the teacup in his hand to pieces.
After a moment, he looked at the two figures that gradually disappeared from his sight, his frown relaxed, and the corners of his lips curled up.
If he had known that this person had a weakness, he wouldn't have gone through so much trouble.
Li Jintang stopped in front of a stall piled with miscellaneous books and flipped through a few of them curiously.
"You have good taste, young lady," the vendor said, smiling as he saw someone finally arrive. "These are all top-quality books. Feel the covers; they're different from the others."
"Seriously?" She fumbled through the pile of books, finally touching one that was at the bottom. She looked down at her grimy hands. "It's all dust."
The vendor's face changed when he heard this. He pulled the book out with a hint of embarrassment, frowning. "Where did you get this lousy book? Miss, why not look at something else? This... this is an accident."
"Okay..."
"Baby, baby, it's me..."
The book in his hand shook, so slightly that only she could see it.
This voice... Is this the book of destiny?
"Don't just stand there, kid. That guy is coming soon. Take me away quickly." Mingshu was dizzy, but he didn't forget to remind her: "He can see me. You have to hide me well."
Li Jintang was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at the young man who was about to approach him - was the "boy" mentioned in the fortune book referring to Xie An?
She took out some silver from her purse and handed it over: "Don't worry about the change. I want this one."
The peddler never expected that the tattered book that came from nowhere could make him money. He was so happy that he held the book in his hands and thanked the peddler repeatedly.
Li Jintang took the shrunken book and hid it in his lapel. The next moment he turned around, he met the boy's gaze.
"Xie An, I don't want to go shopping anymore," she raised her eyes and looked at the person who came, "Let's go back."
Although he didn't know why the fortune-telling book was so afraid of Xie An, it would be better to take it back first and ask him about it clearly.
This time he was silent for a moment before answering, "Okay."
Li Jintang was thinking about the fortune book all the way, and didn't understand why it and Sister Qiuyan were suddenly so afraid of Xie An. It was obvious that it had previously believed that Xie An was the protagonist and wanted her to cling to him.
The person in front of her suddenly stopped, turned around and looked at her with lowered eyes.
She stopped, confused: "What's going on?"
"What book did Atang buy just now?" He reached out and tucked the scattered hair behind her ears, his eyes fixed on the lapel of her clothes. "Can you show it to me?"
"No, nothing." Li Jintang was forced to the tree. She turned away guiltily, not daring to look at him. "How about we go back and talk about it?"
"Not so good," Xie Changyan smiled slightly, his tone gentle: "Will you give it to me yourself, or wait for me to snatch it away?"
She trembled and said angrily, "How dare you!"
"I don't dare."
He let go of his hand, and Li Jintang quickly pushed him away, walked around behind the tree and reached out to move the book of life to another place, but he touched a blank space.
Her heart sank, and she turned to see that the fortune book had somehow slipped into his hands. The young man stood not far away, watching her calmly, with no intention of turning the page.
"Give it back to me," Li Jintang tiptoed to grab the fortune book in his hand, but missed. She pinched his arm in anger, "Why are you trying to steal my things? You have no shame."
A red mark quickly formed on his hand. Xie Changyan glanced at the fate book, a hint of jealousy flashing in his eyes. "It's just a book. If you want it, I can give you more."
"I want this one," Li Jintang glared at him and said unhappily, "If you insist on having it, I won't talk to you from today." After that, she walked forward without looking back. When she passed by him, she tilted her body and deliberately bumped into him.
After a while, someone pulled her wrist. She turned around and saw the boy with his head down, looking as if he was admitting his mistake.
"Atang is right," he forced a smile and handed her the fortune book, "It's just a book. I was wrong."
Li Jintang snatched the fortune book without a second's hesitation, lowered his eyes to smooth out the wrinkles on the pages, and replied casually: "That's it for this time, but next time..."
He immediately interjected, "There won't be a next time."
After returning, Li Jintang found a random excuse to keep him out. Then, he carefully dusted off the fortune-telling book and, after confirming that no one was outside, he whispered, "Why did you go there? Did you know I'd be there today?"
The book of fate moved, and the turning of the pages brought up gusts of wind, but it did not answer.
"Why don't you speak?" She said anxiously, "I still have a lot to ask you. Where have you been these days? Why can Xie An see you? Why are you so afraid of him?"
She asked three questions in a row, flipping through the fortune book more quickly, but still didn't speak.
Li Jintang suddenly realized that maybe it didn't want to speak, but it couldn't speak.
"Are you unable to make any sound?" she asked, feeling foolish at herself. She quickly added, "If so, just turn the page."
The fortune book quickly turned two pages.
"Did...Xie An do this?"
Turned two more pages.
Li Jintang's heart trembled, and he just wanted to grab the person over immediately and ask him to untie these strange things.
After calming down, she sat quietly and thought for a long time.
Xie An must have done this because he didn't want her to hear the words in the fortune book. If she asked him now, he would definitely not agree to decipher it.
What should I do then?
