90 Demon World (XI)
◎Who is he? (See the following text)◎
The whole room seemed to fall silent. Xie Changyan's face was momentarily confused. "What?"
"I knew you'd find it strange," Li Jintang said, looking him in the eye with a serious expression. "But I'm afraid if I suddenly pass away one day, you'll be even more sad."
She continued, "Just like those storybooks we saw at the vendors yesterday, you're a character in them, and I ended up here by chance, and... I met you."
Xie Changyan's eyelashes trembled, and his black eyes stared at her quietly.
Li Jintang patted him, looking disappointed. "Why didn't you react? Don't you believe what I said?"
His eyes moved and he quickly replied, "I believe it."
"Then you..." His answer was so straightforward that it left her a little confused. Li Jintang pursed her lips, considering how to start: "Xie An, you know I have to go home. I can't stay here forever."
"So... do you choose to stay, or go with me?"
He did not answer immediately, but looked at her silently for a long time. Finally, he put his arms around her waist and kissed the soft top of her head.
"Of course I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I can't let you leave." He smiled and deliberately emphasized the word "impossible".
Was he really willing to give up the kingdom he had worked so hard to acquire? Despite his doubts, Li Jintang nodded and slapped his hand away: "Don't move around."
“…” He withdrew his hand reluctantly, his expression suddenly becoming a little aggrieved.
"People in our area say good and evil can't coexist. I'm afraid they won't be very friendly when you go there," Li Jintang said, smiling with his eyes curved. "But don't be afraid. I will protect you."
"Okay." Xie Changyan slowly curled his lips, his eyes fixed on her without blinking, as if he wanted to carve every frown and smile of hers into his eyes.
He leaned forward slightly, his fingers gently running through her hair, his movements so gentle they were almost reverent. "Then it's a deal. You'll always protect me."
There was a sudden commotion outside the house, and no one knew what had happened. There was a crackling sound on the wall, as if something had hit it.
"Is your sect leader planning to become a coward?" A cold laugh was heard, and the man immediately said, "Let me in, otherwise, you will all die."
Li Jintang listened to the shouting and cursing outside the house and nervously grabbed his sleeve: "What's going on outside? Is there anything wrong?"
"I'll go take a look."
He stood up and the moment he walked out, the smile on his face disappeared and his eyes suddenly darkened.
"Master Qi is truly persistent." Xie Changyan smiled as he slowly threw up the snatched wind chimes, which then landed steadily back in his hand. The series of crisp sounds made the man in front of him look even darker.
Qi He's face turned pale, and he almost crushed the whip in his hand, "Where is my junior sister?"
"Why should I tell you?" He said indifferently, his eyes unconcealed with sarcasm. "So what if you knew? Do you think you can take him away from me?"
"My master hates despicable and shameless people like you the most, and my junior sister naturally hates you the same way," Qi He said with a cold smile, "When she recovers her memory, do you think she will still be like this?"
"Then there's no need for you to worry, Master Qi," the young man said, his lips curled up, but there was no smile in his eyes. "City Lord Qi, why don't you guess? If I kill you now, will she blame me?"
This person is no different from a madman. I'm afraid he will do what he says. Qi He tightened his grip on the whip, but did not give in. "How long do you think you can deceive her?"
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly smiled, his voice filled with excitement: "Although the puppet talisman can bewitch people, the longer it can be used, the more spiritual energy the controller consumes. Sect Master Xie must know this, right? I can definitely wait. When you are killed by the backlash and die beyond recognition, I will go and bring my little junior sister back..."
He paused for a moment, and when he saw the other man's smile becoming more terrifying, he raised his eyebrows in satisfaction: "But don't worry, Sect Master. After we get married, I will visit your grave often."
"Really?" He chuckled, his sparkling eyes curved as if he had heard a very funny joke.
The wind chimes in his sleeve fell to the ground and shattered, and the crisp sound stopped abruptly.
"You..." Qi He's face changed drastically, and the long whip in his hand immediately rushed towards the young man like a poisonous snake, but when he saw the other party casually raised his sleeve, he seemed to have lost control, his neck was tightly pinched, and the long whip fell to the ground.
"So what if I want to hide it from her forever?" Blood welled up in his eyes, and the spiritual power in his body spread out uncontrollably, pressing down all the plants in the yard.
"Even without the puppet talisman, she would..." His eyes flickered, knowing he was deceiving himself, but he still smiled and continued: "She would also be willing to stay by my side."
The person who was lifted into the air couldn't make a sound. There was blood at the corner of his mouth, but there was no fear in his eyes. Instead, he looked at him with the look of a winner.
Xie Changyan paused slightly, his knuckles tightening inch by inch. He hated such a look, so he might as well kill this man now. He was such an insignificant person, Atang would not blame him.
This thought became stronger as the other party's breathing gradually weakened. He narrowed his eyes, feeling a life slipping away in his hands.
"Xie An..."
There was a sudden sound of a door opening behind him, and the young man froze, the murderous intent in his eyes fading like the tide. He instantly released his grip and struck the man in the chest with his backhand, sending him flying several feet.
