The Regent coughed lightly.
He reached out and tapped Xiao Chengyun, but even the strength in his arm was half of what it usually was.
"You little brat, how dare you make fun of your father?"
Xiao Chengyun was completely taken aback. Why was his father being so gentle today, and even blushing?
"Father, why are you blushing when you see your son?"
The regent quickly composed himself and adopted a cold demeanor.
"When did I ever blush?"
"What nonsense are you talking about, you little kid? If you keep talking nonsense, I'm going to check your homework."
Xiao Chengyun was afraid that he would really check the homework, so he smiled and flattered him, "Father, you're not so cold."
"Look at you like this, no wonder those noble ladies want to marry you, but dare not express their feelings."
"With you like this, even if my son likes a woman, he wouldn't dare tell you..."
Aside from fighting on the battlefield and walking on the edge of a knife, the regent spent his days in his residence dealing with memorials to the emperor.
How could you possibly understand a girl's thoughts?
Not to mention the expressions on their faces.
Hearing his son's words, he couldn't help but reach out and touch his cheek. "Really?"
"Do I appear cold and indifferent?"
Xiao Chengyun was not tall, but he had a lot of reasoning.
"Yes, Uncle Emperor, so many women in your harem are vying for your favor, but you don't have a single one. Tell me, do you know why those noble ladies' fathers don't want their daughters to marry you?"
"General Ye said that you and the Ye family are both called 'Dragon Xiao Ye Tiger'. General Ye said that the people have given you the wrong name, and that you should be the tiger."
"Waaah."
He stretched out his two little paws and imitated a tiger.
Upon hearing the name of the Ye family, the Regent's eyes flickered with emotion.
He squatted down like a student, looking at his son in front of him as if asking for advice.
"Chengyun, what else did General Ye say about me?"
"He also said, 'You're good for nothing but fighting, having a son like me is your blessing...'"
As soon as Xiao Chengyun finished speaking, he received a slap on the buttocks from the Regent.
"Smack!"
You really can't spoil them; they'll thrive on just a little bit of sunshine!
Xiao Chengyun cried out "Wow!" and ran out of the room, clutching his bottom.
"Murder! My father is going to kill someone!"
Xiao Chengyun ran and shouted, while Butler Wang stood to the side, shaking his head with a smile.
It seems that only the young prince could make the prince put down his memorials and run around the mansion like a teenager.
Realizing he had been tricked, the regent grabbed a rattan cane by the door and rushed out.
"Xiao Chengyun, stop right there."
"You've got some nerve, daring to mess with me, huh?"
"If your biological mother had known this that day, she would have thought it was my fault for spoiling you..."
Upon hearing the Regent mention his birth mother, Xiao Chengyun, who was standing some distance away, immediately stopped in his tracks.
Even the butler couldn't help but find it a bit strange.
Normally, the prince would criticize the young prince's birth mother for being irresponsible, so why is he criticizing himself today?
"Father, have you found my birth mother?"
Xiao Chengyun, still angry, looked at the Regent who had run up to him.
The regent tightened his grip on the rattan cane, paused for a moment, and then said, "You're looking forward to it?"
"Of course, everyone else has a mother, but I don't. Before I could laugh, they said I was a monster."
"Ever since I recovered, they've started saying I was born from a stone and that I'm not your biological son at all."
Xiao Chengyun's eyes were filled with tears.
"Father, I want a mother, a gentle mother like Lin Chang'an."
"Father, I know my mother is dead and will never come back. Anyway, you're going to marry me off anyway. Could you please marry Lin Chang'an's mother so we can share a mother?"
The regent felt very uneasy; how could he not want his child to have a mother?
He had been searching for her for so many years, and now that he had finally found her, she was already someone else's wife.
“Chengyun, don’t say such things again. Ye Lanyin is the mistress of the Marquis’s mansion. How can Father break up someone else’s family? Father cannot agree to this.”
"But... Father, I want Mother. Lady Lin is not doing well. If she gets a divorce, she can marry you, right?"
"Are you looking down on her because she's a divorced woman? But you're no better off, are you? You're carrying a child of unknown origin..."
"Waaaaah... I'm never talking to you again."
After saying this, Xiao Chengyun ran back to his courtyard, crying.
No matter how much Butler Wang knocked on the door, he wouldn't open it.
The regent stood at the door, extended his hand to knock, and silently withdrew it.
Steward Wang anxiously sought instructions from the Regent.
"Let him have some peace and quiet."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Xiao Chengyun pressed his ear against the door, listening to the sounds outside. Only when the footsteps faded into the distance did he sit down in the chair.
He glanced at the words in her little hand, and there was no trace of the tearful look she had just had.
"Hmph, Father, my royal uncle said that only attacking your spirit will work on you!"
"It was worth spending the whole afternoon memorizing it!"
"Uncle's trick is still the most effective."
As he spoke, he took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped away all the words in his hand!
"From now on, I will mention Lady Lin every day!"
"Anyway, you said I liked it, so that's fine. Now that I've given you advance notice and have people from your household to vouch for me, let's see if you still dare to go back on your word!"
He clapped his hands, jumped onto the bed, and fell into a deep sleep.
…
The next day.
Upon hearing that Lin Shixuan had woken up, the Marquis of Zhenbei rushed to Yifeng Residence without even having time to take off his court robes after court.
Looking at his son, who had been unconscious for three days and three nights, the Marquis of Zhenbei's eyes instantly reddened.
He stretched out his sleeve and wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes.
