Chapter 163 Rescuing the Eldest Princess

Thinking back on the past few days, how the prince consort had broken her heart, she felt an indescribable bitterness.

Seeing that she didn't seem to be in a good mood, Ye Lanyin finally asked the question she had asked when she left.

"Xi'er, is something wrong? You look so worried."

The eldest princess glanced at her and sighed, "Lanyin, to be honest, I'm afraid... the prince consort has learned from the Marquis of Zhenbei!"

"Xi'er, the Prince Consort is deeply in love with you. Back then, in order to be with you, he was worried that His Majesty would be wary of him, so he even promised His Majesty that he would never be promoted again. How could you possibly follow his example?"

Ye Lanyin was half-believing and half-doubting, her brows furrowed, and then handed Lin Wanwan over to Huaxin.

The eldest princess took out a handkerchief and wiped away the tears in her eyes.

“These past few days, I’ve noticed that he’s been very close to one of the maids in the mansion. Every time I go to see the prince consort, that maid acts like she’s caught doing something wrong.”

"This made me suspect that he had been having an affair with that maid behind my back. So I went to ask him about it, but the maid became very agitated and knelt down to defend him and beg for forgiveness."

"If he had openly asked for my consent, I wouldn't have been so upset, but he said I was being paranoid..."

At this point, the eldest princess sadly lowered her eyes and shook her head.

Yes, I remember now.

Was that maid's name Miaoxin?

[She was the one who secretly sold the young princess, and that's why she died such a tragic death.]

Ye Lanyin's mind went blank. The disappearance of the princess's daughter had caused quite a stir back then, but it turned out it wasn't an accident after all.

Upon hearing this, the princess turned deathly pale and bit her lip hard.

She's deliberately trying to drive a wedge between you and your uncle; Aunt, you mustn't fall for it.

[She used all the money from selling the young princess to help her family!]

The book states that the princess became estranged from her husband because of her, and later a maid took the opportunity to climb into the husband's bed. In the end, the princess died of depression.

She's a thief; she stole a lot of things from my aunt.

The princess felt ice-cold all over, her heart was almost stopping, and she felt as if she had fallen into the bottom of an abyss.

Ye Lanyin could empathize with the feelings of losing a child.

Last time, she acted like she was crazy.

"Xi'er, have you ever considered that perhaps it's just a deception?"

"The prince consort is a nobleman and has seen countless women. The vow he made to marry you was a solemn oath before His Majesty."

"Perhaps...you should open your eyes and see if that maid is trying to climb the social ladder?"

Ye Lanyin spoke softly and gently, her voice reaching the Princess's ears like a reassuring pill, easing the shock in her heart.

She stared blankly at Ye Lanyin.

She could hear Wanwan's inner thoughts, and Ye Lanyin, as her mother, certainly could too.

But the fewer people who know about such private matters, the better.

"Lanyin, I understand, thank you."

Ye Lanyin was afraid that she hadn't listened, so she reminded her again.

"Xi'er, once someone is unfaithful, they can never be trusted again, not even a maid!"

"Yes." The eldest princess nodded.

Lin Wanwan watched her mother comfort the princess and wanted to do the same.

[Hugs~ Hugs~ Auntie~]

Lin Wanwan stretched out her short arms towards the Princess.

The baby's sweet, innocent voice made the princess temporarily forget her sorrow. Overjoyed, she took Lin Wanwan from Huaxin's arms and cried tears of joy.

"Wanwan is so good."

"How about you stay and be my daughter?"

The little one shook its head, making a "ee-ee" sound.

This caused the group to burst into laughter.

Auntie, please have a little sister soon!

【I snatched that from Fengdu, I can't let it drag on for too long~】

The eldest princess gently pinched Lin Wanwan's nose and took the pastries from her hand.

"What a clever little devil, you can't eat this yet."

"Bi'er, go to the kitchen and bring me the milk I prepared."

Bi'er smiled and curtsied: "Yes, Your Highness."

Ye Lanyin laughed and joked, "Only you spoil her like that."

The eldest princess looked tenderly at Lin Wanwan, "Wanwan, are you happy that your aunt spoils you?"

Lin Wanwan nodded her little head repeatedly.

[Happy, happy!]

Because of Lin Wanwan's heartfelt words, the eldest princess learned the inside story.

After seeing Ye Lanyin off, she put away her smile.

"Bi'er, go and fetch the token of love that the Prince Consort gave me before."

When the maid heard the princess mention the prince consort, she finally smiled and said, "Yes, Your Highness, I will go right away."

Madam Lin was truly remarkable; she persuaded the princess with just a few words.

The princess's maids all knew how much the prince consort loved her.

Only the eldest princess, the person directly involved, was blinded.

The eldest princess sat in the pavilion, sipping tea, touching the crystal-clear bracelet in her hand, gazing at the clouds in the sky, and revealing a knowing smile that had been on her face for the past few days.

Meanwhile, Ye Lanyin led Lin Wanwan into the carriage, watching the people coming and going on the street, lost in thought.

Just as the carriage passed the Regent's Palace, a tall and upright figure suddenly came into her view at the entrance.

The man was dressed in full armor, seemingly having just returned from the border.

The Regent suddenly turned around, his gaze meeting Ye Lanyin's.

Ye Lanyin quickly averted her gaze and, startled, pulled the curtain down.

Seeing how nervous she was, Huaxin asked with concern, "Madam, what's wrong?"

"It's nothing, I just saw a dog and got scared."

Ye Lanyin's heart pounded, as if she had done something she felt guilty about.