"Why did you come out wearing so little?" When he turned around, he had regained his gentle appearance and took the cloak handed to her by the guard and wrapped her in it.
"The bell kept ringing, so I came out to look for you." Li Jintang was surrounded, with only a pair of confused eyes. She tilted her head to look at the broken pieces of the wind chime on the ground, then looked at the intact bell on her ankle. "Hey, why is it broken?"
"Nothing, not important." He lowered his head and rubbed the top of her hair, his drooping eyelashes covering the lingering blood-red. "It's cold outside, let's go back."
"Junior sister, junior sister!"
Xie Changyan's expression changed slightly. He turned around and glanced at the man, his eyes full of warning.
Qi He lay on the ground in a heap, suddenly spitting out a mouthful of blood, his hair plastered to his face. He struggled to his feet and stumbled forward, "Junior Sister, it's me... You don't remember Senior Brother, but do you remember Master Qi?"
Li Jintang looked around the person in front of her and followed the sound. The person's clothes were stained with blood, and his appearance was particularly unfamiliar. She tried hard to identify him, but she couldn't find his face in her memory.
"Xie An, who is he?"
With just one sentence, Qi He suddenly froze, as if he had fallen into an icy cave.
Xie Changyan withdrew his hand and wrapped his cloak tighter around her, blocking her view. "He's just a homeless person passing by. It's not important."
A homeless person... could he dress like this? Li Jintang looked at him in confusion, not quite believing what he said.
"Let's go." He said softly. He didn't want that stranger to stay with her for even a second longer.
"Junior sister, do you really like him?" Qi He pushed away the two guards who rushed over, his voice full of unwillingness, "He deceived you, killed your friends, and wanted to imprison you here. Do you still choose to go with him?!"
Li Jintang stopped and looked back at him: "Who did he kill?"
Brother Qu and Sister Qiuyan are both alive and well. She has no other friends in this world. Who else can he kill?
She suddenly felt unhappy and stared at the man: "You don't like Xie An, so you want to frame him?"
Qi He was stunned when he heard this, then shook his head painfully: "I know you have been bewitched by him and your mind is temporarily confused, but it doesn't matter. One day I will kill him and take you away from here."
He said this on purpose in order to tell her that she could only escape when the person who controlled the puppet talisman died.
Although this devil is ruthless to others, he will never harm her. I just hope that my junior sister can wake up one day and kill him with her own hands.
"I don't know you, please leave." Li Jintang didn't understand what he said, so he pulled Xie Changyan's sleeve and walked back, "Let's go too."
Xie Changyan let her lead him, unnoticedly turning to the side to shield her. He lowered his eyes, glancing at her every two steps, a smile playing on his lips.
Was she just... defending herself?
Even if there was a puppet talisman, so what? It wouldn't work all the time. Maybe she really wanted to protect him and go with him just now.
If you come out to look for him, you must be concerned about whether something happened to him.
"Xie An," Li Jintang called him several times, seeing that he had been staring at her in a daze, and reached out to poke his arm, "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing," he collected his thoughts, lowered his head to avoid the girl's puzzled eyes, leaned over and kissed her forehead, "I love you."
The figures of the two people entangled with each other slowly faded from sight. Qi He wiped the blood from the corner of his lips and staggered back, and back again, until his back hit the tree trunk. The thorns that stretched out sideways pricked him sorely that he felt a little more sober.
A guard stretched out his arms to the side, his eyes full of contempt: "Master Qi, I won't see you off."
Qi He stared straight at the direction where his junior sister had just left, as if he hadn't heard anything.
Suddenly, he slammed his fist into the tree, and his palm soon bled.
He couldn't, he couldn't let it go on like this. He had to get rid of that demon as soon as possible so that his junior sister could come back to him.
It would probably be difficult for him to accomplish this task alone, but who else could he turn to?
The fairyland, yes, the fairyland... Qi He staggered forward, thinking about how to convince those immortals to cooperate with him.
After his junior sister left, he secretly practiced puppetry to avenge his master and his friends, hoping that one day his power would increase enough to kill Xuande himself. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before the cunning Immortal Venerable discovered his plans and expelled him from his sect, forever forbidding him from entering the Immortal Realm.
What a joke! Master is in the underworld and hasn't spoken yet. Why would a mere Xuande exile him? If Master knew about this, he would definitely stand up for him and teach that old man a lesson.
What a pity, what a pity that he no longer has a master...
Even the junior sister who grew up with him had long forgotten him.
Qi He was walking in a daze, when suddenly his body tilted and he bumped into a person who was running towards him.
"I'm so sorry, I'm in a hurry, please forgive me..." The man bowed and was stunned when he raised his head. "City Lord Qi?"
"It's you?" Qi He glanced at him, without much surprise in his voice.
"Why are you here?" He asked, then realized something was wrong. He didn't have much time to waste. "Have you seen Atang? I heard from my junior sister that the devil captured her to refine the formation. I need to rescue her before that happens."
"Practicing formations?" Hearing her name, Qi He finally came back to his senses and sneered, "Young Master Qu, you're overthinking it. Even if he uses all of you to practice formations, he can't possibly touch my sister."
