Ye Lanyin frowned slightly and slowly turned around.
The old lady noticed that Ye Lanyin was dressed in extremely luxurious attire and couldn't help but take a second look.
"Madam Lin, what is it?"
"Ye Lanyin, you raised such a good daughter, yet she caused her father to be flogged thirty times in court and is now unconscious. Do you have no conscience at all?"
"Since she's unconscious, why does Madam Lin still have the time to come here and cause trouble?"
Zou Shuang'er supported the old lady and looked at Ye Lanyin with displeasure.
"Ye Lanyin, your mother used to be your elder. Is this how you talk to your elder?"
Hua Xin couldn't help but spit.
"Pah! You shameless mistress, what a hypocrite, trying to play the saint and take your mother somewhere else."
"What right do you, a lowly servant, have to interrupt when your master is speaking?" Zou Shuang'er scolded angrily.
Ye Lanyin lowered her brows and pulled Hua Xin along, saying:
“Zou, you are not even as good as my maid in terms of status. Although Huaxin is a maid, I have long regarded her as a sister.”
"What right do you, a lowly concubine, have to interrupt when your master is speaking?"
Zou Shuang'er never expected that Ye Lanyin would openly insult her for the sake of a maid.
She desperately suppressed her anger.
The old lady looked at Ye Lanyin with disappointment.
"No matter what, she is Shixuan's biological mother. Your words about her really disappoint me."
Ye Lanyin said, "Old Madam Lin is really sentimental. You're disappointed in me, an outsider? Anyone who didn't know better would think I was your daughter."
The old lady didn't want to anger her.
She has important things to do today.
"Ye Lanyin, your daughter tore up the Guoxin letter and even caused my son to be beaten."
"Now that we have received this reward, shouldn't it belong to our Marquis's mansion?"
Ye Lanyin tossed her hair.
"Old Madam Lin is really shameless. By what right do you come here to ask me to return Wanwan's gifts to your Marquis's mansion?"
The old lady, leaning on her cane, could barely stand, and sweat poured down her forehead.
Thinking of the current predicament of the Marquis's mansion, she gritted her teeth.
"Ye Lanyin, at least she used to eat and live in my Marquis's mansion, and she called me grandmother."
“Even if this child isn’t my biological granddaughter, I consider her half a granddaughter. What’s wrong with a grandmother wanting some things that belong to her granddaughter?”
Hua Xin stood to the side, looking at the old lady's cannibalistic face, and almost vomited.
They say you'll know what kind of people your in-laws are after you've had one big argument with them.
This old lady is truly shameless.
“Madam Lin, this thing belongs to our young lady. If you consider yourself her half-grandmother, then you should give up your position as the legitimate daughter of the Marquis’s family to our young lady.”
Upon hearing this, Zou Shuang'er immediately retorted.
"Don't even think about it!"
Hua Xin laughed and said, "Greedy and selfish, that's exactly what shameless people like you are."
"You think our lady is easy to bully, huh?"
"Let's go, let's go cool off somewhere else."
Hua Xin grabbed a broom from the gate of the mansion and started sweeping towards Zou Shuang'er and Old Madam Lin.
The two were so frightened that they kept turning back.
"Ye Lanyin, is this how you educate your maid?"
"Your mother is your elder, how can you be so disrespectful?"
A fleeting, almost imperceptible look crossed Ye Lanyin's calm eyes as she stared blankly at Zou Shuang'er.
Once upon a time, she thought that she and Lin Dehong were respectful to each other and had a harmonious marriage.
The arrival of their daughter revealed the fate of everyone involved.
She then realized how foolish her choice had been.
Now you want to talk to her about filial piety?
“Zou Shuang’er, you keep talking about being filial, but Old Madam Lin is almost fainting from looking at you. Instead of taking your daughter-in-law back and serving her properly, you come here to try and build a relationship with an outsider like me.”
“If anyone is unfilial, it is you, the daughter-in-law, who brought people who take advantage of their age to cause a scene at the gate of our Ping'an Prefecture.”
"Is this the kind of daughter-in-law your Marquis's mansion has raised?"
"I think you've completely disgraced the Marquis of Zhenbei!"
"Hua Xin, let's go inside. Later, we'll tell the servants to put a dog in front of the door!"
Hua Xin smiled and nodded, "Yes, Madam."
Watching the two of them sway as they walked into Ping'an Mansion, Zou Shuang'er pouted at the old lady, "Mother, look at this Ye Lanyin?"
"I told you not to come here, but you wouldn't listen!"
She never imagined that after the Marquis of Zhenbei broke away from Ye Lanyin, the entire Marquis's mansion would fall into such a state of disrepair.
If she knew, she would never have entered the Marquis's mansion; she would rather be a concubine, beautiful as a flower every day.
These mundane chores should be left to Ye Lanyin to worry about!
She should wait until her son becomes the top scholar in the imperial examination before she can rightfully enter the Marquis's mansion.
What a blunder! It's too late to say anything now.
"It's all your fault! Dehong gave you so much silver back then, but you insisted on making a bet with her, spending a thousand taels to buy a piece of rag that you can't even wear!"
The thought that she dressed like a woman from a brothel on her son's birthday filled Old Madam Lin with anger.
Looking back now, she wasn't even as good as Ye Lanyin!
Ye Lanyin was at least dressed decently, and her every move suggested she was from a well-to-do family.
Zou Shuang'er, what a petty person.
It's not even worthy of being presented in a respectable manner!
"Mother, wasn't that Ye Lanyin's scheme to frame me? If it weren't for her, would I be in this situation?"
The two argued as they walked back to the Marquis's residence.
Hua Xin was cursing and swearing inside the house.
"This is really never going to end. We've already severed ties, but they're still trying to cling to us like they're being forced to."
Ye Lanyin smiled and tapped her forehead.
"Alright, don't be angry anymore. How's things going with the estate?"
"Madam, we were delayed a bit last time because we were at the Marquis's residence, but everything is ready now."