After thinking for a long time without being able to come up with an answer, Li Jintang felt inexplicably irritated. He picked up the fortune book and quickly walked towards the door.
"Don't be afraid, I'll explain it to you."
As soon as he finished speaking, the door opened and he bumped into the young man in white.
He looked down at her with a smile on his lips: "Who are you going to argue with, Atang? Do you need my help?"
Li Jintang didn't bother beating around the bush with him and simply threw the fortune book in front of him: "What did you do to it?"
"Whatever you did, restore it to me now."
"Atang, you can't blame me for this." Xie Changyan's smile remained unchanged, but his eyes were filled with innocence. "You said you only liked me, but now you're blaming me for a book?"
Is this something a human can say?
Li Jintang suddenly laughed angrily: "Why are you fussing over even a book? Isn't that childish?"
He didn't refute it, probably having accepted it. "Atang is so anxious about a book, what do you want to say to him?"
"You can ask me any of those questions. I'll tell you everything I know." He turned his eyes and said meaningfully, "I definitely know as much as it does."
It would be strange if I could ask you.
The more he acted like this, the more she felt something was wrong. From Brother Qu to Sister Qiuyan, and then to the Book of Fate, everyone's reaction was wrong.
She seemed to be missing a memory that everyone has, and this must be related to the person in front of her.
But it seemed there was no way to get a solution from him. Li Jintang pushed him out and said, "I don't want to talk to you today."
Noticing his gaze, she clutched the Book of Fate tightly and said, "If you dare touch it, I will never speak to you again."
"..." There was a moment of loneliness in his eyes, but he didn't want to argue with her, so he lowered his head and silently closed the door for her.
"I have an idea," she said, sitting up from the couch with a hint of excitement. "Brother Qu is here too. Go find him. He must have a solution."
The Book of Fate was about to jump away, but she reached out and caught it back. "Forget it, forget it. If you get discovered, it will be bad for Brother Qu."
Unable to think of a solution for a while, Li Jintang put down the fortune book and simply sat there in a daze.
Xie An treated her very well these days, so well that sometimes she almost wanted to stay here with him forever.
But how could this be possible? She was going home, even if she liked it...
She didn't know how long it had passed, the sky outside the window gradually darkened, a ray of setting sun dyed the window pane orange, and the sound of knocking on the door brought her back to her senses.
"I already said I don't want to see you today." She said without even looking at you.
There were two more knocks on the door, and a woman's voice said softly, "Young lady, it's time for dinner."
It turned out it wasn't him. Fearing that the other person had been waiting outside for too long, Li Jintang quickly ran to open the door. Before he could even utter the word "thank you", he was stopped when he saw the face at the door.
She resisted the urge to shout, and after pulling her into the room, she said, "Sister Qiuyan?!"
"It's me," Qiuyan took off the heavy bamboo hat on her head and said anxiously, "Atang, I finally managed to sneak in and find you. You must believe me. Xie Changyan is not a good person!"
"What are you thanking me for..." She came too suddenly, and Li Jintang was not yet prepared. He was stunned and asked, "Who are you talking about?"
"He won't even tell you his real name, so how can he truly love you?" Qiu Yan held her hand and asked, "Did he ever say anything like he liked you? My master said that the demon clan doesn't understand love at all. They only care about themselves. He's trying to coax you with all these nice words because he still has something he can use."
For some reason, the person in front of her suddenly became extremely unfamiliar. Li Jintang carefully identified her for a while, but could not find any flaws in her appearance. However, her intuition told her that this Sister Qiuyan did not seem to be the same person who had been traveling with her all the way.
But this thought only appeared for a moment, and she shook her head to dispel those terrible thoughts.
Sister Qiuyan is standing here perfectly fine, how could it be fake?
"But I..." She looked at herself hesitantly, "What can I use?"
"It's just that you haven't discovered it yet," Qiu Yan sighed, pulling a dagger from her sleeve and pressing it into her hand. "If he really means to you... then there will be no mercy. Thrust this knife into his chest, it's both self-preservation and revenge for your brother Qu."
Li Jintang was initially feeling a bit amused and confused by the knife being handed to him, but was startled when he heard her words. He then grabbed her arm and said, "What revenge? Isn't Brother Qu fine?"
"I'll tell you about this later," Qiu Yan pushed her hand away. "Someone's coming. I can't stay here for too long."
The window opened and closed, and the figure disappeared into the darkness.
What is revenge? What kind of revenge is it?
Li Jintang felt as if someone had hit his head with a stick. He felt dizzy and couldn't think straight.
She looked at the fate book lying motionless on the couch, and felt regretful that she should have asked Sister Qiuyan to decipher the spiritual power on it first.
It was raining outside, the patter of raindrops hitting my heart like a hammer, making me feel particularly irritated. The half-closed door was pushed open again, and a lightning flash by by chance illuminated the boy's porcelain-white face.
He walked into the house and the smile on his face froze instantly.
"Atang," he took a few steps closer, leaned slightly closer to her face, and said in a gentle voice, "Tell me, where did that person go?"
